Plane Choice Re-visited
« on: August 27, 2003, 06:12:38 PM »
there have been a bunch of posts in my 1.5 years here about what plane you fly and why.

every that i responded to i said 190-D9.

over the last few tours i have experimented with the C.205, BF 110g2, BF 109f4, FW 190-A8, BF 109g2, and last few weeks the BF 109g10.

i personally have decided to be a "Master" (laugh if you want) at something from each variant of LW planes.

BF 109f4 for base defence.

FW 190-A8 for "base suppression"

BF 109g10 for mid-range intercept.

BF 110g2 for CV planes and attack.

have you changed your outlook on any plane choice in the MA lately? if so why?

for me there are sooooo many advantages to the LW planes i'm glad to be in an LW squad :D the LaLa's in the MA have no chance of escaping a decently flown 109g10. it also eats up p38's :D (a first for me was a 3-1 in my g10 vs. 3 p38's and i killed them all  )

anyway what has changed your mind in "ride of choice" lately?

just a lame thought by yours truly
I don't know what to put here yet.

I'm letting the 109F4 and the 110G2 rest at the moment. I'm trying out the 190A5 for a while. :)

I started out trying German iron, then realized they have the worst nose low deflection gunnery view possible. I then transitioned to the P51D. Trying not to be a pony dweeb I went to a 3 plane rotation I use now:

Typhoon/Tempest If I forsee the average engagment happening 12k or lower (ie: the small furball maps).

P47d-30 If I forsee the average engagement happening 22k or Higher (ie: Pizza/Infinity).

F6f-5 For the situations I cannot generally forsee the average engagement alt or for the alts in between the aforementioned two.

I've been using the Yak 9U for base defence and suppression, and the P40E for Jabo (except on Pizza, where I've been using the Tiffie).

The Yak 9U should be perked because it makes me look almost good.

What's a pony dweeb?
Tempy and typhoon are as faster or faster at many alts... and have cannon.    Soooo.... you must be more of a dweeb if you fly them?

Ponies are more common.

Simple as that.

well i have barely posted on thsi forums..dont know if i even have..but read them every day.

Since i have only 1 month playing...and 1 or 2 months before then..im still sorta getting my feet wet. However i first was pushed to fly the P40E by a friend....its a nice ride....boom and zoom and turn with some planes for a bit..however if i see im not gaining angles on them i try to get some separations and reangage hopefully with the energy advantage on my side.  However..my most used aircraft so far is the Ki-61. I dont know why but it is not bad at turning..and can chew planes up with both its machine guns and cannons. Somtimes i get into situations where we are turning into each other and we barely pass by withought crashing into each other...where the other plane cant or decides not to shoot me and i barely get a split second to shoot..fire both cannons and machine guns...usually get their motor oil or radiator..then come back and try to finish the job.

I dont really have a set situation for eather of them (i should really) i just fly what i feel like..if i feel like BnZ a little...i fly P40....if i feel like tunring a little more...ad more power..here comes the Ki-61.  Also another reason for the ki-61 choice is i dont liek spits...and i am a better turner than BnZ pilot....not too much better but better.

My 2 cents

P.S.  for those who might say i fly those for the perks.....i dont....i could care less about the perk points.....no matter what ride im in...a kill is a kill to me...

I wasn't making any derogatory remarks toward pony drivers. I love the pony, it's a great ride. I simply stopped flying it for the same reason alot don't fly the Spitfire or La7. It has the stigma of being perceived as a crutch for the weak and/or inept. I did not want to marr my meager MA achievments by being type-cast as one who could accomplish them only with the aid of an overmodelled ride.

In summary, not only do I want to kick ass, but I want to look good doing it =) or try anyhow heh

Nothing's changed, plane of choice still is the Lightning.

Zazen

the stigma comes more from *how* one flys, rather than *what* one flys.  however, how one flys will often determine what one flys.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

Now thats what i call AIR DOMINANCE FIGHTER of the 20th century!!!:D

P-51D can do GV attacks but ONE 3 centimeter FLAK on the engine and it will kill your radiator and never make it back to the base.

BTW, P-38L should be on that category. P-38L can perform long rage escort (50% internal fuel with 2x 150 GAL external tanks), mid-range intercept,  base defence, GV attack, base suppression, furballing, and ESPECIALLY stallfighting!!!
