Title: Myspace accounts? Editing?
Post by: NUKE on March 16, 2008, 03:46:27 PM
How many of you guys have a myspace page? I just got around to making a starter page and put a few pictures on mine, just so there would be something there.

The editing of the content doesn't seem to be very user friendly. Any tips for making a nice page? I'd like to put some music up there and was wondering how to do it.

LEDPIG, how did place for your music on your page? I like the way that works.

If any of you have pages and would like another friend, my page is at:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=207793650 (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=207793650)

To add a song to your page you go to music and search for a band that you like and you click on the band's profile and a list of songs is on the page click on add on which ever one you like :rock

I mean that I want to post my own songs and have an option for others to listen or download them. Ledpig has it on his, so maybe he'll chime in.

I've had a myspace page for several years, but I got so sick of having to clear out a dozen "come look at my porn site" or "come check out my webcam" messages and friend requests every day that I've hardly bothered to check it in about a year. Its nothing but a spam factory anymore.

I just started one myself for the same reason.

Half the time I can't figure out how to edit it.  It looks very bland compared to some of the stuff I've seen.

I kept mine pretty bland. I don't see the point in all the BS people throw on there, the simple way works for me. It also a lot easier to read and less distracting...

My friend Michelle started mine for me, in minutes I was looking at how to change stuff to make it more unique.

It's funny how it looks so different in IE as opposed to firefox ( I used firefox for the version I wanted)

anyway this is mine.. send me a friend request to get in  http://www.myspace.com/cheeseheadroy (http://www.myspace.com/cheeseheadroy)
I still go to mine once in awhile to listen to music while I'm on the computer.

I have a clip of a B-25 taking off from Page field in Fort Myers!

I used to be the king at layouts and stuff...once I had no ads on my site, not even the banned at the top. :D
I kind of let mine go for now, more import things to work on.
Maybe because of this thread it will inspire me to get back to working on them...Eh? :D

If you want to add your own music to a myspace page you can go to this site http://www.myflashfetish.com/myspace-mp3players.php (http://www.myflashfetish.com/myspace-mp3players.php) choose the skin for your player by clicking on the create now link under it, now on the next page you'll see where you add the mp3 title & URL for it, there are 2 sites it shows you where you can host your mp3's, File Den or Boxstr.  Goto one of those sites and create an account, it's free, then upload your mp3's and it will give you a URL for the mp3 you uploaded.  When you have the url just put it in the boxes, once you've added all the songs you want just click on the add MP3 button and you should get a source code, take that source code and put it in the edit section on your MySpace page.  You'll get a music player like I have on my Myspace page, you can look at it by clicking the link under my avatar.

I've had one for quite a while and have never had any issues with that. you may want to try setting it so only people on your friends list can send you messages.

I've really never had a problem with spam messages on there, but the spam friend request are getting quite annoying.

I deleted my MySpace account a couple months ago on the same day all the other cool kids did the same.  It's just not useful anymore.

I did set the messages to friends only, but I sometimes get up to a dozen spam friend requests a day. I've logged in after a week or two and had a full page or two of "This profile no longer exists" friend requests, and then the "Check out my ault pics" ones that haven't been deleted yet.

What I am looking to do is use it to network between several sights and contacts in order to try and get a friend's album heard.... when he's done with it.

Thanks for the adds everyone! And thanks for the link for changing the profile.

I'd love to get my music on there, but I'm still quite the novice.  I only have one original song, but it ain't finished, and I have no way to get it up once it is finished.

Actually, I've never even played it yet...

Lasersailer

If want, I could host it for you. I don't have a way that you could directly download/upload to my web host yet, but I could post it on their and you could link to it. I may try to figure out a way to get an account log on my website.

I'd love to hear them.

Know what you mean.

My wife has one and I only rarely look at it.
she has so much crap on there it actually slows my computer to a crawl.

not to mention half the text is almost unreadable because of how it blends in with the background..
i myself while I signed up.
I never botherd to do anything with it.

Too many kiddies and with all the bad press its gotten. I dont need that kind of aggrivation.

LOL Dred, those people that set the background image so that it clutters all their text are funny. What are they thinking?

Err, I don't have anyway to record it.

I'd set it up like LEDPIG did his. I hate sights that automatically start playing music. That really pisses me off.

I got overruled on my company website, so we have an annoying commercial the auto feed. I made them put an  off button on it though.

The people and sights I am going to network together are going to know what it's about, not just blindly forced to hear songs. :)

And I think Myspace is a good tool for something like that.

For anyone that might be interested:
The album is not a joke or an amateur production. It's a radio quality, professional album with real singers and pro musicians. He may get signed to an independent label we don't have illusions about selling tons of albums or even breaking even.

However, I am involved in such a way that I am in on the action if it does well.

Err, I don't have anyway to record it.

Man, I could have so helped you out. I just sold my Line6 Toneport on ebay.

You could buy a Line6 Toneport UXII for 200 bucks at Guitar center or even cheaper on ebay. It has everything you need to record, including the hardware. Really a great amp modeling section for guitar, bass, vocals and lots of effects.

If you want vocals, you'd of course need a mic. But this is a USB interface with all you need.

Dred, I went there and it froze my browser and played somewhere over the rainbow, lol.

I am using Firefox though, and it doesn't like some stuff on Myspace. I saw the pics (barley). Nice family!

I gots one, but not sharing :p

really I only use it to get info about favorite bands, and family members. I plan on changing it to a music myspace, but I am lazy and only go there about once or twice a month.

google myspace layouts and you'll find thousands of annoying way to bling your out NUKE :lol

seriously though I used one, then following the elcheapo HTML manually edited mine for a smooth look I like.

last few tips... under account options you can set it so other people's myspace pages don't automatically play the song, also to kill spam make your site private, also under account settings you can make CAPTCHA a requirement and all sorts of other stuff... under the "Spam" settings.

oh and what the hell:

www.projectplaylist.com

You can go there, create an account, search and add up to something like 90 tracks per playlist, with unlimited playlists. When you have your dream playlist, you can do a few clicky clickies, get the code to copy+paste into your myspace page, and waala! Music!

Interesting.

I just started working on my own cover of Ghost Riders in the Sky.  I may just be egotistical, but it seems like it rocks.  Might be too long though, for a fast paced punk rock song.

I have a joint Myspace with my oldest son. When he gets a bad grade on an assignment (thank you for instant grades on the school's website) the account password is changed and I have ownership. When he corrects his behavior, I give him the account back again. :)

I had my teen set up a myspace account for me (so he could add me as a friend, which would allow me to monitor his myspace page at any time I want). He does all that add, change format stuff for me. I like it, actually... he does all the work  :D   :aok  It's projectplaylist that he uses as well.

*edit* I don't get spam either.
