AH Refresh Rates???
« on: September 25, 2003, 01:29:21 PM »
I had an Athlon 1500, 512 ram(pc2100), ATI 9700, Veiwsonics GS790 monitor (max refresh of 100 at 1024x768).

In AH, I was showing 80- 84 with occasions drops into the 50's or so in very busy very smokey areas.  If I lower refresh on video card to 75 - it locked at 75 with some drops in busy areas.

I upgrated to new NForce2 MB, Athlon 2500+, 512mb corsair twinax pc3200(2x256) dual channel, still have ATI 9700 and same monitor.  Turned off vsync to see what kind of numbers I would get with the new setup.  Was showing about 160-165 with some slow down to mid 90's in furball over burning base.

Sooooo, I thought vsync is not good - I would set video card to 100Hz vertical and "live" with 100fps. However, when I launched AH it is reporting 124fps - so i re-check refresh rate and it was set to 100 and used front panel on monitor to check monitor refresh rate and it was indeed reporting 100. But Ah is still showing 124 in game.  If I select no vsync it goes to about 160 and with vsync drops to 124.

I thought with vsync on and refresh set to 100 I should top out at 100fps - but it keeps showing 124.

How to I get a higher fps than the refresh rate with vcync enabled???

Any Thoughts???
