Planes in Tank Town :(
« on: October 13, 2003, 03:29:37 PM »
Why do some people fly a plane into Tank Town?  Is it because
they can't drive a tank or is it because they want to mess with
the people that can?
HT why don't you make a "force field" around tank town so if
a plane crosses it, they blow up and the whole arena sees a
"Shame on you for trying" message.:D  Yeah that would be funny.

BTW I took a 51D there today to try and run off a 38, and the
38 got my wing. Looked like a HO, but that could just be my
prospective.

There's lots of reasons they do it.

I have heard (from the flyers):

Kill all the vhs so the players leave tank town and start playing their way (pathetic).

Kill enemy VHs to allow their players to get into spawn camping position (pathetic).

From the tankers:

They can't get kills any other way, so they club baby seals in tank town (pathetic).

They are trying to help their teammates (less pathetic).

So, as you can see, 3 out of four pilots who up planes to tank town are pathetic.

What you tankers need is a special place to play tanks where no one will interfere with your fun.

May I suggest the DA until that new arena is made for yas?

Enjoy!

I got lost on the way to fighter town and ended up in tank town. Oh wait, vehicles are the only units in the game given their own area....my mistake.

When fighters get an exclusive fighter town and bombers get an exclusive bomber town maybe then vehicles can say they should have their own.

Actually, they're NOT given their own area, manx.  Planes and stuff go there, you know.  That's the whole point of the thread.

Perhaps you just missed it.

Tell me, which part of which map has the big isolated place where the  fields are surrounded by high mountains and the only choices available from the hangars are fighters?

And there'd be one of those for bombers too, right?

I must have missed them. What maps are they on and where on those maps are they?

SCDR - a couple things:

1.) That 38 was me - and yes it was a ho. I also pickled my bomb by accident because I am slow today.

2.) I had squad mates in TT who want support and a FORWARD AIR OBSERVER which I happen to be very good at.
     - As it goes - he with the best SA - wins the war.

3.) Aircraft do not by themselves take down tanks - atleast in what I fly they don't. I use 1 rocket per tank and then move on. If I happen to get the kill, happy days - but my job is in support of the GV's mission - not freelancing.

4.) Would someone show me an example in history where a ground force has been successful against another equally equipped ground force where they were SUCCESSFUL and DECISIVE - key words here gents - WITHOUT airsupport.
       - I am not talking about a turrent match.

When you can answer those questions - then we can talk.

I took a P47 to tank town twice, each sortie gained me over 20 perks.  I was using only rockets and 50cals.

I understand both sides of the story about tank town.  I personally really enjoy flying to tank town in a plane.  It is not due to the fact I can't get kills in air to air combat either.

1)  Being a FAO is one of the more emersive parts of the game in my opinion.  It's cooler on a base assault, but tank town with its many buildings and places to hide really make it cool to communicate back and forth with the guys on the ground that are searching out targets.

2)  I like the fact that there are buildings galore to attack tanks on as well, I wish there were cities out in the MA that were as detailed as Tank Town.  It makes it more realistic in my opinion.

3)  During the day I head to TT when I'm working at home on work related material, cruising the web or stock trading.  It gives me time to do both.  I just up the plane and Alt-Tab out for 15 mins or so and work.

If people get upset about me being there when I show up, I usually just leave and let them fight the way they want to fight.  I don't play this game to make anyone mad and I understand if they prefer to fight GV to GV only I try to let them be.

I agree though that having air cover and spotters makes the game more emersive.  Also since it takes quite some time to get to TT in an aircraft it does limit planes galore and if you up a flak or M-16 and take the plane out, its unlikely they will be back for some time.  That's what those units are in the game for anyhow.

Just my 2 cents.  If you see me in a Mossie in Tank Town and don't want me bothering you, just give me a holar and I'll leave you alone.  Otherwise park and stay still so I can shoot you easier.

The idea behind surrounding Tank Town with high mountains was to LIMIT air access...not totally do away with it.

I always enjoyed the tank battles on the middle island in NDISLES. I wanted to see what it was like to have a big tank battle without some banana trying to drop a bomb on my head every 2 or 3 minutes.

BTW, blowing up the buildings in TT is not supposed to accomplish anything (accept wasting sometime). I guess I need to check and insure that no one is getting points for 'em :).

Approximate time to climb to alt to get to Tank Town (20,000feet/2,500 feet per minute)
=8 minutes

Approximate time to cover 10 miles to get to the center of tank town in 500mph dive= 1.2 minutes

Time required to shoot 10 tanks on their engine decks
=10 minutes

Total time:19.2 minutes
20 perks/19.2 minutes=1.04 perks per minute

Tank town is a gold mine.
