The 9600XT is due out this month. Its supposed to ship with a free copy of (or a coupon for) HL2, full version for $199.00 .

I've heard that the Nvidia 5200 FX is really a crappy card..... not tested it myslef tho.

It's a hell of a lot better than the Nvidia GF 2 I have integrated into my Motherboard. ANd even then, I would rather push an Nvidia than drive a Radeon.. Or something like that...

Anyhow if you want a better card then get a Geforce FX5600 for $114 from newegg.com.  And who the hell needs bundled games when I am buying it for Aces High? Since I found Aces High I have purchased no other game.

Half Life can kiss my )*(.  


Still the best bang for the buck, AND Outperforms the rest. <-- Tested on Customers computers.

Nvidia is not a good option at this point when it comes to future games.

It will choke pretty much on any game that has Direct X 9 features(pixel shading),and the games coming out will soon.

Soon it won't be just half-life.

Right now I am running a Ge4 MX440 and I was really please with it over my Voodoo 4 32MB PCI card I was running however with my system I run about 65 FPS until a dogfight or lots of bombers smoke and so on then it drops to about 15 to 16.. sometimes in a GV at a smoking field I drop to about 6 or 7..  Myself I'm looking for something thats not going to drop off in smoke or anything with my system...  as we are all sure of the 6 or 7 FPS won't be enough for AH2...

BTW. I run at 1600X1200 so I can see parts fall off   :D        

Sys specs

256 PC2700
1.7 P4
Maxtor 7200 60GB ATA-133
on-board sound (works great though)  

P.S. I am soon to upgrade ram to about 768 and maybe put a 2.4 CPU in it..   but as of right now I need a card thats going to rock yet somewhat less weight on the pocketbook

I have looked into this issue with FX cards and find that NVidia created a feature for the card that programmers are not utilizing. It appears to me that NVidia has left taken a step that would be a great leap in development should all the gamers choose to go the way Nvidia would like them to.  This topic has been covered by previous history in the Video Market so I don't need to say much more.

The FX Cards appear to suck for conventional game development. But the GF2/3/4 TI series are still less that $200 and don't include games I don't want and won't play.

The only time I play any thing other than Aces High is when I cannot connect to the 'net, or HTC's Servers are down.

In general, I would avoid the current NVidia FX line.  ATI is on a roll.

The 9600Pro is about the best bang for the buck you can get.  In several cases it will just outperform an NVidia 5900U.  But, you might want to wait for the 9600XT.  I understand it is replacing the 9600Pro for the same price, but is quite a bit faster, and runs much cooler.
Not to mention it will overclock to unreal speeds.

Amen, Skuzzy...

Not that you need seconding, but two recent items reinforced my belief in ATI:

1 - nVidia lied about the performance of the FX line when it came out and independent testers soon showed their fallacy.  nVidia is a great company and is making amends, but it was a bonehead move.

2 - Microsoft just selected ATI for its next gen Xbox console.  Not that M$ is right, just pointing it out.

Don't get me wrong, nVidia is not inherently bad.  ATI is just better at video cards at this moment in time.  nVidia still makes a HELLA cool chipset for AMD chips though.

Just ordered a Connect3D radeon 9600XP card, when i find the money in our budget to test it on a system ill post some thoughts on it.

Have:
video card (radeon9600XP in the mail)
cpu cooler and paste (coolermaster)
8x cd drive :rofl
floppy (old piece o' junk)
HD (20gb seagate)
 
Still need:
case
cpu
ram
mobo

I agree with skuzzy. The 9600XT should be available in November, should be priced about $200 and be faster than the 9700 pro. Nice card to wait for.

There was an earlier thread talking about this. It was brought up that since Ati said the 9600XT would be faster than the 9700Pro in all cases. That didn't sound right to me so I emailed Ati. This is what they had to say.
