C47 version of ackstarring!
« on: November 24, 1999, 11:26:00 PM »
We bombed a field (2 ack and  1 barracks)
We then C47 dropped successfully.........

and some putz jumped on the runway and deployed about 120 red C47 drunks on the field..

I think this is toejamty move that should be eliminated from gameplay.

I don't see this any differently than sitting on the runway in a B17 and killing troops!

Comments anyone?

Yeah, that's as lame as sitting on the ground with a B17 and stafing (back before HtC disabled gunners on ground).  Definite gameplay issue. Perhaps disabling all A-to-G ordnance while wheels are in contact with the ground.  Please fix this, HtC.  Thanks.

I agree also. Being able to appear in a c47 on the ground and release troops to recapture is pretty low, and completely unrealistic. I could just see the 82nd standing around while a ju52 taxied out of the hangar and over to the tower to release troops, and not do anything.
This is a lame ackstarring way of saving a base, that in reality would have fallen and is worst then appearing in a B17 and shooting troops from the runway.....

Guys, little note, you cannot shoot with B-17 when on the runway, impossible.
Also destroying 2 barracks helps the problem significantly.
I've tested it, it doesn't let you take out troops if barracks are down.
For now, you can even strafe barracks buildings with fighter in a half pass, why not to do so when no acks and vultching all over the field?
Though, it is lame when there pops million C47s to lay their few million paras.. unlimited supply of troops, but on the other hand its again human error of leaving "defences" for the field up. (2 barrack buildings..)

Yes, it stinks.  It can be beaten.  It'll be fixed soon.

Bomb the barracks at the airfield and the C47 has no troops to drop!

Please remember this is a *beta still* and I'm sure the team at HTC will get it sorted out in the next release.

In the meantime I'm off to fly some more =)

I watched a scene unflold this evening at 3 where the Bishop forces had (5) plus B-17's (6) plus Fighters and (3) plus C-47's. I watched from the distroyed tower as the Knight planes were straffed by fighters and raked by Ackstaring B-17's. After watching many pilots die countless Vulching deaths then came the C-47's. I watched them drop there troops and I timed my appearance on the runway just as the had a headstart. I watched the field go to the Bishops and then right after that the field was retaken by the Kights as my troops went in. The ack came up shortly there after and many Bishops at low altitude died. On one hand in seemed a cheap defense but considering the way in which it was attacked I felt little shame. If the both barracks had been hit it would have resolved the issue. I am not sure it should be changed. I also checked my score and I did not get a field capture as I had to exit (ditch) or be killed by ackstars. I must be having a lapse.. I am agreeing with Fishu on an issue!

I am all for simulating a ground war, even if in a rudimentary fashion for now.  This isn't specifically a ground war simulator, but it must be admitted that the necessity of having paratroops (read: ground troops) storm the map room for base capture is at least a step in that direction.  If the sim goes even that far to simulate ground battles, I think it's more than a bit unlikely that the paratroops could take the base without meeting heavy oppostition.  It aint a buncha girl scouts keeping the base secure from invasion.  Wouldn't a couple  platoons of soldiers storm out the barracks and kill anyone who dares step foot in their base?  Yes, they would.  But since it is not a ground war sim, and realistic ground engagments aren't part of the picture, I think its an equitable compromise to conclude that bases shouldn't be able to be taken unless the barracks are down.

I propose that in order for a base to be captured, the defensive possibilites of the base must be destroyed.  This includes AAA and FLAK (as yet to be implemented) for the airborne threat, and the Barracks for the paratrooper/ground threat.  If the barracks are up when paratroops are released, they should be mowed down mercilessly.  In my opinion, the fact that the airborne base defenders have to launch their own paratroops to counter the enemy is a redundant and unnecessary step.  It should be no problem at all for HiTech and crew to code in a fix whereby the barracks must be destroyed before base capture is a persuasive possibility.

Thunder-

OTOH, I had a blast night feeding on those inviting buffs invading en masse. Sometimes you can protect the bases, sometimes you can only slow the inevitable. I could see what the Bishops were up to, but no way we had the numbers to stop it. I just took a fighter up and grazed on those fat cows circling the base.

One funny side note was watching the P51's scurrying to the protective skirts of their B17 momma's... now I've seen everything! B17's escorting P51's!
