got this in an email today, it's pretty amazing, though I'd heard about this some time back... The video is great!
Russian Fighter SU-30MK - READ THE DESCRIPTION BELOW......IT IS
AMAZING !
Russia now has #1 fighter plane in the world..... SU-30-
Vectored Thrust with Canards. As you watch this airplane, look
at the canards moving along side of, and just below the canopy
rail. The 'canards' are the small wings forward of the main
wings. The smoke and contrails provide a sense of the actual
flight path, sometimes in reverse direction.
This video is of an in-flight demonstration flown by the
Russian's-30MK fighter aircraft. You will not believe what you
are about to see.
The fighter can stall from high speed, stopping forward motion
in seconds.
(full stall). Then it demonstrates an ability to descend tail
first without causing a compressor stall. It can also recover
from a flat spin in less than a minute.
These manoeuvre capabilities don't exist in any other aircraft
in the world today.. Take a look at the video with the sound
up. This aircraft is of concern to U.S. and NATO planners.
We don't know which nations will soon be flying the SU-30MK,
hopefully China isn't one of them..
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Note:
Friends worked with advanced aircraft flight control systems
and concepts for many years as an extension of stability
control and means of control.
Canards and vectored thrust were among many concepts examined
to extend our fighter aircraft performance. Neither our
current or next generation aircraft now poised for funding &
production can in any way match the performance of this
Russian aircraft NOW FLYING in any near combat situation.
Somehow the bankrupt Russian aircraft industry has out produced
our complex politically tainted aerospace industry with this
technology marvel. Scratch any ideas of close in air-to-air
combat with this aircraft in the future.

Do a search for Eagl's explanation on this, and watch the Su-30MK vid side-by-side with an F-22 vid.
After that, it's pretty easy to see which aircraft has superior flight control.
-
Does it have supercruise?
Is it stealthy?
Yes it will give a good pilot in an F15 a run for his money but if it can't see his opponent and is killed from 100 miles out what does all that manuverablity give him?
-
I want one! :O
-
"The fighter can stall from high speed, stopping forward motion

thats a good maneuver, it makes to easier for the american A to A missile to hit it.

Bnasty, you foolish, foolish man....
You don't walk into a country Western Bar and start talking about how Duran Duran is better (much less some godless Russian band)
It's a commonly known fact that the mere application of an American Flag to anything at all makes that thing not just bulletproof, but righteous, sexy and downright pleasant-smelling! Hell, I was at a Bon Jovi concert last week and the 300 pound bag of mashed potatoes sitting next to me transformed into a slender centerfold just by STANDING while Ole' Glory flashed across the big screen.
Get educated, my friend. To start yourself off, I suggest a pretty dense diet of History, Discovery and Military channel programming. Once you get your brain loaded with that, take the next step and talk to some pilots who have never flown, flown against, or even seen the SU30 in real life. Then your indoctrination, er, I mean education, will be complete!
Good luck!!
-
:rofl
mmmm, mashed potatoes delicious.

i prefer potatoes fried in the french manner.

So does your average 3rd grader... Therein lies our problem.

Where is Boroda? :D

Excuse me?
I was simply passing on an email...
Did I say I agree with what the email said? NO
Did I say our American fighters were in trouble because of this? NO
This video had nice footage. That's it...
And by "get educated", do you mean going to a Bon Jovi concert? Well sounds like some good history lessons there. :huh
I wouldn't go around calling people uneducated, especially if you have nothing to back it... That would imply the inverse; as in, you're the uneducated one.

Are you immune to sarcasm or something? Did you seriously take my Bon Jovi reference seriously? My entire post was mocking the people whose snap response was to disagree with you, pal. Read it a couple more times.
Sheesh

This subject has been beaten to death in here so many times. Eagl's take on it is probably the most well informed we'll ever get to see.

Third paragraph sounded insulting. I love history, and have a minor in History at Univ. Houston. I watch the military and discovery channel waaaay too much, so my girl says.
My bad if it was fasicious. I was just simply passing on what some 'internet' people are circulating...
EDIT: I had no idea this had been posted before Indy.

Gonna need some anaesthetic there bnasty..

LMAO! in Cali we called it the shocker! Now it's great to see an entire stadium full of hot college chicks holding it up in pride. :rock
<S> Indy, nice one!

I'm a huge fan of Russian planes, nasty. And the third paragraph was designed to be insulting, only not to you. Too many Americans march to the drum these days, foolishly assuming that their superiority in everything that matters is guaranteed until the end of history.
If I wasn't an American myself I'd find it funny, but I am, so I don't. If things continue as they have been for the last few decades we're gonna end up a second rate power, populated by overweight, undereducated blowhards who think that god has a special place in his heart for our fat, complacent asses.

Gotta ask.....have you ever seen an F-22 fly in person?

Neubob, may I, please, quote this post sometimes? I mean - I want to use this "dense diet" sentences, mentioning You as an author?
We have another fecal hurricane above, as I have read in some posts.
I hope we'll never see this planes fight in real combat.
-
I watch the military and discovery channel waaaay too much, so my girl says.
I have spent almost 2 months in Australia in 2006.
Their History channel made me understand that UK and Commonwealth won WWII with some small help from Americans and with Russians making obstacles. Also I have learned that Dardanelles operation was a turning point in human history. And ANZAC were the most important force there, regardless to the fact hat there were three times more Russians there...
To stay in a historical main-stream you have to admit that Russians are just savages unable to invent anything by themselves.
Look, Russians stole the Concorde - and Tu-144 flew 3 months before the "original". Russians also stole an F-15 design so their MiG-25 flew 6 years before and made recon flights over Israel in 1970. We also stole space travel and launched three satellites before US sent a tiiiny ball to orbit. We also were the first to ht the Moon and, later, to photograph the Dark side back im 1959. It was all stolen from Americans.
Untermenschen, aren't we? :D

I suspect they will someday engage in battle though it may not be Americans or Russians behind the stick. Then again, you just never know.
<edit>
I have been pretty accurate in picking the American Idol eliminations though. ;)
-
I don't think anybody would say that the Mig-25 was a copy of the F-15.
But, it does look a lot like this, which was operational in 1964.
And the Russians did get caught with the entire blueprints of the Concorde. It's not a complete copy, but that's what they relied on in order to make it.
Isn't it such an odd coincidence that the Russians keep coming out with near clones of western aircraft? B-29, Concord, F-86 Saber, Space Shuttle.
I'm not saying they have not made great planes but they sure have no problem copying ours.

Nuke, just please look at MiG-25 and F-15 from above and see that they are absolutely identical :D
I said that F-15 is a copy of a MiG-25. :D
/*I hope you understand my sarcasm*/
That bloody Russians already fly a plane that we planned to build three years later!...
My main point is that you guys make air-superiority planes against some Mumbo-Jumbo tribe, starving Iraq or raped Yugoslavia, not against a nation that can afford a full-scaled anti-aircraft defense network.
In a full-scale "conventional" war AWACS planes will burn like candles, and Raptors will get blind, while our AA-defense relies on multiple ground radars on our own soil, so invaders will be surprised. Our SAM batteries, divisions and brigades will literally chew all your invading forces. If even poor Yugoslavs kicked NATO bellybutton - then go figure what that Russian barbarians can do.
Look, US can only fight third-world countries, and only after they got starved by decades of international sanctions. No chance against a full-scale AA-defense, with satellite-recon and _motivation_.
Look at the difference in doctrines:you _attack_ while we _protect_. Now go tell me that we wanted to conquer you.
LOL I now listen to LZ bootleg from 1969, "Communication breakdown" :D

The DH Vampire was just a jet version of the P-38. Everyone knows that. :D
-
Holden, is your pic of a 25 copied from Microprose F-19? :D
Funny but we never had any problem with "copy protection" of that game. Everyone could just tell F-111 from Su-24 :D
-
Hmph. They all owe their roots, at the very begining, to stuff that the Germans' had on the drawing boards' at the end of WWII. Almost all the basic concepts' of modern aeronautics-swept back wings, swept forward, front canards, Variable geometry wings, T-tails, V-tails, Flying wings, etc. were there.
Although it can be strongly argued, that Jack Northrop equalled, if not surpassed, the Germans' in the flying wing department.

I dont think you will ever see a wartime dogfight with these planes at such slow speeds and high AoA so do these cabilities even matter? If its not stealth it will die long before it gets to Aim 9 range anyway and the US Airforce has few plans to buy any none stealth fighters.

F-22 and F-35 are stealth.
-
I think he means non-stealth.
-
The F22 could still win. It's supposed to be able to evade radar, not maneuver around like a 2c of planes. The only way the other plane could win is by machinegun or unless the F22 broke radar
-
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Those maneuvers are pointless. The plane is just flopping around like a sitting duck, and like Eagle pointed out, is really not under control most of the time.
Kind of like a karate guy showing off his fancy moves, then being shot dead by a guy with a gun. All show, no go.
And Boroda, your defense systems have so far been shown to be easily defeated by us. Almost effortlessly. All the stuff you sold to Iraq and Syria didn't help them even slightly. Israel just recently flew undetected and unharmed deep into Syria and back, which has some of the best air defenses you guys can make.
What does that say about your defensive systems?
-
I think he means non-stealth.
undoubtedly as I re-read...
-
The more I think about that video, the more I wonder what the Russians are trying to do.
They are still decades behind if they think that they need a super-maneuverable fighter. It seems like again, they have wasted their money trying to counter planes we put up decades ago, They don't seem to really have any advanced thinking, as they are always just following and trying to catch up with the west.
And by the time they put a plane up that counters what they think they need to counter, we have moved a step ahead and they are left with junk that only China might buy.
It's a good looking plane though.

The F-22 has vectored thrust for enhanced maneuverability.
-
The F-22 has vectored thrust for enhanced maneuverability.
Yes it does, but is more reliant on stealth and advanced electronics than maneuverability. It happens to have all options.
-
Fokker Dr.I. Low radar sig, cheap, and incredibly maneuverable. I should start my own defense contracting company.
-

Russian Su-37 had them too.
