Most people know the difference, even if they don't really care that much.
Heh. I find that hard to believe. The level of knowledge in Britain about history is atrocious. Same goes for the States by all accounts.
And when reportedly 7/10 Americans believe Saddam was involved in the 9/11 attacks, you've gotta wonder about how people perceive events that happened 2 years ago, nevermind 60.
I would say that most Americans believe they won WW2 pretty much singlehandedly with, at best, minor help from anyone else. I see echoes of that opinion on this board, among a community that has better than average knowledge of the conflict. Similarly, I would also say that 90% of British people have no clue of what happened on the Eastern front and how big a part the Russians played in WW2, for instance.
Should anyone expect much in the way of accuracy from Hollywood? No. But it's a shame that it becomes the sole source of information for a lot of people... the results are all too easy to see.
