Those of us in California are neither thin blooded yankees nor thick speached southerners.  We're just Americans.

Of, if you believe a southern friend of mine, 'weirdos'.

LoL I had a friend who grew up in the south tell me, when I was going to go to mississippi to buy a car, to lie and tell EVERYONE I was a texan. He said if they found out I was from Cali they would hate me and the cops my harrass me.

LOL he was not joking about it. Or he says he wasnt. I never went to find out though.

Ohio Yankee here.  Even our Columbus NHL team is called the Blue Jackets.

My Great-Great-Grandfather fought in the 34th PA Infantry, Company I, and took a round in the thigh at the battle of Wilderness, VA.

Rip isn't gonna like this thread...the "Y" word being used and all.

"Yankee" and "thin blooded" in the same sentence is way off.  I had snow on my porch this morning.

I would have fought to preserve the integrity of the Union.

So even though I am not of either Northern or Southern state heritage, I consider myself a Yank.

Yankee (NY and RI)! Although I don't know anyone, including myself, who uses that term to describe themselves other than discussing North-South/Civil war issues.

Where does W. Virginia fit in the mix?  As far as I know, it was the Union loyalists region of old Virginia that broke off to form a seperate state after the war.
