>>>slow sea planes would just be another set of targets for us to shoot down. and, the CV ack in AH would rip 'em to shreds.

of course, HTC could aways DEDUCT perkies for shooting down the slower sea planes...that would give 'em half a chance of survival.  :p

There's lots of things that don't see the light of day (hardly) in the MA that have a place in scenarios and the CT, T. The F4F ... the P40B. Do you think those were modeled to cater to the MAsses? ;) No they were modeled to offer a more complete set for the players who enjoy scenarios and historical setups. Get it? No? Here .... try to hop on this train of thought and not fall off.

"Tour of Duty" is HiTech's proposal for a more immersive enviroment for his customer base. Can you say immersive? Yes? Good .... I knew you could. It supposedly will feature AI aircraft filling in gaps for a 24/7 war. The players will create actual "avatars" (player-characters?) that they will attempt to keep alive and well throughout the war ... hopefully gaining some glory and having fun doing it in the process. Can you say avatar? Yes? Good .... I knew you could.

Back to immersion. The MA, while fun in itself .... is not designed for total immersion. Immersion is hampered by Bishop ponies and Rook ponies dogfighting over the landscape of an alien world.

Now immersion isn't everyone's cup-o-tea ... that's understood. But apparently HT thinks that it appeals to enough of his customer base to warrant his expense and labor developing TOD.

And what does this have to do with seaplanes and such? Well hell, T ... having them included is another level of immersion. Even if nothing but AI pilots fly the damned things, escorting them on a "fake" rescue mission ... or even a "real" one ( or even being rescued by them) is more ... immersive.

Now ... if ... for some reason ... HT decides to model Catalinas or any other type of seaplane..... I mean .. if he think's it's worth his while to add to the immersive qualities of TOD .... you can rest assured that his "waste of time and resources" probably won't result in your or anyone else in the MA being forced to fly a seaplane occasionally. And I'm sure if you see some crazy dude up one in the MA that it'll just chap your hide ... while you line it up. :D

Yeah .. I know ... you don't get it. That's ok. :rofl

Something tells me you don't quite understand the nature of these forums or threads in general, mist.

1: Forum closed?

2: Theads deviate all the time. At least a discussion of the merits of adding seaplanes in general to the planeset is related. You haven't seen a real hijacking yet, I take? :D

3: And if you think others are deviating from your stated objective, the best way to try to get it back on course certainly can't be making a statement that you are bowing out of the thread. (Which I assume was your intent)

:)

Now this thread is starting to get mighty interesting...:D

Wing tips rounded, spinner's bigger.
Unbraced tailplane ends it's figure.
One-O-nine F is it's name-
F is for futile, not for fame."

someone bring up the subject of HO's so we can REALLY get this party started...  :D   j/k

Arlo,
I understand your point regarding immersion and HTC's vision for AH2 TOD, but you don't have to be a condescending j3rk-0ff about it.  :p

You've misquoted me, Arlo.  I never said, "we don't need targuts...."  Nor, did I imply any such thing.  I simply stated that these sea planes would obviously be easy targets (in the MA).

If you feel immersed in an aura of historical accuracy by being cannon fodder; then, by all means, fly the damn thing.  But, don't change my comments for your own amusement, Arlo.

Do I think the sea plane could add value in other arenas?  Sure.

My bad ....

"slow sea planes ... derrrrr .... would just be ...... derrrrr ... another set of targets ..... derrrrr ..... for us to shoot down ..... derrrrr. and, the CV ack ...... derrrrrr ........ in AH  ...... derrrrr ...... would rip 'em to shreds ....... derrrrrrr."

Which is the same `ol tardument offered up whenever anyone suggests a plane that isn't as uber as the top of the MA totem pole being an interesting addition. Some models don't need to surpass the 262 to be a valuable addition to the game. Not that the CAT is on the top of my personal list .... it's just the MA tunnel-vision tardliness of your argument that was kind of an irresistable ..... "targut .... derrrr." But if you wanna try to make it fit within the TOD discussion of what would or wouldn't be cool to see someday... feel free to try. Just please try harder.  ;)

No, let's just agree that I made a simple observation from the MA p.o.v. because MA is all I'm interested in, and you're irritated because your TOD arenas are still "2 weeks" away. ;)  Don't worry, though...soon you will be able to have fun in your "immersion" style of play.  Until then, you're stuck with the rest of us.   ;)
