Hello, people, I know I've been absent for a while, will be returning shortly, but I HAVE to tell you about the weekend I just had.

My sister-in-law and her husband got me in a spot in a Live Action Role Playing (LARP) adventure called Otherworld. They've done it before, and since you can do it only once.... they work there as staff.

I played with 5 friends of my brother-in-law, who I've never met before.... but our group RULED! 6 guys, aggressive, active, and VERY tough. We were an unmoveable force.... heh heh.

They have a HUGE 4H camp, like 350 acres, with a town, a gypsy camp, several houses, a few shops, the cabins we sleep in, a tavern, graveyard... etc. And you get to wander around completing your primary quest from your Duchess, and then fulfill side quests that you pick up along the way from other sources. All the while looking in the woods for treasure chests and watching out for monsters getting ready to gank you.

I was Druss, the Bard, and without patting myself on the back too hard..... I simply kicked tail. I had to defend a Gypsy of false charge, pulled verse out of my bellybutton to make an object move, had to write a verse for the Aventurere's Song, etc. Was WAY cool.

Our group, the Testosterone Lads of Elsewhich TOTALLY blew the treasure curve. Our Companion, a staff member who walks with you was DYING laughing at the way we were finding MASS money.

Wandering down a trail to get somewhere and the Paladin passes gas. We all stop to berate him. Oh, look, a chest!

The Mage falls over a rock, we bend to pick him up. Oh, look, a chest!

We found over 15 the first DAY! It was awesome.

The fights were GREAT, Padded swords and arrows. Staff members dressed in costume. One fight that must be relayed was we were on yet another journey, fought 3 Wolven, a bandit clan, and killed them with no losses. On the road slightly below us we see 3 MORE Wolven, taunt back and forth and kill them, again with no losses. RIGHT after we finish them off, we are attacked by 4 Skeevers, and they ALMOST finished us, lol.

You people HAVE to look into this for next year and get your applications in. The money is WELL SPENT, you are billeted, fed, and WOWED by a VERY intricate story.

My word.

We used to have people who did this stuff at university, I never imagined people did it in the real world. I thought they would just graduate and sober up. Every sunday morning, without fail, my crew would row past them on the riverbank as they practised their swordfighting. They called themselves 'Treasure Trappers' - a term that seemed to become an equivalent to geek. And most of them studied physics.

I spent all of my weekend on a post math exam stress releasing binge in which I roleplayed belligerence and debauchery, found treasure and spent it on wenches with whom I roleplayed love in order to get under their padded underwear.

And wear robes and make-up if I remember correctly. Which is unfair, because you could easily confuse them with the highly original goth types, casually rebelling against conformity around campus.

That is terrible.Here the Goth's take the good time and effort to refine a look that denotes their seperation from mainstream society, and along comes Frodo with his band of merry men to screw it up.
