sure hope everyone knows thats it not the final product. Alot of things dont work yet but I had a blast with it. I love the ground on the beta. Was wondering if the new flight model was in it though. Im guessing not casue it felt like the old one. (wich isnt bad cause I liked it.) Had a harder time taking off though. ALL said I cant wait until the final product be released. Nice having something though. Love the new hangars and airports. Sun looks great too. Think Ill like the new tracers when their finished. Looks good though, I had fun with it.

Guess Im kindof juging it inaway when I shouldnt be yet. First beta Ive tried.  My Frames only droped 7fps.
I had AH1 locked on 60 and got between 54 and 50 with the beta.
<> HTC, Cant wait for the release date of the final product. Hope that to many people dont judge it by the beta. Them new farm places already got me hooked to AH2

beta: /bay´t@/, /be´t@/, /bee´t@/, n.

1. Mostly working, but still under test; usu. used with “in”: in beta. In the Real World, hardware or software systems often go through two stages of release testing: Alpha (in-house) and Beta (out- house?). Beta releases are generally made to a group of lucky (or unlucky) trusted customers.

2. Anything that is new and experimental. “His girlfriend is in beta” means that he is still testing for compatibility and reserving judgment.

3. Flaky; dubious; suspect (since beta software is notoriously buggy).

Historical note: More formally, to beta-test is to test a pre-release (potentially unreliable) version of a piece of software by making it available to selected (or self-selected) customers and users. This term derives from early 1960s terminology for product cycle checkpoints, first used at IBM but later standard throughout the industry. Alpha Test was the unit, module, or component test phase; Beta Test was initial system test. These themselves came from earlier A- and B-tests for hardware. The A-test was a feasibility and manufacturability evaluation done before any commitment to design and development. The B-test was a demonstration that the engineering model functioned as specified. The C-test (corresponding to today's beta) was the B-test performed on early samples of the production design, and the D test was the C test repeated after the model had been in production a while.

Calling this an open beta may have been a bit misleading if you compare it to beta tests of other online games like Day of Defeat or the like. Those games are usually quite playable when released as beta. However you must consider that Hitechcreations is a small company with very limited resources/staff to do alpha testing (in-house testing). Considering that the AH community is a lot more close knit than most other game communities with good communication with the developers, this release should be considered an open alpha release. Perhaps if it had been named so there would have been less misunderstanding ... then again many people here probably didn't know what alpha or beta testing is in the first place. We should help HTC flush out the bugs rather than bicker about how unfinished it is. The former will help get our game faster, the latter will not. Just a thought.

Beta tests lasting for years are not uncommon, and often cover a VERY long period of development.  From finishing the engine, to minor gameplay tweaks.

Many recent games have used the final part of thier beta test as a free preview.  I suspect this is part of the cause of people thinking that beta means 'Free game to play'.  It doesn't.

A beta test is a test.  It's not a free game.  It's a period where the devs take partially working alpha code, let others test it, so they can fix the many problems that are difficult to find without a wider test group.  3d video issues are one of the toughest types of problems to deal with, since there is such a wide range of possible configurations, most of which are broken in some way.

You're right, hitech. As a matter of fact, I think there's a global infestation growing day-by-day.

Perhaps you should consider a system-based closed beta for the next few iterations?

Even though I get poor frame rates - this is what I expected from a beta. I like what I see so far and am very happy for this major update.

Looks like I'll enjoy AH11

OMG Hitech!!!  You don't know how many times I've wanted to say that to the mass of "clueless dolts" that are invited to test software.  I mean seriously, I develop software, give it to a client and tell them to test it.  The responses from that testing are usually: "Gee, do you think you could put that button 2 pixels to the left?" or "Boy, this would really work better if you could just make this change."

I thought I made myself clear when I told the client to "Please test the functionality of this software as it stands now.  I'm looking for any major flaws in the logic, or system crashing type events that I may have missed in my dev environment."  Obviously people are just as clueless testing games as they are testing enterprise software.

WTG guys.  I know what it's like working a small team with HUGE expectations.  Keep up the great work!

I agree. As a matter of fact, it's probably the way it should have gone from the beginning. ;)

I jus tlove the title. I had decided not to try the beta at this time because of what was said. That it wasn't the online game yet but just testing. I haven't taken much time to play these days. So I'll wait for awhile. But from a couple of reviews, it's looking good. So I cann't wait for it to finally come out as the game we're looking forward to.

I was able to play this game when it was first released as an open beta. It has come a long ways.
