So what is worth while out there? Have an old spare SupraMax 56ki. I keep losing my connection with it since I put it in to replace my other that worked great. :(

You'd be lookin at around $100 but the new U.S. Robotics V.92 external is very nice!!!!!!!!

You can go either USB model or com port model.

Got the com port model here and get around 37k to 42k where most out here in bad connect land are happy to get 22k to 24k.

Enternals seem to be less reliable maintaining a good fast connect then externals.

Hope this helps :)

It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

Just an observation-

USR external faxmodem (model 5686E) @ $99 USD works ok for Aces High.  I have purchased two in the last two months.  My connection improved significantly, but stability is sometimes questionable.  The same modem will not allow me to play DoD.

USR internal faxmodem (model 5699B) @ around $25 USD works ok for Aces High.  I have purchased three in the last two months.  Although the internal modem gives a slower connection speed, stability is not a problem.  The internal modem does allow me to play DoD.  Go figure.
