Don't worry pirado, I can't remember anyone from HTC announcing an all seeing radar and target lock for AH. And quite frankly I can't imagine them putting it in the game: They know better than that..errr..right guys?

Its not a radar per se,  It only tells you how many of an nme is in a sector. It will not tell you how high or where.  So imagine a grid square and in the top left corner you seee 7 red and 2 green squares.  You know that somewhere in there is 7 nme and 2 friendlies.

Likewise, consider them reports over the radio of enemy planes sighted in the area.

It doesn't give any sort of useful combat information like altitude, heading or plane type.

Merely that ground spotters or friendly aircraft have radioed that there are cons in the area.  Don't try to tell me that in Real Life pilots ONLY had an idea as to where the enemy was when they took off and then never had any sort of update.

First, the sector indicators only let you know if an enemy is within a 525 square mile area.

Second, I think this "radar" can be knocked out which would permit a surprise attack on a base or other target.

Third, how realistic do you want it?  You want to fly for weeks without seeing an enemy plane?  That would be realistic.  Most of us want to engage the enemy and having a clue where them might be sure is helpful.  Moreover, even with the sector indicators, it has been my experience that it is hard to find the enemy.  Much of the radio chatter in the alpha relates to players trying to find each other.

Fourth, I have no doubt that HTC can toggle the sector indicators on an off if they are determined to detract from game play rather than add to it (At this point I personally think they enhance gameplay).

Think of the sector counters as intelligence reports from spotters, troops, and underground agents.  If the update rate is slow, the information is only a general indicator of enemy strength and movements, nothing like inflight radar.

Sector counters are not an evil thing. They don't give away ALT, location or type of AC and thus only serve as an indicator to find a good furball/concetration of enemies. Kinda like the arrows in WB.

Not sure where you got the idea I want night fighting.
We tried it for a while . It only lasting about 10 mins out of 2 hours and almost everyone hated it. The only way i can see it's use is in a senerio some time.

Whew..glad to hear you don't rule out nightfighting all together. Wouldn't wanna miss the "Over the Kammhuber Line"- scenario.

Does your system (theoretically) permitt radar being active for planes in flight?

People didn't like night 3 @$%@$# years
ago because the @#$# crappy 2-D engine couldn't handle it.

It could be done if it was done right
and on a 3-D only graphics engine.

Moonlit night time is actually quite bright,
and you can see cities, searchlights
and tracers all the better.

One more feather in cap to rise above
the din of the 5 other online flight
sims.

If night makes an appearance I can see an upsurge in the sale of monitors as people burn out theirs by turning the gamma up to maximum
