AH Running on Linux -- Success
« on: October 09, 2003, 07:18:31 PM »
Greetings Gents.

I have compiled a free version of winex3 and have successfully installed and run Aces High with great increases of performance. With the same hardware as my tweaked WinXp I now get a top refresh rate of 120. I haven't tested full-speed gameplay yet as I have only one problem that I was hoping someone else might have encountered before.

I have no friggen Joystick (Saitek X45) in Linux. at this time. Is there anyone here that has or has conquered a similar problem?

Wow How did you do this!!!!

The only one thing that makes me continue to use Win XP is AH?
What Linux you have?
How did you solved DirectX - it has software (Microsoft) for Linux?

I had run AH on linux before, but the latest ATI drivers seem not to like WineX. I'm trying to fix it, but my graphics are garbled under WineX for now :(

As far as the joystick, I actually contributed the WineX code that does the POV HAT support for joysticks, etc.
Try to get it working for linux apps first. Try loading the evdev module :
"modprobe evdev" and see if tuxracer (for example) can see the joystick, then try it with AH.
If you still have problems, email me : conway@inimage.com, I'll try to help you out :)

Very Very interested here!!!

Basically I have Red-Hat 9 with the Ximian Desktop, and the Stock Nvidia unified driver from Nvidia.

Red Hat doesn't like to play nice with the XF86Config file, so I made a few configs for nvidia boards and have them Up for Grabs (link) .

Th4e next thing is to buy a winex subscription from http://www.transgaming.com and install. If you get stuck let me know and I will help you through it here on the board.

Then, maybe one day we can all be free of the scourge that is MS.

One little dinky problem though. I don't think AH2 runs on it yet, but then again, it's been awhile since I tested the beta version.

Come up with any conclusion? my problem is im running 64bit Gentoo and AH2 is only 32bit, doesnt look good, and probably not worth dual booting for. I cant believe a game like this wouldnt be linux friendly.
