Cure for boredom?
« on: May 17, 2001, 06:18:00 AM »
Hello all,

Any ideas how I get back my motivation/fun factor in AH?

I used to fly for score - that gave me some goals and satisfaction when ranked high (not too often but anyway). Then I found score system sucks (mostly because of death means nothing).

I used to fly with squad mates - that has deteriorated with account cansellations, lack of interest etc...

I used to fly for great airial combats - have not found many nice ones in ages excluding few exeptions.

I used to 'work' for field captures - not so anymore...lost interest on that i guess.

Even the scenarios seem faint and purposeless (HS was neat  .

I surely like AH but sort of lost the fun factor.

Any ideas to find it again?

Hi janjan!

Do as I did, switch to totally new plane. It prevented me for quitting and now I really like this again. Also try switching country / squadron.
And if all this doesn't help, think what you can get with that 30$ / month. That amount of beer doesn't last even one saturday!

Hope you get over it and jump your fighter again

<S>! cu up there

Try switching roles.  Do something you don't normally do.  Grab a zeke and go furball till you puke.  Forget about score.

Try a tour in a very challenging plane.  I'm doing a tour in an F6F5 Hellcat.  I'm doing pretty bad, but I'm still having fun.

Try spending some time tanking, gunning on the CV's, driving PT boats.  Or grab a Jug and become a tank buster.  Whatever turns your crank.

Finally, there is one thing I can ALWAYS do to make the game fun again.  I teach others.  Yes, helping a newby take his first flights is extremely rewarding.  There is nothing that will get you excited about this game like watching a newby get pumped about his first kills.  It reminds you just how FREAKIN COOL it is that I can shoot down a plane that is piloted by another guy sitting in front of his computer on the other side of the world.  It takes me back to basics and reminds me why I do this.  When you work with newbies, everything is new and exciting to them, and you start to remember that feeling.  It makes things new and fresh again when I teach.  Drop into the training arena and give that a shot, I guarantee you'll learn lots and get an attitude adjustment to boot.

Suggested plane switch does help a bit but I've always flied almost all planes. Yes, as in JG, LW planes most but p51, p47, p38 & Jak all in good use.

I'm kind of stucked with JG53, so don't up for changing that!

Also done a lot of jabo...

Tried furballin in the beginning of this tour as well   - caused trauma of too many deaths but it is great fun sometimes!

Teaching others...uuh...not sure I can fly enough for that...do trainers get free account? ;-)

Well, thanks for your replies and more are welcomed

janjan,

You don't have to be an expert to help a newby out.  You just need to be patient and be able to explain the basics.  Give it a try.  If you do it for a while and enjoy training, then email me about the possibility of becoming an official trainer. Give it a shot, you have nothing to lose.

BTW, the furballing causing trauma of too many deaths is just the point.  You have to do it until you forget about the silly score and just have fun.    Heck last week I defended a base for hours with just a couple others.  I got smacked down a lot, but I got three goons and a couple others, and kept that field away from enemy hands for hours.    Ignore the score, just have fun.

The other thing is to walk away for a week or so.  Consider it as taking leave and going on R&R.  Play some non-flight sim, or what have you.

Leph - the "Horatio at the bridge" thing can be fun, but I find it gets old quickly.  I'd found myself doing it all too often a few weeks ago, but it was hard to ignore the call when few others cared about defence.

Cheers

Maybe I should take a break too and R&R for a week or two.Pretty much lost motivation in AH and not enjoying it too much lately.Maybe it is the slowly approaching spring/summer up here in Finland/Arctic Circle
