Author Topic: Indian Larry vs. Paul Yaffe, which one? (Read 752 times)

I can't make up my mind about which chopper I liked better. Larry's old school homage to Ed "Big Daddy" Roth was a dream from my childhood but Yaffe's chopper was modern cool to the nth degree. I don't know which one I would have voted for. Anyone else want to chime in on this one?

it was a sweet clasic chopper but to be honest Larry is perminantly stuck in 1968.

IMO Yaffe blew him away

I think it's retarded that they would even be entered in the same competition. They're completely different bikes. That said, definitely Paul Yaffe's, but he shoulda stuck with silver...it looked better before he painted it.

If they judged that on the west coast, Larry would'nt have had a chance in hell to win with his bike.

True, Larry's is much more East coast but the fact that he hand made almost all of the bike makes me want to respect it all that much more. Both bikes were sweet, there's nothing wrong with still making them like old school. Still, Yaffe's was sweet. I liked the red with the silver undercoat.

The red chopper from the previous show with the devil tail shifter was the best. Endless money and a big shop dont allows mean talent.

I liked Borgette's Blue chopper with the chrome nitrous bottles on the sides of the tank.

That show is pretty awesome though.

Arizona has some fine bike makers IMO

SOB hit it dead on. not even in the same class of bike.

I didn't much care for the Borgette bike, it was all right, nice bike and all but they just had racks and racks of parts went along and said "this motor, this tank, this fender" that's production line assembly not chopping. with the exception of the paint I bet you could have any one of their assemblers build the exact same bike with nothing more than a list of part #'s

I can't remember the name but IMO the guy from up north (Mass. I think, andretti red bike, long and low, nice flame job), should have won out Billy Lane. it was a sweet ride and should have won out over a bike that lights your bellybutton on fire (you'd think he'd have seen that coming, my first thought when he mentioned the exaust through the fender was "that's gonna be hot"). although it is amazing what Billy can do with little more than a stick and a rock.

not really, Borgette's frame is hollow aluminum with in which the oil flows through it..... not to mention the welding needed for it....hardley "off the shelf".

Billy's most impressive thing was that rear wheel without a hub, spokes or ANYTHING.....just an open hole...pretty amazing.

SOB, you have any idea how much $$$$ Discovery Channel paid them to build those bikes? That's the reason why they had them in the same competition. Had they not completed the bikes by the imposed deadline they would have pocketed nothing.

Anyone who dismisses a bike due to it's "school" of style is missing out on the whole point of this. Its a celebration of the chopper, both old and new. All of the builders, Jesse James, the Teutels, Billy, Larry, Yaffe, all of them have a very nice, very desirable product.

actually they said the 'oil tank frame' is borgettes trademark, on all their bikes. it is very cool though and a great idea. they make all their parts and all, and like I said before it's a cool bike. but I didn't see anything 'special' that would make it stand out from the other 700 bikes per year they crank out.

I'm sure Discovery gave them each a nice sum of cash, and I think both of them did a great job. My point was that those bikes were so completely different that they didn't merit a competition between the two. I wasn't dismissing either bike.
