FINLAND - RUSSIA CONTINUATION WAR 1941 - 1944

Gulf of Finland in fall of 1943

In the August of 1943 the war in the Gulf of Finland had again
escalated into a  full-blown air war. Finnish coastal city of
Kotka was an important port for the german warships operating in
the Gulf of Finland and for the merchant ships which supplied
the finns.

Kotka faced the danger of total destruction against the over-
helming numerical and material advantage of the enemy. Lentolaivue
34 which was formed early 1943 and equipped with Bf109 G-2's started
operating from the newly built Kymi airbase from the beginning of
the month.

In the fall of 1943 Lentolaivue 34 took part in many aireal
battles over the Gulf of Finland while defending Kotka and the
finnish islands on the gulf.

During its time in Kymi 3rd flight of the Lentolaivue 34 scored
57 victories while losing one Messerschmitt and no pilots to enemy
action.

In the may of 1944 12 GBPAB (12th Guards Divebombing Regiment) of the Soviet Red Banner Baltic Fleet was withdrawn from the Gulf of Finland-front due to high crew losses.
Kotka was saved from the worst.

FIELDS SETUP:
* Germany (Rooks) fields are 39-53 in the Lapland and 75-76 in the
  Estonia. They have fleet 79, too.
* Finnish (Rooks) fields are 54-74 and they have fleet 80.
* Bishops (Russian) fields are fields 1 - 38 and fleets 77 and 78.

ROOKS/FINLAND AIRPLANES SETUP:
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-2 ("Mersu")
* Hurricane Mk I
* FM2 Wildcat (actually Brewster Model 239 "Bylly Waltteri")
* Junkers Ju88A-4 ("Junnu")
* Douglas C-47A (actually Douglas DC-2 "Hanssin Jukka")

ROOKS/GERMANY AIRPLANES SETUP:
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-4 ("Friedrich")
* Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 ("Gustav")
* Messerschmitt Bf 110 C-4b
* Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-2
* Focke Wulf Fw 190A-5 (Actually Fw 190A-3)
* Fockw Wulf Fw 190F
* Junkers Ju87D-3 ("Stuka")
* Junkers Ju88A-4
* Douglas C-47A (actually Junkers Ju-52 "Tante-Ju")

BISHOPS/RUSSIA AIRPLANES SETUP:
* Lavochin La-5FN ("Lavochka")
* Yak-9T ("Tankoviy")
* Hurricane  Mk II C (actually Mk II B)
* Curtiss P-40B ("Tomahawk")
* Curtiss P-40E ("Warhawk")
* Ilyushin Il-2 Type 3
* A-20G Havoc
* Boston III
* Douglas C-47A (actually Li-2 under licence)

VEHICLES:
All M's
Panzer IV
Tiger 1
Ostwind
LVT's (From Fleets)
PT Boats (From Fleets & Ports)

SPECS:
* Fuel Burn is set at 1.2
* Ack: 0.7 (CT Norm)
*Radar: Full Friendly, Height 500ft.
* DOWNTIMES:
Hangars: 20 minutes
Field Ack: 25 minutes
All other  structures: 30 minutes
* All other variables per CT norms

EXTRAORDINARY IN THIS MAP:
* All the airfields are historical. The little "Backwoods Airfields"
  don't have normally runaways and hangers. They have plane dugouts,
  but they  react like hangers and need the same amount of bombs to
  destroy (1250 kg or 2500 lb).

* Be worth to shoot trucks and little fuel barrels in enemy fields,
  too! For ex. in trucks are fuel, ammo, troops or even Vodka :-)

* When you are landing to "Backwoods Airfield" you can stop
  everywhere on the open sand-grass area in the centre of the field
  and middle of the trees. Be cautious with the trees when landing
  and taking off! :-)

* The Rearm pad is other side of the field opposite of the tower.

* All the Ports have airfields and all the setup planes are available
  from there, too.

* All the frontline fields are only for the fighters. Rear fields are
  for the bombers (and the fighters, too).

* There are 14 Tank Battle (TB) Villages near the frontline. Always
  when you see your GV's entry point arrow meets enemy's arrow, you
  can find TB Village from there. The owner of the TB Village is the
  nearest airfield. You can stop your tank safe in the middle of the
  village.

* You can see here and there bridges. They are only bombable targets
  and owned by the nearest airfields. You can not drive with GV's over
  the bridges.

SOME HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
* In Northern Finland (called Lapland), Norway and Estonia there were
  Germans, because Finland and Germany were allied in 1941 - 1944.

* The Continuation War ended in 4th of September 1944. Both FAF's fighter
  pilots and bomber crews made honourable work during those hard day's
  like all the Finnish 500 000 Soldiers on the front lines. All the
  Finnish Virtual Pilots like to thank Them all for their heroic deeds
  during whole Continuation War.

Jester,

I wrote the intro text. I just noticed that I put the "()" to the wrong place. :( If you can could you change the last paragraph to the following...

-------------------------

In the may of 1944 12 GBPAB (12th Guards Divebombing Regiment)
of the Soviet Red Banner Baltic Fleet was withdrawn from
the Gulf of Finland-front due to high crew losses.

-------------------------

...it would be great. :)

There are also couple of new skins:

I have edited LA5, Yak 9T and Boston III much more dirty (they didn't even had a toilet paper in those days... like we Finnish, too):D

Hptm. Horst Carganico's Bf 109 F4 has now right colours (green and light brown). It had originally a desert camo, but then it decided to Lapland... and Horst crashed with it to Russian coal factory. And walked back to Finland through forestes... ;)

Totally new skins are:

Later Horst had Bf 109 G6 with "Micky Mouse dragging he's shoes from Russia" picture on the fuselage. It's there in the Lapland now (Finnish have in this setup only Bf 109 G2, Brewster (FM2) and Hurricane I, but it's enough to us, I suppose)

I have skinned FW 190 A-5 to Lt Fritz König's FW 190 A-3 (Black 13). I hope you don't have unluck when fighting with it...:) This is the only FW we have in this setup

Also Bf 110 C4B has a new camouflage: It's Major Erich Groth's Bf 110 E-1 with shark teeths.

Russian have in addition to Boston III the A20G Havoc, too. It was used mainly in the Gulf of Finland letting down mines.

I hope you enjoy the next Finnish-Russian CT week! And remember the SURPRISE!:D

Jester,

I talked about it to Kanttori. :) The problem is that the weather is like that in Finland in the fall!! :) We have lots of lakes in land and as the temperature goes down the lakes still retain the warmth they have been collecting during the summer time. As the air gets colder the water in the lakes waporizes and rises up...

Well I'm no weather man so don't know enough about it. :)

But we do have thick clouds layers that reach very low and cover large areas.

Anyways, I'm sure as Kanttori sees this he'll answer for you. :)

As WMaker said: Finnish September is like this. Clouds are very low level and they are big! Sometimes the can be only 30 meters/yards (!) above the ground. This is typical in Winter time, too.

Pilots said its a "Thick" ("Tymä") weather, it was very dangerous when they tried to find airbases and when they landed. Many accidents happened because of those clouds!:(

hooray

honestly, this is one of the best ct setups there is. those ma dweebs would poop themselves over the attention to that detail that is in a map like this. some of the best fights ive ever had were in the clouds. finns. this one will be a blast.

You Finns neeed to make you own combat sim. With your attention to detail Im guessing it would have quite a following.

You know, some of those bombers you have in this setup are fast and shoot back, isn't that kind of unfair?
