Why is it this way?
It doesn't seem right that if you practice or believe in some form of religion, whether it be Islam, Buddism, christianity or whatever, you are accepted by most christians or other faiths.
If you chose to be an athiest or agnostic, you don't seem to be accepted as an equal by the "believers".
So, to solve this "peculiarity of mankind", I choose to pray to "CROM" the god of steel, Like Conan the barbarian.
Now I don't have to worry about being discriminated against. I have taken the pressure off the "believers" who no longer have to intimidate me by giving me bulls*#t free propaganda to convert me to their ways.
-
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
At least in the USA, our constituion enumerates limitations on Congress with regard to religion.
It does not prohibit me hating you because of your religious belief (or lack therof) I am not Congress, I am a private citizen and my private prejudices (prejudii?) are private.
-
By CROM yer Right!!!
-
Shouldn't the topic be "Freedom From Religion!"
I agree with yea though.. but you could always join the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

I didn't say anything about congress!
I said "believers" like you are biased against "non-believers"
you just made my point.
thank you Holden.
In case you didn't read the entire post though, I'm now a "believer" just like you.
I pray to CROM.

Show me where I said I was a believer. (I am not)
I was showing you that the USA's freedom of religion is based on the government not having an official religion, thereby allowing me to freely worship (or not) with no worry of jailtime.
Looks like you need to look at your own beliefs and tolerance of others.

Would you like some free pamphlets extolling the glory of CROM?
It will help you become less bitter.
I can have some followers deliver it right to your door.

You're not alone .... http://www.venganza.org/ (http://www.venganza.org/)
There are many who live their life amongst the deluded.
(am a church of the fsm fan)
Just love how you can shove all that stuff in their face.

Also check out the "invisible pink unicorn" ... how do you know it's pink ...
I have faith...

well i am a believer and i don't have ANY issues with you and those that don't believe, its not up to me its up to you, Free will is a wonderfull thing!!
now as far as crom goes i have been reading Conan since i was 12 years old,(1982) and yes i still read them even though i love Yahaveh,
i think Robert E Howard was an amazing writer, and his stuff stands up today to anyones!(sad, he took his own life)
i have 52 Conan books in my library, plus alot of other REH stuff , that guy was awesome!!!

Oh, CROM doesn't believe in raping children and/or poligamy as some of the other faiths do or at least acknowledge it on a large scale. (but you can go to confession and make it all better regardless of the atrocity)
Our faith does condone playing aces high in our underwear with a half a can of old milwaukee between our legs.(oh what a visual that is)
I have no problem with other people and their beliefs as long as they don't expect me to agree with it. I do have a problem with any person using religion or religious beliefs to do immoral or illegal things.
You don't have to be a "believer" to have morals. Many "believers" have no morals, however most are good people and do lead exemplary lives.

My statement shows no bitterness, it does not say I hate you. It just identifies my understanding that I am free to hate you based on religious belief (or lack thereof)

"What is good Conan?"
"Defeat your enemies, have them driven before you and hear the lamentation of the women."
It seems those who follow Crom are not the most tolerant either. I suggest you engage in a bit of introspection.

Hmm . . . pardon me for saying, but it seems to me that, more and more, atheism is the "religion" that is both being pushed down people's throats and is highly intolerant of other religions. For instance . . .

It seems a lot of atheists take their "religion" very seriously, and try very hard to "convert" those of other faiths to their side. Not that there is anything wrong with that . . . except for the fairly obvious double-standard when they claim they want no one else's religion shoved down their throats.
-
Judging people for the things they do is a god given right.

you are absolutely right. I'm giving up on crom. he's a bum.
I now worship at the "church of the cheese eating doughboys"
I"m the leader. What I say is gospel.

I didn't say punish, I said judge.

Which God gave that right?

Our faith does condone playing aces high in our underwear with a half a can of old milwaukee between our legs.(oh what a visual that is)
You've almost got me here... I do have one question though.
Once the can of Old Milwaukee is full (Is there any restrictions on feedstock?) do we get credit for sealing it and sending it to the distributor and are these credits paid weekly or monthly? (I can conceivably fill many cans while playing Aces High)
Do we have the option of claiming our production benefit in subscription fees?
-
you don't seem to be accepted as an equal
What do you mean by accepted and what do you mean by equal?
-
Which God gave that right?
Any and all of them.
-
I am a fan of Freedom from religion.
If i have to I can listen to Bad Religion, but thats about as close as i like to get to religious types.
-
Crom, god of steel? You'd think he'd name himself Chrome then or maybe Chromium.. that sounds pretty cool!
You could have a hymn like this then.
So the graduations hang on the wall
But they never really helped us at all
No they never taught us what was real
Iron and coke
And  Chromium  steel

any and all proceeds will be used to support the flock and our future legal bills associated with followers who "stray" from the teachings as yet to be written.
I am looking for about 12 "followers" who want to jot down some jibberish and we will make a book out of it and start posting it on the web for "nonbelievers" to "get some learnen"
-
we can't really control the legal things we are exposed to much but...
If I had my druthers.. I would druther have freedom to not be exposed to advertisements than freedom to not be exposed to religion. The mormon guys come round every 6 months or so but smile and leave when I ask em to.. the add people harass me 24/7/365.
Go figure...

I haven't once had to weild a baseball bat to chase an Athiest off my property, can't say the same for the JW's, LDS or those damndable Baptists. < apologies to all the other door rappers whom I've forgotten >
Grab my hand for prayer and I'll most likely bite you!
IMO, religion has been in my face all too long, time to assert my Atheisism and kick some booty. Or just launch into a profanity laden verbal assult or two, maybe that will get MY message accross.
On second thought, the baseball bat is more fun.
Flatbar

Only had jebus types on my door once. I gave em a local variation of Playboy and told them to get a life. Dunno what sect they were from but they wore suits and spoke english.
Oh and I told the priest to get bent and get lost too when he came after my mother died in 2005. I told him that we were not interested in religion, only to get the funeral sorted. That went south after about 5 mins and he started preaching so he had to leave. We got the thing done via the funeral agency and the priest behaved and didnt talk about "heaven" or "jeesus" at all. I have had a nice talk with him later though. A good guy really, he just didnt get that we didnt care for his crap.
-
Well, in all of my 54 years I've never had to clear them off my doorstep with a baseball bat....and there have been quite a few rapping at my door during that time. In every case, a polite "No." was sufficient. The same would have worked for you Flatbar.
On the other hand, I've had my faith insulted on a regular basis at college, work, and in social settings...and almost always by an atheist who wore his disbelief on his sleeve. Nine out of ten religious threads on these boards are started, on a bi-weekly basis, by atheists....who spend most of their time congratulating each other on their intellectual superiority....and discussing the difficulties of functioning in a society where they have to look at so MANY knuckle-dragging believers.
-
:D
Us agnostics and atheists tend to wear it on our sleeves. You got us pegged there.
Hope i have never offended you. Hasnt been my intention if i have. <S>

:rofl I never have understood why they think I need to be "saved"? From what? I already got away from the cool-aid line at church, I saved myself. I am not an athiest (spelling), but I'm not into todays "Church of, forgive me for what I did yesterday, so I can go back out and do it again tommorow" mentality. I don't go to there house and tell them how to live, and I get a little upset that they feel the need to come to my house and tell me and my family, that we are wrong to live our lives the way we do, hipocrits.
-
No offense Nilsen. :D
A funeral can be a very difficult time to deal with anything of that nature. I'm sure the priest was just trying to offer his support and comfort to your family. Glad to hear that you came to a better understanding with him.
Regards, Shuckins
-
Now, I just don't get that attitude. You act as if these people are kicking your doors in. Does the thought of engaging them in polite discourse, or politely telling them that you're not interested, disturb you that much? (The key word being "politely.")
Gentlemen, I live in the Bible Belt. There's a religious zealot dwelling in every other domicile. None of them have ever tried to force me into a religious debate, or drag me kicking-and-screaming into Heaven. Arriving at work the other morning, a young female guard, who had been fasting and praying for her community, asked me to keep her in her prayers. A Jehovah's Witness. Although I'm a Baptist, and we do not hold their beliefs in high regard, I promised her that I would do so....and that is the way that that type of confrontation is handled in polite society.
Methinks that some of you doth protest too much.
-
I found what flatbar said to be funny, but I do not belittle these people when there at my door. I say no thanks and close the door. I do feel offended that they need to come to my house and push there point of view, I respect theres and all I ask, is that they respect mine, simple enough.
-

you know i was hoping to get some of you guys who don't believe and those that do, to have a good discussion, maybe a little more understanding, of Gods truth
check this post out if ya feel like discussing God.

Religion(s) is the cancer of the mankind.
"Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace "

Gwano, you have strayed from the true path, you have become an apostate. Crom will forgive but I won't. I am organising a crusade against the 'cheese eating doughboys'. Expect a glittering army of fanatical cromites in your land soon.
-
im not sorry but i could not imagine life with the thought that there is nothing after this life,
the spirit that is inside of us lives for ever. in laymen terms it is energy and can not be destroyed,
"religion" has distorted what God has said to us, and most people blame God for what men do!!
what i find funny is people who say there isnt a God who is the first they call upon when a catastrophe happens?

WAIT A MINUTE, CALL OFF THE STORM TROOPERS!!!
Last night while I was taking a dump, CROM spoke to me and said that he didn't approve of Conan's comments so I'm sort of going back to CROM. I'm merging the "Cheese Eating Doughboys" with CROM.we are now called "the CHEESE EATING CROMBOYS" I like the feeling of being "ALL POWERFUL", so i'm retaining that position in the new order. (Kind of like Warren Jeffs)
Hopefully I can get some tax breaks for next year.

Off topic means not of the game. (AHII)
Less serious is another possibility.
There are many threads discussing serious issues in this forum. Then there are the less serious about music, the latest you tube, whether some sports team is better than another.
One way of telling if something is of the less serious ilk and not the off topic variety is the thread title.
Your title, freedom of religion, and your first post shows me that at least at first you had a rant about an off topic, not a less serious mindset.
Then you misinterpreted my first post and after that had nothing else to post about and started posting about Conan.
Perhaps you should start a thread about bipolar.

You have sealed your doom. The "CHEESE EATING CROMBOYS" are a protest-ant breakaway from the true church of Crom. I am the new Pope of Croman Catholic church, Pope Cromulus the first. I accuse you of heresy and hereby excommunicate you. You will surely burn in the fires of hell for your heresy unless you repent. The Cromanian army marches tomorrow.
Hail Crom
(There didn't take long for the split to happen and a religious war to start did it? :frown:)

Religion(s) is the cancer of the mankind.
Government is the cancer of mankind. It just so happens that most religions are a form of government.
It is a cancer, but not for the reasons you listed.

You are correct in that I did misinterpret your first post, however all the remaining posts by me are in line with the topic and are not drifting off topic, but rather make a point about my opinions about the topic.(I thought your "superior intellect" would have caught that.

On a serious note,
I admire your ability to tell your father that as well as I respect your father's right to practice his beliefs and his faith. That is what this post was really intended to clarify.
A little humor sometimes doesn't hurt though. It only seems to really bother Holden McGroin.

If you were aware of my posting history, you would see that probably half my postings are with humor.
When you cannot back up your original assertion, you try to smoke and mirror your poor arguments with poor attempts at humor.
You chastise me for posting seriously, then claim that your attempts at humor were serious: when I call you on that, you claim that they were in jest.
Your foundation is … well it actually isn’t.
