SSO for Aug 31
« on: August 21, 2003, 08:17:48 PM »
In 1902, Britain and Japan signed a Naval Alliance. Two more agreements would follow over the next 20 years. British advisors helped develop Japanese Naval forces thoughout this period. By the mid-20's, Britain realized Japan's true intentions regarding China and broke relations with Japan. British military doctrine had been similar in many ways to the Samuri tradition and the IJN combined the two to form its Navy. In many ways, Japan pioneered Naval aviation.
April 5, 1942, Japan invades Ceylon. Sqn/ldr Len Burchill spotted the Japanese fleet and warned Koggala Air base of an impending invasion. Though shot down, he is refered to as the "saviour of Ceylon."
This becomes the basis for the Saviour of Ceylon.
This event is not time specific and is intended for enjoyment.
The above is not part of the rules

Bishop-Axis
Knight-Allies

Vehicles
Allies
4 CV-3 grouped tight, reserve must reamin within 25 miles of main group 1 CV launch per frame
Seafire II
Spitfire V and IX
Tempest,Typhoon (no more that 5 in agregate per frame and distributed , not in 1 group)
SBD or B5N

Axis
All CV capable Japanese Aircraft.
Nik2 and Ki-61 ( no more than 5 in agregate and not in 1 group.)

Terrain

Sicily, AAA set to nuisance level but kill if linger in ack. (Think Jordi used 0.005 setting)
Fight centered around Malta.
1 Base on Malta Bishop, 1 Knight for Hotpadding.

Special Rules
All Aircraft must launch from CV, They can hotpad at designated land bases.
Land bases do not come under attack until 3rd frame.
CV task forces will be kept close together, except reserve CV which is to be within 25 miles(not exact but reasonably near to 25).
Each Side CO will notify Setup CM in advance as to placement of CVs in advance of Frame start. (how far in advance is up to set up CM)
At T+15, the setor location of each CV group will be announced. No keypad info, just sector (12,2 i.e.)
When CV group crosses sector line, the new sector will be announced.

Destruction of Enemy CV -100 pts. Destruction of CV opens next CV for use. Reserve may be destroyed if found but is last to use.
Point bonus of 20 pts. for each Aircraft that successfully RTB on CV at endframe.
No penalty for RTB on land base.
The intent for restricted aircraft is that each squad that has 4 or more show up gets 1 and/or 1 for each group of 4 planes.
(suggest restricted A/C be assigned to pilots with low kill history. A restricted A/C that gets 5+ kills in a frame may be banned from further use.)

SBD/B5N is for torpedo capability for Allies and is by choice of Allied CO as to their use.Can use all SBD or all B5n or mix.

Area of Operations
Sectors around Isle of Malta on Sicily Terrain

Kevin,  to avoid getting Ghostdancer confused when doing the sidesplit for the Sunday Squad Ops, please edit your thread and delete its contents.

Thanks.
