...And another one - 32 plane limit?
« on: September 20, 1999, 12:58:00 PM »
Just tried to find out if this one was answered -

will AH have the 32 plane limit WB has? 64?
no limit?

And another one
Bandwith 9k6? With internal vox
19k2 seem reasonable to me. I have no idea
what bandwith RW needs but I'm able to
share a single ISDN line for two seperate
sessions of WB and RW at the same time with
no loss.

Yes an no dancer, On detail plane information yes there is still a 32 limit. But you will see All the planes with in a visible dot range .

Band width is still cept as low as possible.

Let me see if I got it right:
We can see all the planes that are in the visible range, but only 32 of them will have icons?

One of those things that did bug me when I
was running SLs/EMCs on WB was that you
could not do large scale encounters because
it's simply too frustrating to the players
that either your con vanishes or you got
shot by a "ghost".

If there would be no icons - that wouldn't
be a problem but if you would not see them,
we'd had the WB system.

Confused,

I'll take a guess here and explain what I "think" the 32 plane limit will be.

All aircraft are visible, but only the 32 nearest aircraft will get high fidelity 3D positional updates.  The rest just get quick and dirty "close enough" positional updates in the 3D space around you.

I hope.

Hans.

ok any alpha testers care to comment on what a layman saw? if you have tested it that high in numbers?

or does this mean you can see um further away (that would be cool)

Dunno if this is the right forum for this, but is there any type of "bias" which is used to choose which of the 32 nearest planes get shown?

I've noticed multiple times in big furballs seeing enemy planes suddenly appear out of nowhere.  It would be nice to have a setting which allows the player to choose to show either any of the 32 planes closest, the 32 enemy planes closes or the 32 friendly closest.

Obviously seeing the closest friendlies isnt nearly as useful as having detailed info on the 32 closest enemy.
