Congrats CT players, Jester has resigned.
« on: September 28, 2003, 01:01:56 PM »
The saying goes, Don't look a gifted horse in the mouth. For those who don't understand what that means, it's try not to demand too much from something that is a gift.

The irrate bashing I have seen on Jesters map makes me want to call Doug and Dale and have them shut down the CT. As a result, Jester has decided to leave the CT staff.

Couple of points.[list=1]
  • The purpose of the Combat Theatre is to develop historical combat scenarios that took place during WWII.  Within that context, we look a gameplay, aircraft balancing, and the purpose of each and every scenario.
  • The Combat Theatre is not an extension of the Main Arena with an elite dog fighting club for those tired of 30 vs 30 encounters. It is an arena that takes a moment in time and places it on a 256x256 or 512x512 enclosure.
  • All CT staff have a say in the setups with over 15 years of combined arena experience.  Every setup goes through an approval process. When we try something different, we gain experience in setup configurations so we can do to make the CT a better place.
  • As CT players, the staff understands that people get passionate about gameplay issues, etc from the historical setups. We listen to your comments and make adjustments on the current map, or we take note for next time.
What is not fun is when there is an underlying feeling of unappreciation, distain, and ignorant retorts that make us feel that it not worth the abuse we take.  That's not cool, and it's not appreciated.

While the CT staff ponders our next setup, keep in mind that we try our best to serve you guys. This is your arena but it is also a volunteered job on our part. Please keep that in mind when you play or post here in the forums.

Well, sorry to see anyone give it up, and Jester deserves thanks for the time he volunteered. But criminy, the complaints about this setup have been mild compared to some others.

It's nearly impossible to craft a setup that doesn't elicit some form of whining from some quarter, and I would be hardpressed to name one now -- although I'm sure we've had a couple that were NEARLY whine-free.

Jester's a big boy.  He can take some heat.  If that's all it was, I'd say he was looking for an opportunity to step aside.

whatever your reasons, Jester.  But in my own humble opinion, complaints -- with a few exeptions -- have been measured and backed up with facts.

Fork:
Thanks for putting points 1-4 down in writing.  From where do they come?  I don't believe I've ever seen any official declaration of policy regarding what the CT is supposed to be.

to the CT staff for the abuse they take.

Honestly I totally agree with Fork here... It seems that the CT has just become a Historical Dueling Arena.  We can all nit pick about little things but when it boils down to it, we all meet here everyday, almost, to do battle with each other.  When I joined the CT almost a year ago, we actually tried to fly missions, now if you do your just a dweeb... or whatever... I think that is just a shame.  I for one am just tired of all the constint bashing on Channel 1.  It is almost become a norm in the CT.  Well, I have axis pilots that I like to talk to, I can hear it now.  Why don't you just squelch channel one or just private them... the point being I shouldn't have to...  We are all adults, we should be able to get along with out all that stuff.

Honestly I think the CT Staff does a pretty good job with the tools they have...  There will always be things in set ups that we don't agree with or don't want... Honestly there is more than one arena in this game other than the CT... You can use them too...

Jester, sorry to see you go.  Your a good person and I know you put a lot of time into this... I know I couldn't deal with what you CT staffers go though.. Hope to see you back in the saddle again...

Gee I hate to hear such.

Jester, thanks for all you did to make the CT fun for me personally.  If I ever offended you, let me apologize now and please accept same.  I sincerely hope you will reconsider, you only add with your work and presence.

It strikes me that war itself is hardly fair or perfectly balanced.  Why we would expect perfection of anything that resembled war is irrational.  I reckon it is a reflection of our spoiled, instant gratification cluture.  That's the pop psychology lecture for the day, I hope you enjoyed it.

I kind of like the fear of it not being perfect, you know, the apprehension of how things will play out adds to the whole thing for me.  But I have to say looking back and on the whole, most arenas are likely far more balanced than the war ever was, especially since so many folks tend to jump sides to try and keep numbers in a semblance of equity.

It's not the post on this board that did it. It was some individuals on both sides of the Allied / Axis fence Friday night. It was outrageous, uncalled for, and some of the worse dribble I've seen yet.

I hate he resigned, but who wants to put up with that kind of crap. We're lucky we got a CT , we keep bashing the guys who set it up, it won't last much longer.

Jester!

Sorry to see you go Jester,
and sorry for being one of the whiney-dorks.

I don't blame anyone for dumping a CM position, it's an ugly job and complaints outnumber praise 10:1.

Thanks for all that you have done, and I hope to see you flying more often now that you have a bit more time on your hands.

I just read this after I wrote to "Current setup" thread. As I say there: Variations refresh us!

Jester, it's great that you gave alternative setups and maps, the crew here are sometimes so conservative and calcified with their familiar circles they even don't notice it!

Don't care of them, we need always experimental persons, without us ( ;)  ) the mankind should be still in the stone age! :D

<> Jester. I personally have no qualms with the setup, its different.. and different is good.

I agree too that the attitude around the CT has just gotten plain rotten. I've noticed a decline in the relatively short time I was here, and its.. quite frankly, made me reconsider flying on Aces at all because I'm so tired of hearing the same things over and over.

I can't even imagine what its like to have that crap directed at you; for staying with it so long, Jester.. to the rest of the CT Staff that's still dealing with the crybaby whiners and a giant THANK YOU for doing the 'dirty work'.

Jester,
Even though I wasn't one of the people making the derogatory comments, you have my sincerest apologies that I didn't speak up publicly on your behalf. I don't believe for a second that you'd ever do anything that you didn't feel was right, no matter which side was benefitted.

I would never expect you to subject yourself again to the same abuse but please know you have my deepest respect.

Jester for your time and energy in CT

as this setup goes, just suggested a smaller map would make for better gameplay considering the low numbers in CT - I whine more about all the PTO setups :)

Yaknow .... after thinkin' bout it for awhile .... shame on you, Fork.

But never look a gifted horse in the eye. Oh wait .... err ... "never look a gift horse in the mouth." Which means since the CT is a gift ..... never look it in the mouth. Errrr .... "don't give no mouth to a gifted horse in the CT." Ummmm ..... "don't give no lip to the guy in the slip." No ... wait wait .... "never complain about an airplane." Ugh .... no ..... let's try ..... "never in the field of human endevour have so many owed so much to ...."

Ok ..ok ...

Jester has every right to quit .. or to stay. He's given it his best, I'm sure. But CT players have every right to disagree or complain if they feel something ain't right. So ... if you're saying they don't because Jester was a volunteer, Fork .... I don't agree. Of course, you're never gonna please everyone all the time.

If it's the way players make their complaints .... I doubt you'll even change that. I'd take it as a given that anyone who volunteers to manage the CT, given the insulation the CT staff often puts between itself and the players (at times ... depending on who .. on either end), should expect to deal with such complaints made in such ways on a regular basis. And threatening to call HT to get the whole works shut down doesn't impress or intimidate me in the slightest. Hell, it smacks of downright brattish "I'll take my ball and go home if you don't play the way I want you to." Is that really what you want to convey, given what you accuse the entire CT community of being?

Besides .... you should leave it to Jester to make such an announcement ... if he chooses to. This wouldn't be the first time you played the drama queen prematurely.

Ahem ... just `cause I thought it needed sayin'. Anyways ... back to the pity party thread. (No offense meant to Jester)
