Time for a break?
« on: October 21, 2003, 08:39:13 AM »
I'm wondering if I may need an Aces High vacation. I Know many of you have been where I am now. It used to be that I would look forward to coming home, and logging into AH for 3-4 hours at a stretch.

Now, AH is getting competition from the history channel for my time.

I don't know what it is, but I'm just not enjoying the game as much as I used to. I still love squad nights, and TOD is my favorite event, but the normal evenings are getting tedious.

Dogfights just don't seem as intense lately, and I can't buy a kill. Last night, I was shot down without firing a shot in my first 2 sorties. Talk about frustrating. I was ready to destroy my stick last night. My gunnery has gotten terrible.

Meanwhile, bombing is as pointless as ever, though the strat raids are still fun. The only problem is most strat targets are 7 sectors away at 10k!! I just can't stand to sit in the cockpit for 3 hours without firing a shot.

Then there's the issue of the maps. Since FesterMA, no map looks as appealing.

I'm wishing horrible diseases on Spit drivers now, especially when they shoot me down which seems like constantly.

And to top it all off, my mic stopped working last night!

Tell me I'm not alone! Tell me this doldrum will pass. I don' t want to learn a new game!

P.S.---I think we should rename AH2 TOD to Aces High 2, Electric Boogaloo.

funny you should mention that....was 1 of those days for me 2

I was seeing lala's and spits an niki's only.....

everywhere I looked....

no matter what i did.....they where everywhere...like a fuggin nightmare.....

I'm starting to get disappointed with this game....

either I go back to my AW days tactics of perching....but i really don't wanna do that.....

or do what 90% of people do in this arena....grab a plane and go straight at enme and spray till some1 dies.....to much of this goin on right now.....

in the past 3 days I've had a couple of 2on1's 3on1's....usually me being the 1......Ho's man.....dieing to HO's when 3on1 is just enough to make me wanna NUKE everyone in sight

If AH isn't fun for you right now, stop playing it.  I suppose I'm a hedonist by nature, but I just don't understand the desire to continue playing something that isn't fun.  This is a hobby, after all, and not a job.

Go grab a different game, something totally different than a flight sim, and play that for a couple of weeks until the urge to fly hits you again.

Its time for you to serve the queen.

Resistance is useless.

By the way, if AH is getting boring, you should check out some of the free mods for F1 2002, like the ones at rsdg.net.  Some quick action without the long climb-out and gangbang festivals is only a click away.

Interesting as I had a blast last night.  Still can't shoot, rarely live but damn good fun.

The kid and I were cruising along in a couple of P40Es just under the clouds near A44 when we saw the first flash of red and then many more below us.  It caught us by surprise.  Drop tanks and roll in knowing we're gonna die but what the hell.  We somehow managed to hit opposite ends of the runway at the same time, shooting up a trio of B17s taking off, hammering a Spit that was just up and an F6F.

We know there is little chance of surviving as the hornet's nest has been stirred.  I've got two on me, a Niki and a Spit and I'm on the deck kicking rudder and swinging from side to side trying to throw of their aim while the kid comes screaming back in.  I'm laughing as he's telling me when to break and hammering the two trying to hammer me

The Spit goes down to his 6 50s as the Niki gets hits on my wing.  Meanwhile others are trying to hammer the kid who is trying to save his old man.  The Niki gets hits on my engine and I start to smoke but I'm still moving.  Boom!  Niki dies behind me.  Thank goodness the kid is a better shot than me.  Too late for me however as the next wave has come down and an LA7 finishes off my battered P40E.  Somehow the kid gets out of the mess racing away from the field with an angry mob after him.  By this time the marines have arrived and he escapes.

The entire time I'm thinking, this is what the game is all about.  Moments like that where you get sucked in to where it feels like you are really in the cockpit make it all worthwhile.

Don't bother with GVs, because a near miss with a rocket in the front armor of a tiger will kill it instantly, but a stuka 1800kg bomb or 5 lancaster loads won't kill it .

I'm sick of HT just saying it depends on where you hit, it's bull****.

eek i have something in common with a MAW. lol

i have been taking time away lately to do carp around the house and help my buddy work on finishing his basement.

i dont know if it helps because it has been about 2-3 weeks.
JB42 always tells me to chill out when i get into one of these slumps (about once every 2-3 months) and usually gets on me about yellin and cussin cause im po'd. (BTW if you see me b****** in ch1 this "slump" thing is ussaly the culpurate.

i usually come out of the "slump" late at night on a saturday (like 1AM) in a 2 man raid on a base. get a solid wingman and just the 2 of you go to a base and shot down everything that tries to climb to the fight. it helps get confidence back and a feel for killing!

oh well another lame thought by yours truly
I don't know what to put here yet.

Muck

I took a 5 month break and came back when Fester's Map came out.  Been having a great time overall.  Last night I had a few sorties that are pretty much what you describe being bored of...I head into a fight, and all I see is SPIT, N1lK and LA7 everywhere. >shrug<...its what people like.  I did have a great NOE fight with a good 190 pilot last night, ducking between hills and such.  The ones you really have to work for, I like best.

After being pasted a few times by N1ks and such, I went into GVs...had a good time.

I just try to rotate what I'm doing before getting frustrated...fighters not my thing...go bombers for a while.  That gets old, hit GVs...that gets old, maybe man some ack guns/ship guns for a bit.

Im not the best fighter pilot, bomber or tank driver...but I'm fairly competent in each now  :)

Muck,

I have to agree with LePaul ... get into a GV ... it can be just as exciting hunting in a Panzer as it is dogfighting. Manuvering to position yourself for flanking the enemy is immersive and learning how to hit long distance shots is challenging. Killing at long distance is rewarding.

Had 2 sorties in an Osty last night and scored a total of 60 kills. Was a BLAST !!!

If I am "THE SUX" in the air, I jump in a GV for awhile for a change. Get the juices flowing and then get back into the air.

Funny you should mention JB...

I lost it so bad on squad vox last night.

I got shot down and just exploded.

I said things that would make a sailor blush.

I want to take a break, but I'm afraid I'll miss a moment.

You know those moments. You could fly for 6 hours and find nothing..then in 38 seconds, win a swirling dogfight, or pinpoint bomb a target to make it all worthwhile.
