A Question.....

Which is a bigger waste of time.....

Shooting Chutes  or  Bailing out?

Ride the wreck down and its a moot point.

All the valid reasons to shoot chutes:

[list=1]
  • The red icon is distracting when in periferal vision. It also apears on radar above 500'.
  • Guy hanging in chute can "check six" his buddies
  • Guy hanging in chute opened too early and, as Toad pointed out, wants help getting back into action sooner.
  • Doppler sound effects in AH are too good not to treat guy in chute to them by zooming in full trottle and guns blazing. You can only hope he has Mitzu's sounds.
  • Chutes explode. Explosions are cool.
  • Whining about chute shooting never gets old.

Valid reasons NOT to shoot chutes:

1: Conserving ammo or winchester.
2: Busy with other enemy planes in the area.
3: The guy is dangling at 15k or higher.

Chivalry? Not on my list. :D

p.s. The missing reason to shoot chutes is to pork the other player's survival score mod. ;)

If the guy pisses me off ------ attempts a HO or runs forever and I somehow finally take him out, then it somehow gives me great pleasure to shoot him twice i.e. once in the plane and once in his chute on the way down......:D :D

Maybe I am wrong, but it has been my understanding that if you bail, you get an entry in your score as a "bail" and if you fail to bail out properly (or run afoul a bullet) you get an entry in your score as a "death"

A "bail" you retain some percentage of your perks (I think it was 1/2 I don't remeber)

A "death" you lose all perks for that ride

I have even go so far as to let some guys ditch if they were an especially fun opponent, but mostly I prefer to hand out "deaths" - especially in some circumstances outlined above.

If you are gonna hang around in a chute around me you better deserve it.  I expect no more or less in return.

Good example: I once chased a pony that had porked fuel at a base.  2 sectors he went out to sea on the deck with me pursuing in a p47 - once he thought he was far enough out to avoid proxy kill he decided to bail.  I shot his chute and he immediately whined about it "who was the chute shooter" on channel 1.  I said nothing and rtb'd with the feeling that chase was probably more worthwhile than others that day.

Guess no one told you. That isn't a Mae West hanging on your chest when you bail. It's a big bag full of high explosive. Hence, the pretty colors when it is shot :).

Chute Shooting is the Sport of Kings!!! 'Nuff said :).

Shirley sharp shoots chutes with surety and shouts shrilly at the shrinking sheep as she sheds her shrinking speed for sky.

Works great. Once you start killing chutes with rockets, you'll never go back to bullets.

Ten chutes shot by Sam the chute shooter.

Personally...

I'm horrified that one would actually shoot a pilot in a chute.

I couldn't do it and live with myself..

It's morally pathetic.

I'd prolly bust into tears if I shot one, and have that sick feeling in my stomach for days..

Then depression would set in, I'd stop eating and spend all my time in bed crying..

Personal hygene would go..

Health would deteriorate..

And I'd probably end up sucking on a gun barrel..

So my solution is to try to pop them before they pull the cord..

Much more rewarding..

I completely agree.  Except... "worst" isn't exactly the word I'd use.
