Just when I stopped badgering the wife and started to forget about it.
The wife will not tolerate another request for one, I may be calling you to see if you have a spare room available.
:noid
-
Kinda looks like the off spring from an early challenger and an early camaro.
-
It's the headlights.
It looks like they are actually recessed, and not "painted" on.
:aok
-
Beautiful car but about 10 years to late....
-
Ain't it the truth........... :cry
But.... can ya still get one in Plum Crazy?
-
WOW!!!!!
That makes the Dodge Charger's look like sh....
-
Easy now...........
The local police around her have Chargers and they are smoking :devil
-
Isn't it against most department policies to smoke on duty? Or was it an engine fire?
-
Kinda looks like the off spring from an early challenger and an early camaro.
or more precisely, the car that started the ponycar......the mustang.
and yet again, 40 years later, chevy and chrysler are copying and following fords lead :D
-
man... i would kill for that car lol

It IS a Two-Door Charger.

It IS a Two-Door Charger.
Still looks amazing.

I read about this car about a year ago in "Motor Trend" or some other auto mag while waiting at the doc, saw my first one in person yesterday when I passed a dealership, they look sweet.
I like the retro car trend that's been coming around lately.
-
I'm disappointed that they weigh so damn much and aren't faster then they are.
Other than that yeah they look really good. There have been a couple at the weekly Kemah meet and they look bigger then I thought they'd be.
-

I believe the correct words in that sentence would be "perfecting and taking over"..............again :aok
-
Wonderful looking vehicle.
Police chargers are nice but they are tough to get used to from a visability standpoint. The A pillar is in a much different spot than the CVPI cars. In the CVPI's you sit up and can generally see out well, the chargers kinda sit low and have small windows. Other than that, they are saweeeeeet.....

Even those rinky-dink mini coopers weigh 3,000 pounds. Cars have really gotten bloated over the last 10 years or so.
I wish the taillight bar was thinner vertically but other than that, it's a beautiful car. The seats are incredible too.
It would be nice if they were faster but $$$ can fix that. The new HEMIs do pretty well with boost.
The streets will look good with Challengers, Shelbys and Camaros once again. :aok
I was planning on a ATI blower for my Magnum in a few years but perhaps a silver Challenger instead.

taking over,,,,yes.....perfectiing......not :rofl

:huh
The Base Mini Cooper weighs 2,546lbs. The S weighs 2,668 lbs.
Now, if you want to talk "bloated", look no further than the Audi TT.
-
dont like the body stile
-
Another depreciating asset. Buy now and it will be worth next to nothing in a few years. :aok

True. To REALLY perfect anything from Ford, Chevy or Dodge they would have to give it to Subaru :lol.
They get 300hp and 300ftlbs tq out of a 2.5L 4 cyl mated to a 6 speed with AWD and will last 300,000mi or more.
If the big 3 applied that same technology, a 5.0 litre (350ci) should produce 600hp and 600ftlbs.
Back on subject, the new Challenger (and Chevys new Camaro) look a helluva lot better than a new stang. :P

A 5.0l IS A 302. unless it's a gm, thenit's either 305 or 307.
a 350 is a 5.7L.
that 300hp subaru.....i have 2 customers that both traded their mustangs in on them. one drives a buick now, and the other one is looking for another mustang. :D
i do agree though, that ford and gm could use better technology.
they are still catering to us V8 guys though. the 5.4L ford SOHC engines are pretty impressive though, as were the 4.6L SOHC and DOHC engines. they make great power, and will take one helluva beating.

So a 2.5L with a big turbo is putting out the same hp as the 4.6L mustang N/A...what happens if you stick a big turbo or a KB Supercharger on that 4.6L?

<5mpg?

Yes lets put a turbo/supercharger on a car that already produces 425 hp/426 torque (speaking of the srt8 challenger). I would think it should be a dealer option. Kind of like Tasca's 427 in a Falcon 2door. Ahhh yes that's what the world needs now, another Tbolt. :devil

i'm holding out for the 56 chevy redo.

the 4.6L ford engines actually are hot rod engines. they have corssbolted main bearings, are SOHC or DOHC, and can be built to around 750hp without modifying the engine block.
paxtons, and votercs seem to vork very very nicely on them

One thing I think we can all agree on is that no matter which one you like, it's gonna be cool as he11 to see Challengers, Camaros and Mustangs prowling the streets that look similar to the ones from back in "the day". :aok

I meant it would weigh 3000 with Rosie O'Donnell and her "Teletubbies" lunchbox.
BTW, i had a subaru WRX. It was a POS. Only car i've ever owned (beside Mercedes made Chrysler Crossfire) that had rattles. Oh and lost 2nd gear on the trans in less than a year while still bone stock. I spent tons hopping it up to STI-like performance. It was very quick but rode like crap and looked like the jap econobox it really was.

Nothing a few weekends couldn't fix by gutting the car.

The more I see of this car the more I like it. I don't see anything wrong with this so-called "retro" thing. I think a Fender Stratocaster looks as good now as it did in 1954 when it was introduced. I really wouldn't call the new Camaro "retro", I'd call it modern with a nod to the past, but for right now, with Camaros, Mustangs, and now Challengers being made they way they should be, all is right with my world...as small as it is.
-
I'm really disappointed in the new Camaro, and as such, disappointed in GM. The car is a solid 400 POUNDS to heavy, at almost 3800 pounds curb weight. The heaviest the car should have ended up is 3350 or so, wet, ready to run. That makes it too heavy to handle well, too heavy to get the fuel mileage it should, and too heavy to be as fast as it should be. A stripper V6 stick car should weigh 2900-3000 pounds. A loaded hot rod version should be at 3350 only because the V8 weighs a little more, and because the power options and crap like T-Tops weight a lot. I was hoping Chevrolet would be smart, and offer a factory race car that weighed 3000 pounds with a 400HP+ engine, and a true street version that had a stronger engine, but also had A/C and a decent stereo and weighed 3200 pounds, without power every thing and T-Tops. A Camaro paying homage to the Z-28 with a smaller V8 and a stick shift ONLY, with A/C and a stereo, along with a real serious suspension and braking system would be killer.
It's 2009, the 1969 model was considered the to be the zenith of the model, so what do you do when you're bringing the car back of the 40th anniversary of its best year?
Base model, a V6, stick or automatic, with enough gear to make it snappy, but not hurt mileage, A/C, killer stereo, optional power windows and door locks, optional T-Tops, and 16" wheels.
A real Z-28, small hot rod V8, stick shift only, A/C and stereo, stout suspension and upgraded brakes, and maybe 18" wheels.
A sport coupe model, mid size V8, stick or auto, all options above, except Z-28 options (small hot rod V8, brakes and suspension).
A bad boy, like the old 396-375, NASTY V8, say the base model Corvette engine, stick or auto, and loaded, with the option to DELETE some of the loaded stuff.
A factory race car, like the old COPO 9560 and 9561 cars. A REAL stripper, no A/C, no stereo, no power options at all, just a bad V8, and stick or auto. Make this one available with the base Corvette engine and the only option besides color and stick or auto is upgrading to the 427 Corvette engine. To buy this one, you have to have a competition license and number from a sanctioning body like NHRA, IHRA, or maybe SCCA.
THAT is how you bring out a 2009 Camaro that is supposed to be a retro tribute to the 1969 Camaro. Four mainstream option packages, and a race car package to answer Chrysler and Ford.

and that being said(very nicely written BTW) the mustang will be returned to it's status of kicking the camaro's assss.
at least the big three are attempting to build hot rods again though.
on a side note, when ford re-ignited the hot rod wars in 79, i wonder what it would've been like had chrysler jumped in with them, like they are now?

While I'm not happy with GM, Chevrolet, or the new Camaro, I'm not convinced Ford is going to mop the floor with them either.

Cars are pretty much my life, and my livelihood. I'm sitting home this weekend, I'd rather be at Indy, at the U.S. Nationals, but we just couldn't go this year. Hopefully next year we'll be in better shape, and be sure of qualifying, and have a shot at two or three class wins. I love to hunt and fish as well, and of course that being the case, I love my guns, too.

yaknow......
i REALLY wish i could disagree with that statement, but you're probably right. i'm just cocky, as i'm a ford nut.
i've owned some form or another of mustang since i've been driving. ALL OF MY 60'S stangs were slow, but they looked cool.
my 83 wasn't a bullet, as it only ran 13.8's. BUT.....stock to stock, i never lost to a camaro. once i modified it, i never lost to a similarily modded camaro.
my 89..same.....stock to stock......stang hands down. modified with bolt on;s, she ran into the 12.2 range at 117mph, averaged 24mpg. never lost to a similarily modded camaro.
i DID however lose to a bone stock saturn as it kissed my stang on the nose.....and that sucked bigtime.
i really hope these guys(ford gm chrysler) do good jobs building these factory hot rods. i think we don't have to worry about kids in them, as it seems that they're aimed at us 40 something's. :rock :D

Ford WILL build some nice pieces. GM is actually more likely to drop the ball. It seems they always take a while to get caught up, and this time is no different. In fact, GM has ALREADY dropped the ball. That's as much as I can say about that. But I expect they'll recover their fumble, albeit as slowly as always.

I don't know about the big muslce range you guys are talking about but as far as the performance sedan range goes Ford US is looking at our (Australian) XR range for tinkering over there.
Apparently Ford US is losing out big time in the sedan market and are looking to give you guys more of what you want. I don't know what the deal with the engines will be as I don't know where yours will be made but I think they're a pretty nice car.
The trick with these is that a lightly modified XR6 turbo (turbocharged 4.0L inline) will comfortably make more power than the XR8 version which is more expensive.
They've proven to be very popular over here and I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one. Comfortable daily driver with plenty of power and a solid, reliable engine.

that looks like a cross between a mustang and a taurus :D

As for the weight of the Camaro, I'd like to see it brought down some more but I don't know how much they could without turning it into a Cooper Mini. The Z06 is rated right at 3300 lbs., the Camaro at 3800, while the Challenger SRT8 is over 4100 lbs. I'll take 3800 over 4100 any day of the week.
Also, I don't blame GM for hedging their bets with the new Camaro, gas prices and all, and the finicky nature of car buyers. For the first year of an all new car being conservative is a safe bet for GM. If the Camaro takes off, and i'm sure it will, look for a broadening of engines and models available. I think the LT, LS, and SS model badges are TEH GAY but that is the Chevy modus operandi at the moment for all car models.
I know going back to at least the 3Gen of F-body's there has been the 1LE option which, I am sure you well know, was the stripped down road racing option available to anyone. It was basically an AC/Stereo/Unneeded options delete option. They are failrly collectible today.
As I stated earlier though, I don't really consider the new Camaro a complete tribute to the mighty '69, it more or less nods its head towards it, but I think that if the new Camaro sells well consistantly over it's first 3 or 4 years, and that's the key, you'll see a bunch of refinements and options added to it. At least you have a choice of more than 3 or 4 colors unlike the 08 & 09 Challenger SRT8; colors for this years Challenger, a whopping 4 to choose from in 09.

see....to me, this is the best looking camaro since the 69. i'm not really a chevy nut, but i do like most of the 60's hot rods.
the biggest thing wrong with this, is that chevy is a bit late in getting it to market. as i mentioned earlier, chrysler, and chevy are really following fords lead. they saw that ford went a bit retro(i think aiming at us older folks), saw that it's working well for ford, so now they're scrambling to get in on the action. just like in the 60's. 64 1/2 was the first mustang. 66 they made her better, and in 67, ford added the FE block to the lineup. 67 is when chevy finally got the camaro online, and the rivalry started. in the 70's insurance, and a gas shortage(go figure, right?) pretty much killed the factory hot rods. they all pretty much became big fat decal laden POS's. this includes the corvetes(sorry vette nuts) 79 ford re-designs the mustang, 82 they ressurrect the gt, and re-ignite the performance wars.
chevy was a bit quicker on the draw, as i think i remember some pretty nice camaros from 83 and on. ford dropped the ball in 95 or 96, and built a slow over priced stang, while chevy kicked asss and the camaro was cheap(relativly) and VERY quick. then, chevy drops the ball and discontinues the camaro. now ford goes retro, and lo and behold, here'schrysler copying....and a couple years late, chevy.
as much as i like my fords, i do absolutley love the lines of the new camaro. i only hope that chevy brings its performance up to match the fords, and chryslers....and to mathc the looks of the car. it will sell well for a few years if they can do that.

According to my research, yes, those are curb weights. As for Chevy playing catch up, that's been their modus operandi for quite some time. Ford hit the proverbial "one out of the park" with retro Mustang and well they should, it's a winner. Chrysler and GM saw this as a good thing and went to work on their replies to this Ford home run. As for retro, it's all good. To me they could have made the '69 Camaro for the last 40 years, much as Porsche has made the 911 more or less the same for the last 40 years, but American car companies are all about fresh and exciting, for the most part. And, like I said, it's a good time to be a car fan, with the big 3 making pony cars now. It's very easy to focus on the negative and stay on it rather than try to admire the positives. I'll stick with the positives.

I really want one of those Dodge Challengers... better start saving. Anyone need their car washed?
-
Are you any good at polishing knobs?

It can be a happy ending car wash if the price is right... :D
