I don't remember the size of the circle, but the computer keeps the guns trained on a single point as they circle.

What exactly is the advantage of using this cannon instead of bombs/rockets?

It's cheap bulk firepower, with better accuracy than dumb iron bombs.

262 and ju-88 ( and outher sI guess)  had this gun

 HUGE

The BK-5 was an adaptation of a tank gun and was intended primarily for use against Allied heavy bombers. Its magazine held 22 rounds and the gun had a rate of fire of 45 rounds per minute. BK-5 cannon were installed in some Me 410 twin-engine interceptors and experimentally in the Me 262 fighter, but the war ended before testing with the latter aircraft could be completed. Only about 300 of the guns were produced and combat usage was limited. When Reich Marshal Hermann Goering was captured and questioned on May 10, 1945, he mentioned the BK-5 experiments translated as follows:

"You might find around Germany some jet airplanes equipped with anti-tank guns. Don't blame me for such monstrostities. This was done on the explicit orders of the Fuehrer. Hitler knew nothing about the air. He may have known about the Army or Navy, but absolutely nothing about the air. He even considered the Me-262 to be a bomber and he insisted it should be called a bomber."

SPECIFICATIONS
Weight: 135 lbs.
Muzzle velocity: 1,600 ft./sec.
Gun length overall: 45 in.
Barrel length: 23 in.
Maximum rate of fire: 45 rounds/min.

You get a handful of bombs and missiles/rockets on a plane, but in AC130 you can carry a whole lot of ammo and deliver it to target with near pinpoint accuracy.
So it can pretty much bring down whole lot more than bombs can.

Although I would only use it without any excessive AA in the area..

Somehow I don't think its the pilot doing the shooting and the 'HUD' part of it.

To my knowledge AC-130 does have it's own fire controller and he does not use plain HUD, but more sophisticated ways of targeting

email me and i will try to figure out a way to get it to you or find the link again so you can get the short movie of it. (spectre)

And i guess i am going back to when the mini gun (puff the magic dragon as we called it) .was the C47 Fire Dragon nickednamed Puff the magic dragon is what i saw. I hate to have to prove things but from a web page for the i dont think so..  I did the research for you. should of looked it up like i just did to show ya

Capt. Terry arrived at Bien Hoa in October 1964 and immediately checked the maintenance records of the C-47 section of the Ist Air Commando Squadron. He picked out a fairly low-time aircraft which was delivering supplies and mail out of Nha Trang. The aircraft, C-47 No. 43-48579, was ferried back to Bien Hoa where Terry and his crew mounted three of the GE Minigun pods in the cargo compartment. Two were mounted in the last two windows on the port side, while the third would fire out the open cargo door. A trigger button, which could fire all three guns individually or simultaneously, was mounted on the pilot's control wheel. A Mark 20 Mod 4 gunsight, the same as used in A-IE Skyraider fighter-bombers, was mounted in the left cockpit window.
