Title: Favorite Aces High Moments??
Post by: EagleEyes on February 20, 2008, 02:57:29 AM
Mine would have been shooting my first 262 down.  Was flying the "old" spit 9 back in AH 1.  This guy dove at me, i pulled up, and hoed the guy!! lol.  Dont remember his ID but i got some unpleasant PMs on how Hoeing wasnt dogfighting and i cheated and this and that....Oh yeah, forgot to tell ya, he fired first! lol

Another one of mine would have been just after the B-24 was added.  All over bishland people were screaming on how this huge Knight raid was bombing a couple fields, so, i upped a 110 with rockets.  I couldnt catch them, but followed dar to the base they were landing at.  Just as i got there, about 10-15 flights were in the process of landing, some were already on the runway.  I selected my rockets and fired them from 2k out.  With the 4 rockets alone, i ended up with about 8 or so kills, then i swooped in with my guns blazing!! I ended up lighting up another 5 or 6 bombers on one pass.  I was SO excited about it i looked back behind me to see how many were still there, and BAM....  I ran smack dab into a tree!! lol....

I curse my luck sometimes!!

What are some of your most memorable Aces High moments or fights???

Best moment- Tie between attacking an escorted Buff raid (6 or 7 flights of B-17s escorted by about a dozen P-51s) in a 109G6R6 and surviving with 3 kills and no damage; and landing 11 in a P-51B in the LW arena. Sweetest part of landing the 11 was that the night before I'd gotten 10 and got run down by a Spit as I tried to get home with about 5 minutes of gas and no ammo left. Felt like payback :)

Favorite moment was a low fight between us in the 4th and an intercepted 190 raid. Everyone else dove in and mixed it up, but I had a hunch that there were more, so I stayed high and watched for backup. A late D9 came streaking in about 5K below me- rolled over and bounced him. Surprised him so bad that he spun in smoking all the way from about 12K to the water. Used the speed from the dive to tear in and clear a few 6s and whack the last runner whod tried to sneak out. We got the whole flight with no loss and the fight (from contact to last splash) lasted less than 1:30. Felt liek a real late-war mixup off the coast of Germany, was a blast.

The last kill of that fight is where this screenshot came from.

The 9-11 memorial flight.

Don't think there's been that many planes in such a small area that weren't trying to shoot each other.

I cant say i remember that!!

I remember 68KOs memorial flight with C-47s circling the field, Tigers on the runway, and the 68th flying P-51s and did a fly by over the field...

Does anyone have the 9/11 flight on film??

Usually any night or event where all the pieces fell into place...

When I won a 6v1 in a P40E on the pizza map.  I was unstoppable that night. :)

When I bagged 12 kills in one frame of the 2nd BoB scenerio flying with the Assassins in 110s.

Massive furballs on the 10k A1 map between A13 and A15 (north northwest of A1, beyond the canyons).  This is where I learned to fight.  I'd grab just about any crate and suck horribly.  Eventually that paid off when one night, I suddenly found myself peaking and bagging many kills with very little deaths.  Something clicked, and I never really attributed my success to any specific focus... I began to think less and just react.

There are many more, but those above really stick out.

Almost forgot the joy of this little furball we stirred up back when I was in the 80th. I think it was Dan, Shuff and me, picked a field and started picking them off as they tried to climb out at us. Within about 30 minutes, it turned into this- and this was just the section that was in view as I was heading back in after getting shot down. Was one of the most intense furballs I've ever been part of, and it all started with 3 or 4 P-38 sticks out lookin for a "good time".

I count 38 dots, including Vipr.

My favorite moment was back in my knit days spent a week or so getting manhandled by everyone I encountered but, one name kept coming up.

                                                        YUCCA

I wanted to kill him soooo bad.. finally I was fighting over tank town in a p51D and I noticed a P47N doing some amazing acrobatics and I realized it was him.. I dove in just as he peaked on a climb out.. started shooting at 800 out and blew him out of the sky.

I screamed for joy all the way home.
Two weeks later I lost my first ever taken up 262 to him

:furious

He was one hell of a stick.

Anybody still have the film of the fight with Yucca dropping his gear, forcing the overshoot, bouncing off the ground, swerving around a tree, and shooting down a Spit within about 5 seconds?

That is one of the all-time most amazing moves I've seen successfully pulled off in a sim.
Title: Favorite Aces High Moments??
Post by: DiabloTX on February 20, 2008, 05:43:02 AM
Every film I saw with YUCCA in it was jaw-dropping.  I especially remember one where he flew through a hangar, made a sliding right hand turn around a column of flame that was probably a fuel storage tank, and elude his pursuers.

The 9-11 memorial flight was done in '03.  oOSTREAM14Oo made a film of it but have no idea if it's still posted somewhere.

my free trial and I upped a Hurri I to intercept some inbound lancs (hadnt shot a buff before that, or flown a hurri.) tried to remember what attacks look like in war movies, so climbed to 1k above them off their 4 oclock and dived in.

5 or 6 slashes later the outer 2 lancs were down and the lead lanc had no rear gun. unfortunately I didnt have any ammo left either, and then I remembered an interview with a BoB pilot who had run out of ammo while intercepting a dornier:
"I was looking at his tail section thinking 'that looks pretty flimsy' and decided to try to slice through it with my wing - the Hurricane was a tough aircraft"

the fuselage had taken a few rounds already so I thought what the hell and dived at 45deg just right and infront of his tail. bang! I look behind me to see the lanc and its tail heading off in different directions. the hurri didnt feel great but still had 2 wings so I headed home. damage check revealed no guns, gear, flap or aileron on my left wing, so I left the gear up and ditched on the runway.

1st Hurri sortie, 1st buff kill, 1st succesful ditch, 1st "landed kills" on the text buffer and a historical engagement thrown in too :D that was the moment I decided to subscribe. I also did a little googling and found the name of the BoB pilot - I have my callsign because of this sortie :aok

Was in DGS scenario - escorting B-17s deep into Germany; primary target was clouded over so we pressed on to the secondary.   Fuel was a real concern- the intermittent attacks by small gaggles of 109s and 190s had forced us to drop our tanks early.    Short icon ranges used in a scenario really add to the tension, too.

We stuck with the bombers though and fought our way out; I landed with 22 gals left and I think Stalls had 3 gals left.    Wish I had recordings of the radio traffic, the bomber group commander was just excellent.   The squad and intergroup messages sounded completely authentic.   Felt like being in a WWII movie with an unscripted ending.

While flying my C47 around an enemy airfield in an attempt to capture it, I was spotted be a set of B17's attempting to land there. They headed toward my goon, turrets blazing as I flew underneath them. The pilot obviously was so intent on shooting me down that he slammed his entire flight into a hillside. After taking the base, I landed my "3 victories in a C47."

Another moment I remember was when I hosted a Stuka mission. As we were climbing out, we were spotted by enemy A/C, one of which was a Spit16. The Spit dove in on DOWfog's Stuka. Fog of course got in the tailgun and fired back, and just the right lucky shot obliterated he Spit. I remember the enthusiastic WTFG's!!:aok

One time when I went Knights we were flying around trying to kill this last 109 from a raid. The last thing said on vox was "Check 6 ******", and that was about 5 minutes ago. Then someone (I wish I remember who) just comes out and says very casually "That guy's so ugly, he must have been hit by an ugly stick." The way he timed it and the way he said it was hilarious! :rofl

It always fun when TUFDOG has time to play and does the Vilkas Call. If you're in the Gruppe Outlaws squad, you know what I mean. :D :lol

I had some good moments in the DGS scenario.

My favourite was when I was a designated 'experte' for one of the frames.

I flew the whole frame, scored a few kills, re-armed for fuel and ammo, got 1 more and then managed to return home to my 'home' field with a couple of mnutes to spare.

That was great, it was like being a part of the real thing, making it back alive.

For the whole scenario I didn't die, I got shot down once but bailed out over a friendly field, so that added to whole realism of it, making it through the whole month with my virtual life intact.

I'd have to agree with arch.

DGS diving in on an insane amount of B17's with escorts and Luft iron all over the sky.   I don't think I have ever encountered that many players all shooting in different directions in the same bit of airspace.

That was EPIC!
Title: my favorate moment (s)
Post by: opposum on February 20, 2008, 09:19:54 AM
probably my most favorate moment would have to be when i was driving to a bish air base with an m8 when out of nowhere a 262 straifed me, i was sooooo mad because he got 2 of my tires so i turned to the side and fired once, by this time he was already out at 1.5k,         it was as if the world stopped for that moment, that 37mm round went right up his rear
and kaboom

i couldn't believe what just happened,
it was amazing,

another time i was in an m8 (btw this was all in the same month i started the game) i drove to an air base and parked in the fighter spawning hanger, i killed 24 planes before the rest of the rooks caught the base, when i landed, it gave me over 159 perkies, i was amazed, it must have been because the rooks had a low eny     :)

please excuse my grammer, im from the south :lol

Favorite-

Got in a good 1v1, fought our way down to the deck, a really good fight.

He winds up killing my engine.

I drop my gear , land and roll to a stop, waiting for the inevitable.

He doesn,t shoot.

He comes in and flys about 10 ft. over me and leaves with a

Classy!

It left me with a real good feeling about the game.

Least favorite-

Flying 1v1 against one of our more infamous alt monkey score hos.

Not much of a fight.

Maybe 2 merges and my plane is in pieces, and I bail.

Of course he HAD to kill me hangin in the chute.

No class.

Left me with a real bad feeling about the game.

Taking the good with the bad,

Boner

First kill was in a spitfire VIII vs BunyIp in a Me 262. Basically he overshot me on a Ho pass, but i got a few rounds into him, later on he crashed, went to land my first "kill" and was naturally vulched by an La7 upon landing.

I have a couple of good moments. 1 of them was in H2H on Denholm's Malta Server. I was bringing a C47 to a base. But I got intercepted by a p51. In a good mood, I tried to mess with him. So I continued to turn fight with for about 6 mins, until a zeke came in and got me.

Another time was last week in the AvA. Where I intercepted a big raid of ar234s and 262s escorts. And I was the only interceptor. I only got 1 kill but I got a couple others oil. I didn't last long. But it was fun to shoot up 234s with the 262s chasing me.

I was in a P47 and fighting a Spit16 on the deck, I had full flaps and gear down, slower than hell. I was turning with the Spit16, and soon his engine was sputtering. I was watching his engine, meanwhile, I was headed toward a tree. I jerked rudder and plane right, bounced off the ground, did a 180 on the ground and opened fire on the Spit16 (right in front of my guns).

Untill recently it was either winging with Hangtime way back when, he got bounced by StSanta.  Hang put his p51 in a power dive, then started hedge hoping across the countryside with StSanta throwing a heap of stinging, yet good natured abuse his way on Channel 1.  Hang replied with "GETTYUP LITTLE PONY!" no sooner had he hit the enter button he plowed into the side of a hill from typing.

Or the time I came across a mission that had just upped from a CV.  I dove down worked my way through the pack from back to front and shot down 9 in one pass.

Of all the good memories I have from the years though DSG has to be the best.  Taking the heavies in deep and bring them back out again... racing to the rescue with Corky after we refueled and picked up some stragglers and the rest of the 474th who were too low on fuel to engage the last of the LW trying to keep them from getting home... the frantic cries and mantra on the squadron vox "stay with the heavies...".  Had a sense of pride when it was all done.  I think the 474th brought more of the big friends home each frame than any other group.

Once I upped a goon to resupply HQ and I saw an enemy con over the horizon. I wasn’t in the mood to get shot down so a just turned around and landed. But instead of towering out I taxied into the main hanger; you know, the one where you pick out your plane and loadout. Anyway I shut my engines off and waited….long story short, about a dozen or so porkers came to deack and take out the ord. I ended up getting seven proxies and when I finally did tower out there was a lovely text massage saying: Whitten landed 7 Victories in a C-47 of ~~~FATE~~~

During the Frenchy Challange I was flying a D25 at 15k. Twitchy and the squad were attacking a feild. Twitchy yells at me "bustr, get down here you alt monkey!". I dove down to try and clear Twitchy being chased by 4 bish. I miss the bish. Twitchy dies and I inherited the 4 bish. It's was only then I realised I was being chased into a blind canyon because I stopped looking out my 6 just in time to pull straight up and miss the canyon wall. I got 4 proxy kill messages just as I cleared the top of the ridge.

Twitchy still calls me an alt monkey........

Was on a bomb run in B-24's and while returning to base I was flying over an enemy field, as a flight of 24's was taking off. I slowly crept up on the enemy buffs, I wish I remembered who it was, and once I was 500 out opened fire and took out two bombers. For the next five minuites we were turn fighting our 24's bouncing back and forth between pilot and gunner positions, I was laughing my arse off the whole time. My only regret..I didn't film it.

I've got a few.. and oddly enough I don't even remember my first kill!

I did get my first kill in a 262 the other day... been playing two years now and FINALLY saved up enough perks to afford one.  (Up until about 6 months ago, I flew uber rides, and ate up my perks as fast as I got them.. resulting in low perks.. now I fly lesser planes and am racking them up).  I was the diversion for a raid which worked out fairly well, and got my kill as I was turning around to RTB (Just HAD to BNZ some poor chump).  I even made it back and landed.

Anyways.. three great memories...

1>> Me163 Base hopping mission... about 30 of us upped them and flew halfway across the map, leaving the landing gear on and stopping at every other base to refuel.  Oddly enough only a couple of us crashed in the process.  We raided a base with them and got accused by many of hacking...

2>> "Operation Iron Butterfly"... not too long ago we found the map had the RV8 unlocked.  One of our fellow rooks decided to up a HUGE RV8 mission (just for fun) about the same time our mission was lifting.  We ended up at the same base.  We were on the town, the RV8's (About 40 of them!) were fluttering around their base, creating the greatest diversion possible.  From the town, it looked like a bunch of Butterflies fluttering over the base, hence the name.  Good fun!

3>> After getting tired of complaints about us taking tank town, we decided to make a point.  About 30 of us upped in Goons, and dropped troops all over the city in the middle of all the spawns.  A few of us got shot down, but there must have been over 200 troops floating down at one time.

Good fun!

Well, I hate to say it, but it was the night JB73 got so mad at me he got himself muted, and got so mad about that that he started a thread titled after me.
It was right after vox came out and I flew over to help Drediock.
Jb73 showed up in (I think) a 202, and I was in a Niki- Dred turned him perfectly, JB73 showed me his belly, and I touched the trigger, firing a 4 round burst, of which 3 hit JB and took off his wing.
As he was going down, I told him (JB) "Thanks for the easy kill" and he lost it, hehe I still laugh thinking about it.
I looked for the thread, but I could'nt find it (:

Massive squad operation that took two weeks to organize and all squads involved worked together to turn the whole map green in one night.

The plans Code name was : Green Millennium

The game was : Air Warrior

Can't find the picture of the map on the web. I know i seen it somewhere.

Another one might be 11 kills in a Nik and not one a vulch.  Busted up a mission and fought my way back to base alone. I was barely able to glide in dead stick with only a couple bullets left in my guns and hunter bogie's in the near distance.  I was lucky to claim my name in lights on that one.

Reading these makes me realize how much i love this game.  Everyone has a different story!! Might be same tale of a same event, but from a different point of view.

Another one of my all time favorites, and this was a couple years ago, was when i was with the 31st Bomber Barons.  I was bored one day and decided to put together a squad co-op in bishland.  To make a LONG story short, after about a month of planning, we had around 15 Bish squads working together at once.  We started the night with a HUGE B-17 raid with a P-51B escorts cuz of ENY killed our P-51D and flattened the entire front "was like 10 bases and about 3 or 4 bases deep.  The clostest fields to the front were a good 3 sectors away!  Within 3 hours, we took like 30 some odd bases.  IF i remember right, there was close to 400 bish on at that time!! Towards the end of the night, we began to worry about only being able to up A6M2/P-40Bs because of ENY!!  All the Knights began to log off because there was no bases enabled to fly from!

I put together another one about a month later against the Rooks, but didnt quite have the same success due to lack of squads participating, was around 10 squads by then because it wasnt a popular night for whatever reason!!

We all love AH for one reason or another, weather it be historical fights, unbelieveable kills, making great friends or whatever!! We all have a story to tell and i love reading about them!  So keep em coming!!

By the way....What about Bettys bomber mission??  Someone tell me!!

DGS seemed to be a fun Scenario.  Wish i could have been there, waited 7 years for that one, but because i was moving, i was unable to attend.  Anyone have screen shots from it??

The missions mentioned in DGS with the 474th would rank at the top.  Great bunch of guys to fly with, the total immersion and the 'tension' taking the buffs in and out.

If I go back to the Airwarrior days, there were some scenario runs that were close.  Del and I had some memorable flights in Longbow and Sicily, but the radio traffic, the look, the feel etc of DGS I don't know will ever be topped for me.

All those 38s in the right markings for the 474th, and all the good folks I was flying with, made that one tops.  Probably as close as I'll ever get to being a 'fighter pilot" :)

I can still remember the conversation going on about the time the screenshot was taken.  Guys were talking about grandpas, uncles, fathers who'd served in WW2.  For whatever reason it was very, for lack of a better word, 'moving'  to hear about stories of Tarawa, D-Day, Iwo, China or wherever, and talking about what it must have been like for those guys flying 38s for real back then, not knowing if they were coming back.

The 80th and SAPP is good fun in the MAs, and keeps me going, but DGS was something special

Ended up being the last one killed.  I got nine before getting killed.  It was the first time I'd killed nine folks ~ 3 of those was one guy who kept coming back :)  Since then, I've gotten one or two nine-kill sorties, but none were ever as much fun as that one time at the port. :)

Also, there were some almost as memorable sorties where I'd spawn somewhere in an osti ~ zing a fighter ~ same guy would come back in a light bomb dropper (zing him again if I'm lucky), then he'd come back in lancs and drop a full load on me. :)  Those were smashing fun. :)

One of my favorite ones was when I got into a turn fight.  Both me and the guy who I was fighting were in P-51Ds and at times we were applying up to 50% flaps.  On one turn I was above my opponent and he flew straight into a mountain side.  We both saluted each other and we went on our way.  Another one is when I was in the DA last weekend and I was in a F4U-1A and I was shooting planes down left and right.

Another one of my favorite moments is when the bish started up a jeep raid against one of our gv bases. I was the only one there and thought it was a tank raid, so I upped a tiger. I see one jeep come from behind a hill, so I go to MG him. After killing him I look back towards the hill and here comes 30+ Jeeps and M3s! :lol  I rush back to the map room in case some of them actually get past the ack which is still up. I just sit there and watch jeep after jeep blow up to ack fire. After they all died they all upped tanks :D . Landed 34 kills in a 2 minute sortie.

Some years ago we upped a large mass troop drop in C-47 on June 6th.

When the defenders came in, we heard a lot of "you guys look so good out there, I don't wanna shoot you" - awesome to see messerschmitts soaring through our formations and not firing a single round. And even more awe inspiring was the sight of 100s of parachutes filling the sky.

Later that day we launched a commemorative beach landing from a CV. Loads of guys heading for the beach/port launching troops inland.

That was a fine day indeed.

Another one was when I was at a town (attempting to defend... and not doing a good job of it). LTARS sent in some kind of planes (it was early enough that I don't recall what kind ~ probably 110s or something of the sort) to take the town down. Then from over the water about 10 goons showed up. Didn't expect that.  And definitely didn't shoot all the troops. :) Was something else to watch though. :)

my favorite moments in AH are when you find that rare 1 vs 1 in the MA that leaves your forearms sore and you sweating with cramped hands.  My most recent one was with RumbleB in a ki84, while i was in a G14.   Those are the moments I play for...why I keep coming back.

Kills in goons are easy...just fly around the trees, when someone comes for you make them overshoot and hit a tree.

A couple of months after i started up i was in a p38 on the uterus map, one of our island bases had an noe raid and busted it, town was still down and the enemy upped a mass goon rush. Was originally looking for a CV reported in the area, when i saw 20 - 25 dots down on the deck, i swooped in for a look and started screaming on country. There was about 20 goons and 2 fighters,  I pulled up behind one of the escorts and shot him down, the 2nd augured as i made a pass at him. With the escorts out of the way i had lots of goons in front me ready for killing , shot until i ran out of ammo(at the time i was not very good with ammo conservation) , got one with rockets then landed my 11 kills.

I think my most memorable flight was during december. I was all pissed because i was having 1 of those lucky days where it seems like the #1 turnfight ace was always on my tail. So i upped a n1k and went to knit land. I was about 7k and i saw 3 spitfires my level and went to engage. On my first pass, I picked one (easy oppurtunity). now i dont know what they were doing in formation but i blew the lead guy out of the sky. The next two turn opposite directions so they could see which one they could get on. 1 ended up getting on my tail so i banked my aileron and my rudder to the right causing an overshoot and shot him out of the sky. The next one still turning ended up right in front of me and was an easy kill. Okay i have 3 kills right?? well i just want to go land them. Well a tempest ends up coming up on me, and he kept trying to pick me. Well, if they pick, i ho, on his last pass, i had built up my E and pulled up hard to get him in the ho, I shot first and ended up takin his wing off. As i recall, it was Bruv119, so I dont think he was very mad since he could probably up like 1000 more...

Well, i got 4 kills, i just wanted to go land them. So i hit the deck and ran going about 400mph when my squadie DCCBOSS's icon showed up and he had a spit 16 on him. Well he was losing so i went in and snuck behind the spit and killed him. 5 kills, alright time to go home, so im going home still, then there was 5 planes vs. Joker2 and 5pointoh, well i joined the fight getting a n1k, then my hardest fight was me vs. a Hurri2c. Well, i wasnt aware that it was the most maneuverable plane with cannons at the time so i turned with it. He did all of this wierd stuff and got on my tail. He started shooting but seemed like he only had about 50 rounds left in each gun. Well i decided that i was going to be a hard target, so i cut my engine, banked to the right, then left, then brought my plane to the right, and pushed my rudders to the right. The hurri couldnt keep up with the aileron movements and ended up in front of me. I shot him out of the sky. 7 kills and it was time to go home, i still had 400 rounds left and I was pretty happy. Well when i got to base, there was a 110 deacking the field and i killed him. After that, i went and landed that. Got 15 perkies. I was in such a good mood, i upped a spit 8, landed 4 more kills next sortie.

Don't have a particular one moment, one memory that stands out is back in AH1 days being in H2H. A bunch of players from MA came to H2H and TW9 hosted a Team KOTH type event using the rumble terrain. Was a lot of fun doing 4 vs 4 fights in the same planes.

Last night I had fun in TT. Upped an M8 and went around jumping Shermans and Panzers. Disabled them with two shots and eventually got the kill. At one point I followed a Panzer over a hill and there ended up being 2 Panzers in that one spot. Disabled them both just before they got their turrets turned my direction. Ended up landing 5 kills. Was like using ACM on the ground.

I have a couple;

My first FSO as a noob of 3 weeks I had 6 assists.

In the MA, I once attacked a GV base in a M4, killed 22 GVs coming out to get me, shot down a B25 with my main gun, got the 3 hangers, the ack, augered back in an M3 and took the base.  It was one man against about 8 so I was pretty proud of myself.

Oh here's another.  I had been playing for about a month and I saw a friendly on my mission channel getting shot up about 3k below me so I dove to clear him.  I killed the E/A in a single BnZ strike and then I start getting psychotic PMs from the guy I shot down telling me how I am responsible for destroying the fun of the game because I'm supposed to let him kill my teamates.  He continues for like 20 minutes saying I'll never amount to anything in this game (because he's apparently a bigshot top 20 fighter pilot) and I should quit.  I won't say who it was but I'll let you fill in the blanks: B_ P_ _ _ _.  The whole episode just made me laugh.  I'm trying to learn how to fly and this knucklehead is telling me I can't shoot him until he's ready for me to shoot him.

Shooting down Kermit's 262 in a Yak 9T by climbing vertically toward his 12oc to line the shot up and using just 5 37mm rounds to do it and unable to see the 262 while firing. Total guesswork.

Never again have I matched that feat. I fear I have wasted my entire life's supply of Lottery mojo on that shot though.

It was AH1, Mindanao map, near A44.

The first time I saw a C-47 dropping troops.  Not having any real flight sim experience I was just shocked the game had that kind of thing.  I had been flying for about a day or two and didn't really get the whole base capture concept so I went straight for the C-47 and let the troops take the base.  Man those guys must have been laughing their arses off watching the noob screw up an easy defense :)  They got the base of course.

After my two week trial I decided to join a squad.  I didn't know how to use the radio so I was late joining up with the squad in mid-flight.  I saw a bunch of orange dots in the sky and, never having encountered that before, assumed they must be enemy.  I swept in and shot up my new squad!  Too funny.

Probably when I single handedly captured an enemy field bombed, 110ed and gooned (done that a fair few times now)

But this one time Grillman was attempting to launch a raid on the field I was using from the one I was attacking.   I flew my goon past 3 escorts, grills lancs and their c47.

A p51 and the goon turned back to sort me out   I landed and let troops run.  The pony pinged me up but i taxied around a building.  He came around for a second pass and auguered into a building.  The enemy c47 dumped his troops over his own town.  mine ran in took it and the ack blew his c47 up.   Took off and landed the 2 kills.

Re-upped from the field they were headed in a typhoon and killed them all

My favorite was a kill that was only a proxy!

I was in a Niki supporting an attack on a Vehicle Base. I had used up my ammo de-acking and on GV's and such so I turned off to return to base. As I was leaving the area I passed a friendly C-47 heading in with troops. A couple of minutes later I hear the goonie pilot. "Badhorse I need help. There's a 190 here!" I turned around and told the goonie driver I was out of ammo but the 190 guy doesn't know that so I would see what I could do.

As I got closer I saw the F190 starting his run on the C-47. I dove in on his tail and he broke off the goonie. I stayed on this guys six for awhile while we twisted and turned. Well this guy twisted once when he should have turned cause he hit the ground with a very nice explosion. Mission accomplished. lol One dead 190 and I never fired a shot.

I will be the first to admit it was plain dumb luck. But the atta boy from the goonie driver made me feel pretty good.

It was the 2005 Coral Sea Scenario.

I had been working on some basic torpedo tactics for use in the TOD and CAP events on and off for a few years. I had even created a terrain for practicing torpedo attacks (various high alt starts, several fleets to attack etc.). So when they came out asking for volunteers to lead the groups I imediately applyed to take over one team's torpedo groups.

One thing that has always bugged the crap out of me in events is the poor utilization of torpedo planes. In many of the events i have participated, the torpedo planes are sent in on the deck in an attempt to sneak and attack the fleet. In some cases, creative planners try to time it so that the torpedo planes act as bait to get the enemy CAP down so that the divebombers have an easier time of it. Either way, the results for the torpedo pilots are the same: We die. It was so bad in the TOD events that many times Torpedo planes were given "second lives" in fighters to ensure that the pilots in that squad would show up.

So my first goal in taking on this assignment was to convince everyone that we were going to fly into harms way, launch our torpedos, and survive the encounter. We wanted to establish an esprit de corps among the torpedo pilots, so I included the following on the opening page of our training website:
Quote
By way of introduction, let me emphatically explain why torpedo duty is the most important aspect of modern Naval Warfare. In order to attain victory, our forces must apply sufficient ordinance upon enemy shipping, to cause that shipping to sink. We currently have three methods for applying that ordinance. The First and oldest method is through naval bombardment. This method, while quant and amusing, is not well suited for the modern naval battlefield. While the ranges of our naval artillery are far reaching by Napoleonic standards, they are nearly insignificant when compared to the range of our ordinance bearing aircraft. The Second method for applying ordinance on the target is the dive bomber. Divebombers can reach out and apply ordinance out to a range of hundreds of miles. Unfortunately, they can only apply it five hundred pounds at a time. The third, and most important method of applying ordinance is the torpedo bomber. Our planes can reach out to the same ranges as the dive bombers, yet deliver over three times the payload. When it comes to bringing the pain, the Torpedo Bombers have no equal.

Of course, there is a downside to all of this power. While divebombers can streak in towards their targets, drop their tiny bombs, and then run away like a 9 year old girl. We on the other hand, must lumber towards a wall of flack, at speeds so slow the tide is passing us by. This is the price that we must pay for the power that has been granted to us by God, and the CNO, If you want to run away, transfer now. There might still be room with the dive bomber gals. But if you have the fortitude to stand forth and lean into an enemy bent on your death: Welcome to the Exclusive Club of Torpedomen.

Our tactics were (at the time) easily the most fully developed torpedo attack tactics to hit the game. I'd be surprised if they have been surpassed since, but I haven't been around to know. We started by getting rid of the NOE notion. I promised my pilots that I would not accept any NOE orders. I had cleared this with our Side CO prior to the announcment, and it did a lot to help assuage any worry about survivability.

We were to come in at Altidude, between 15-20k, mixed with the divebombers. Our mission profile had us fly over the fleet in 8 ship formations, then, as we crossed the deck of the enemy CV, we would split into two 4 ship groups, one to attempt a port side attack, the other starboard. Bleeding that much alt in so short a time while the fleet was manuevering was a hell of a lot of fun. It was tricky to say the least. But we had practiced our tactics in H2H, using my torp map, and the flight and wing leaders all knew their stuff. That meant that all of the other pilots just had to be able to keep formation.

The results were spectacular. In the event, the other side immediately started to complain that we were using our torpedo planes as divebombers. I guess watching us dive on the fleet from alt was just too confusing to the bad guys. We landed several hits with our torps, and our losses were not too much greater than those of the divebomber squads.

After the first run, things softened up for us, and we were able to rinse and repeat our attacks throughout the frame. At one point, we even intercepted a Sad, Sad group of Kates trying to attack NOE. After two frames of domination, we switched sides and flew the Kates ourselves. There were a few variations that were necessary to adjust to the new airframe, but the general idea was the same. So were the results. In fact, I believe that we did better in the Kates than the Avengers, though that probably had more to do with the additional practice (not to mention "live fire" play in the first two frames).

But man, seeing those torpedo planes make a difference in the scenario really was rewarding, and will probably always be my favorite memory of Aces High.

Here's a link to our training website: http://www.hailcesarz.com/torps/page1.htm

There I was, flying B-17 Soozy Poo alone except for the usual drones and deep into enemy territory, bombing an ammo works from 31,000 feet, when I took a flak hit in a fuel tank on the very last bomb-run. I switched tanks, closed the doors and cruise-climbed out as usual, but my fuel state wasn't going to get me all the way home under full power by a long way.

I counted five enemy fighters climbing hard to intercept me and realised they'd be on me before too long. Normally, I'd carry on alone, but I knew a few squad-mates were in the arena so I called them to see if they could help. 'We'll see what we can do, Simba, doubt we'll get enough alt but we'll try.' Two of the Rook forward fields' radar bars lit up as four DuxWing fighters took off. 'We're on our way, hang in there' came over the squad R/T. Then my radio bar received two private messages; the DuxWingers had called for any Rook in the area to help see me home, and here were at least two letting me know they were taking off to assist. It turned out to be a few more than just two . . .

The first enemy to arrive was a foolish Ta152 which attacked me from low-six and I nailed him with the ball-turret, but not before losing an aileron and elevator and sustaining a hit in the No.4 engine. Then a P-51 made a pass from 4 o'clock but couldn't aim well enough in the thin air at high altitude to put more than a few rounds in one of the drones before he broke away upwards to go round again - and flew straight into fire from my top turret at close range. Two downed, but still two sectors to go before crossing into friendly sky, several more enemy fighters nearly within range, no more than 5 minutes fuel left even at the economical cruise speed I'd been holding since leaving the target - and then the radar bars filled the sectors ahead of me and I spotted my 'Little Friends' clawing for height. 'Bring 'em lower if you can', so I eased the stick forward to gain speed and oblige. The enemy spotted the fighters coming up and decided they'd make an easier target than me. I pushed on over the whirling dogfight that erupted below me and finally landed safely on the very last dregs of fuel I'd saved for the final approach. The engines stopped halfway down the landing run, out of fuel at last.

What an op! What co-operation! My 'Little Friends', this ol' cat salutes you.

 :salute

When blammo's son David was found after missing for about a week. Players vol to search for him. and when he was found and leaving the hospital, he was carrying his ACES high teddy bear players sent to him on the NEWS.

the things players have done for others speaks volumes of charactor and honor among Ace's high. from HTC holding accounts for players in hospital. to the avg player giving away video cards or sticks to players, and players helping others out paying thier account to tide them Thu hardship. These are my favorite moments, the rest just a game that even i take too serious myself.

One of my favorite moments was my very first day coming to ah from wb and i took off in a 190 and flew around for about 15 minutes when i seen a 3 red b-17s in front of me. I didn't know they was even bad guys( since i flew red in wb) and the guy next to me says hey doomed ya gonna get them buffs. I dove in and boom boom boom all 3 died within seconds and i flew home landed and got my name in lights. I remember sitting back saying wow this game is going to be easy.

Least favorite moments was the next two weeks wondering if i would EVER GET A DANG KILL AGAIN and sitting back saying wow this game is freaking impossible. :D

Well...For BB moments...

The stripper raid, and Operation MeatPuppet:  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,138115.0.html (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,138115.0.html)

My wife is actually reading Operation MeatPuppet now and is cracking up non-stop. She's russian and never smiles - so you know how epic that event was.

For AH moments:

Batfink and I were going at it - his 190 and my 38. I got twittle'd up, engine oil, radiator, pilot wound - just a mess. He escorted me back while dead stick. Think he's got that photo around somewhere, the video was lost sadly.

When I first subscribed I joined a mission with the (at the time)JG44 Night Hawks.  I was in a 110 attacking an airfield.  After dropping my ords I was put on field CAP while the more experienced guys finished the town and brought the goon in.  I was unstoppable. Every plane that upped I killed.  The goon was killed by a high con and most of the guys bugged out but I stayed to bag some more fighters. I was up to 15 kills in my 110 when I see tracers from everywhere. It seems the guys forgot to tell the newb about respawning field ack.  Still had a blast and the Night Hawks became my very first squad.

mine actually happened just last month. there was this noe bomber mission into a base so i upped a LA7 expecting on rushing to find the goon to slow the attack till help arived. the bombers instead of heading to town went for the base but stayed just hi enough for there bombs to detonate but were going extremely slow(they may have had there flaps down they seemed to be so slow). here i am just chugging down the runway and bombers start blowing up left and right and the proxy's stack up. after the bombers were dead i shot down 1 of there 2 110 escorts the other got hit by town ack so i got another proxy and proceeded to kill the goon as well. 12 kills and only fired about 50 to 75 rounds tottal. was laughing so hard at the bombers i unplugged my stick and augerd. just to find out from a squady who just upped 1 more low box was on the way. but i think that one had half a brain he blew up over town. lol.

I was in an F6F-5 one night and was attacked at an alt disadvantege by three 262's.  I killed one on the first pass, one on the second and the third a little while later, then killed the first guy again when he came back for more and landed all of them.

Twice, one of them just this month, I've chased a set of buffs staying just at the edge of guns range with the pilot in the rear gun position firing while they all flew into a mountainside giving me three proxies each time.

Once I was in a set of buffs, I think B-17's, still carrying my full load of bombs when I was attacked.  I dove to gain speed and noticed I was diving toward an enemy airfield.  I let the bombs go just to try to hit anything and got six kills on the runway.

My favourite was when my DA- Group SQUEEKING DEATH got together all at once along with friends and friends of friends. We went to the DA with about 13 + People.

We went rook took off in B-24s towards A1 at furball lake and carpet bombed it, knocking fighters bombers VH and Radar and Ord down in one pass, the whole place on fire.

The smack talk on the ALL channel was just hilarious. The knights were soooooooooooo mad.

Although another time would be the time I fought redhawk in a JU-87 while he was in a NIKI and I almost won. THat was a fun fight

Flying NOE 5 sectors to capture the enemy Me163 base and then rolling rockets right next to their HQ.  We stayed up all night defending our outpost until Skuzzy logged on around lunch time the next day and fixed the map bug.  After it was all said and done, we had killed at least 10 Me262s with our rockets, destroyed their HQ at least 10 times, and slaughtered a couple hundred aircraft.

I've actually got two... second far more interesting than the first.

First?
Back in Beta before structural integrity was implemented in the aircraft's wings, and captures were done at the airfield itself, occasionally I'd hear a call for goon, and I'd dive from 10k or so in a C47 and get a rediculous amount of speed built up, then sneak in at high speed and drop drunks.

Second, and much better.
Flyboy, Texmurph, and I were chattin one day, and it was suggested we up P-40Es. We went up to about 10-12k high and headed towards an enemy field that had a glowing band of red with still a low-ish number of green. By the time we got there, all of the friendlies were dead, and it was just us 3 with about 10 enemies co-alt and lower. The furball starts. Flyboy and Tex flew nose low to the left, I went nose high to the right. The 2 co-alt cons turned my way, and Flyboy and Tex took them out quickly. Then we started a bunch of BnZ passes on the other 8 cons, constantly covering each other when the enemies would get in behind us. All in all said, the battle lasted about 15+ minutes, and we left with all 10 enemy cons destroyed. Landed with Flyboy at 5 kills, Tex at 3 kills, and myself at 2, all in the 40E.
That was some of the best fun I've ever had.

In the MA, nothing's really stood out other than the first time I upped an ME163.  They got the feeling of strapping your backside to a bottle rocket down beautifully on that plane.  It always feels like it's going to fly apart at any moment, and that makes me laugh.

My favorite so far though, was in the FSO, was flying a Hurricane escorting bombers.  The enemy came in, in the ensuing fight I got pilot wounded.  I figured we were too far from a friendly base for me to make it home under any circumstances, so I stuck around in the fight.  My squad fought a bit, then started to do a rolling retreat.  As we got clear of the enemy fighters and started cruising, I gradually started to feel flickers of hope that I might make it down at the friendly airfield.

My blackouts are coming in more and more often as I'm on final.  I actually blacked out, straightened out as much as I could, heard my wheels touch down, and came to consciousness in time to correct my heading as I touched down the second time for good.  Left gear went out and I heard all manner of bad mechanical noises as I skidded down the runway.

The noises stopped, and I came back to consciousness, upside down in the middle of the runway, missing pretty much everything but the cockpit.  A cheer erupted loud enough to make Mrs. Wiley jump about 3 feet.  As I was typing in '.ef'...  The screen went red and I died.  A blast of profanity that turned the paint color in that corner of the room immediately ensued.  Lesson learned, have the '.ef' in the buffer as you're skidding to a stop in that situation in the future.

Nothing I did was spectacular, but just the situation was entertaining.

Wiley.

3 moments come to mind.
1) IN AH 1 you could crash your goon down and get troops out. Well surrounded by red cons all over the place but hadnt been spotted. So figured what the hell go for it. Ran the goon into the ground crashed landed and took the bases with 20+ cons coming under fire from field ack.

2) Shooting down a 262 with A Hurricane. Guy kept vulching took off from the other runway and hit the rudder nailing the 262

3) Flying B-17s shot down 3 Lancs in the gunner position. Guess the guy was AFK cause I managed to get right behind him and follow him to his target. As soon as he opened his doors I unloaded with the 50 cals. Before I knew the guy was shooting from the top turret trying to hit whatever. The guy was firing every but at me.  :rofl

Flying along in a Tempest to a field roughly one sector away by the coast on one of the gigantic maps. Around 2 or 3 k out of the field @ around 7k feet a bishop b-24 joker mission started upping.

I swooped in and did a pass from the direction that they were taking off into, so head on. There must have been something like 40+ planes on the runway, in various stages of their take off rolls. I opened up and scored multiple hits. By the time I zoomed away I had 15 kill messages.

In the midst of it all I took a radiator hit and only noticed it after I had already started climbing back up (Thanks to a squad mate saying it looked like my bird is leaking). I tried to gain as much E and when the engine died I set it to max glide. The tension involved with returning to base was significant. After touch down I had too much speed and noticed that with no engine my breaks were not responding. I veered the plane and ended up upside down just a few feet shy of the end of the runway. When I exited the score was at 16 or 17 as some of the planes that got away initially went down later from engine fires.

My lil ol favorite was only about a month back... I was in my zero around 3k up and a niki and a 109k come out of nowhere with alt of about 7k each. i managed to survive against both of them for...say it with me, 20-25 minutes of hard stressful maneuvers to stay away from their guns. after the 20minutes the 109k had lost an elevator from a lucky shot by me on the upswing and another bish came to help me out, the niki and 109k rtbd and me and the other pilot followed. We ended up at the base in a 2 bish vs 5 enemy. i shot down 4 after flying for another (god my legs hurt during this) 15 minutes :joystick:  . I decided to rtb (in a zero  :lol ) and a spit16 chased me. i shook him off and he left and then a ki84 chased me all the way back home and i landed before he reached me... i gotta say that when im in flight for over 35minutes of constant dogfighting and wild maneuvers to survive and land with 4 kills has to be my favorite moment... Its when i realized that i could do MUCH more in my plane than i previously thought and now im in love with the a6m5b and a6m2 :aok :joystick:

I was mixing it up in a furball off one of the island maps a couple years back. I was in a c205, and doing okay. There was about a sector's distance of ocean between our main continent-located airfield and the next island over with an enemy field. The fights were getting thick but staying over the water. Bombers, fighters, high, low, singles, multiples... The fight was just perpetual. I was flying there for a good half hour or more and had hotpadded a few times for ammo (stupid bomber! Take too much ammo to kill!!).

I was chatting with a pal on and off the whole time and base on our conversation he landed 5-6 kills and said "That's for you, krusty!"

It was such a nice gesture I immediately had to repay it. I had just taken off again, was heading out for who knows how many more sorties. My only damage was a hole in one wing. I turned around and landed 16 kills and said "That's for you :)"

Giving up a streak like that just for the comraderie! I'm not saying the landing itself was all that great, the sorties mostly forgetable, but just the memory of sharing of good will between 2 pals is why I'll remember that one for a long time. Was a pleasant feeling.

One night firedrgn was asking for more tank fodder on 200 so I up at the spawn he was driving back to base. All I see is a little dot I just point my turret up as high as it would go and try to lob one close, I kid you not, a direct hit and kilt him. He pm me that he hat 19 kills. :x :x

Same night up tank at some v spawn on a base it spawned me way up on a cliff so I thought hmm will this survive if I run it down the cliff. This was not a hill it was almost straight up and down. Anyway off I went and landed upright and the bottom right behind two tanks defending there base. I think one was coronado don't remember the other one. Anyway I popped them both. They were very unhappy.

Mine is when we had a 40 plane mission last year.  We had at least 20 110's dive from 20k in the town.  think only 2 or 3 of us pulled out of the dive, rest compressed and crashed all around town, only a couple of buildings were destroyed. that was the last time I took a 110 up to 20k  :rofl.

but my favorite moment, was not from ah, but from AW.  I had been playing for the first 2 weeks and would always get killed, it was hard to play with a mouse.  anyway, I upped from one of the rear bases, about 5 or 6 sectors back, went up to about 2k and noticed right below me, another airplane, I thought this is my first kill so I dove straight down pulling the trigger all the way till I crashed.  took me a few minutes to realize I was shooting at my own shadow.  the sob would not die  :rofl :rofl.

Mine happened while defending a V Base in a Ki-84.  While strafing M-3s, a pair of Spit 16s bounced me and slowly started to bleed my E.  So I tried to use their energy retention against them.  Went vertical dragging them both and then straight down.  Pulled out very close to the turf and almost totally blacked out.  Looked behind to see the first one hit hard and the second one almost make it.  Almost.   :rofl
