I know we are all going to love this film:

I personally think Cruise would be better off cast as "Shorty" Keogh :)

hmm... this film may be liked by all!

If you like Cruise:  Think of it as an older version of Top Gun.

If you hate Cruise:  He dies.  (Historically)

Depends.  If they portray it as the hapless Brits being saved by Gung Ho Americans again (and this in one of their proudest moments) we'll hear a whole lot more about how WWII was not only an American story.

Any movie that Tom Cruise dies in is a good movie.

Remember this is Hollywood we are talking about.

They'll be casting British actors as the Germans and Yanks as the Brits.

I hear Jeremy Irons is to play Adolf Galland and Brian Blessed will be Herman Goring.

"Churchill's alive!???!?"

Hollywood ****wits.

It's Hollywood, not history. Most people know the difference, even if they don't really care that much.

Heh. I find that hard to believe. The level of knowledge in Britain about history is atrocious. Same goes for the States by all accounts.

And when reportedly 7/10 Americans believe Saddam was involved in the 9/11 attacks, you've gotta wonder about how people perceive events that happened 2 years ago, nevermind 60.

I would say that most Americans believe they won WW2 pretty much singlehandedly with, at best, minor help from anyone else. I see echoes of that opinion on this board, among a community that has better than average knowledge of the conflict. Similarly, I would also say that 90% of British people have no clue of what happened on the Eastern front and how big a part the Russians played in WW2, for instance.

Should anyone expect much in the way of accuracy from Hollywood? No. But it's a shame that it becomes the sole source of information for a lot of people... the results are all too easy to see.
