Like they used to have. I think this idea would be worth trying because dont you wonder who it is who's BnZ'ing you? OR dont you want to know who your chasing down but ya just cant catch him. i say why not. how about you?
-
you figure it out after you die
-
I have quite the opposite opinion.
I believe if you shoot down something, you should see "Spit16 destroyed #2" or the like, and "You have been shot down"
It might make it more about the airplanes and the history and less about the egos and discourage grown men from p.m.ing each other to pursefight and otherwise act like ill-bred 8 year olds.

I agree with that 100%.

gee I guess alt+r no longer works.

Or people are just beyond the laziness you thought possible and can't press 2 simple keys. :rofl

i 2nd this agreement

Much better idea.
The first suggestion would not work at all. If you for some reason have a reputation (good or bad) in the game it would mean that you get treated differently than the other red dots and could actually get harrassed pretty badly and ruining the game for the player.
-
I most definitely agree with not having names displayed for kills/deaths or icons in-flight. I grow weary of all the crap flung across the text buffer. Perhaps the would-be crap flingers might spend their time either trying to figure out who that other airplane was (instead of going off on 200 about the other pilot), or realize it's just a game and quietly re-up and try again (for those who got killed) or quietly move on to the next engagement (for those who did the killing).
Too many people make this game too personal.
-
ShrkBite, think about it a little while. If you saw the name of the person running wouldn't you (and most likely everyone else) be enticed to flame the pilot running or BnZ'ing? Because of this major side-effect I don't see why HTC would even want to try to implement this feature.
I'm adding another, "no," to this request.
-
I think no "name in lights" period. I dont think you should know who u just shot down, or who just shot u down.
The only identity that should be seen is those of your teammates while in the game. That is it.
-
You need a break from the game.
Come over here, sit down, and breathe. Don't worry! Just because your 262 got BnZ'ed doesn't mean you can't get your perks back.

Indeed peoples SA will then consist of eliminating what they consider "the biggest threat" by name rather than plane type and Energy state.
Having numerous guys pile it on just because its you isnt cool. I much prefer the AH slightly more incognito method.
The plane type idea for a kill message sounds ok. Then there is the flipside. There are positive points towards knowing who killed you because the civil types can then discuss the fight or know who to salute. Do we really want a cold heartless community or one that has some banter and interaction good or bad?
-
Like they used to have....
When was that?
As with others.. I think knowing who the enemy is would be far too big of a distraction.
-
im not opposed or in favor of this. but if i had a rivalry against a pilot i would have my whole squad target him.
-
Do we really want a cold heartless community
Yes.
(The central reason I pay $15 a month to play this is the fact that all AIs in offline sims are shockingly predictable, and the combat with them one way or another is never as random, chaotic, or historical as it is online. Also, AH has the best viewing system of any combat flight sim, and that is "where its at" for a combat flight sim.)

Hello Bronk,
This key displays who is flying the plane you selected? Your information is appreciated.

:lol
Alt + R = Record. When you go view your recorded film it tells you who is within 20 K of your plane in the footage.

Total Duh on my part! I thought it was a real time thing (opens mouth, inserts copious amounts of coffee).

ill agree to this as a while back bruv and sveno were just of a base waited for uppers which i did. now 5-6 times i got killed by 1 or the other and after a while i PMed bruv and asked what i was doing wrong and had a convo for a few mins.
another time i was in a 1v2 (my 51d v spit 16 and a f4u?) i did very well in the fight lasting several mins and i was pretty chuffed with how i flew (i died BTW with out a kill) i had a long convo after that with 1 of the cons.

Id love to find out which LA7 pacerr is in amongst the hord.

I don't think that's a side effect, I think that's what he wanted.
In either case, no thanks.
-
if you had a "good" fight with someone then maybe show who shot you down, or who you shot down. like a 3 minute fight would be considered a "good" fight.
-
just for the record....i dont fly and die and get pissed off much at the game just because some vanscrew shot my 262. the idea was more to a positive flying way. But most of your points are true and im pretty sure this idea will not pass because of the people taking the game much to serious. Thanks for your opinion guys! <S>!

For all the many reasons that have been listed showing who's piloting the enemy plane is a bad, bad idea.
However, I have to disagree with those who want to go to the opposite extreme, and eliminate the post-mortems as well. Part of what makes flight sims enjoyable is the sense of camaraderie, and you would certain amount of that if the enemy players were completely anonymous.

Agreed :aok.........if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Not posting the names "x player shot you down" would definately stop the PM's I've been getting lately. :aok

No.

As a non-expert, when I get killed 3 or 4 times in a row by the likes of Lynx or Bruv, I move somewhere else. Part of the enjoyment of the game, at least for me, is having a balanced fight. I don't enjoy one-sided victories, AFK kills, or getting totally out-flown consistently. Sure, it makes me want to get better, but a guy can get his headed handed to him just so many times before the fun stops.
I think it's ok where it is...but I wouldn't object to being able to turn it on or off (the post-mortems).

TO make it more realistic, remove the names from planes altogether and make each team fly by the plane markings. There was no "clip board map radar BS" in ww2.

.

I agree with no names shown after kill...
That way I can pretend every guy I shoot down is some high ranker like SHawk or Steve :D :D :D

You do realize how many people wouldn't play the game because of the immense challenges that would arise?
This game runs on funds. No funds, no game. And if you're going to make the game that much more difficult to play you might as well kiss your business good-bye.

until you get raked by 20's from a CHog, and see one of them on 200 ranting about how they owned your Fm2 :lol

Also how would you tell without icons that the incoming spitfire is a friend or foe?
Unlike the real world where ally planes were friendly and axis were foes (or vice versa), in here both types are flown by all countries AND there are no BISH/KNIT/ROOK markings on the planes.
Like I said earlier.......if it ain't broke don't fix it.

More than that...computer screens simply CAN'T render detail and depth to match the real world. Not while simultaneously giving you a good FOV for practical looking-about in a flight sim. If you had a massive monitor at unreal resolutions, AND had your zoom cranked up to max to look at a con 1K away, you MIGHT stand a chance of telling whether that is a "Spit" or a "109"...but this is impractical for obvious reasons. And when not in zoomed view, on a smaller monitor with less resolution, you probably couldn't tell at 400.

i can tell a 109 from a spit 1k out, its hard, and im only on a 14" screen i think. Im not saying everyone can do it, but im just saying that with the right eye, you can do it. however doing it just to tell the plane so you know wether or not to shoot is impractical, as you or hazard said. In the AvA its a different story, turn icons off and you can tell friend from foe, hopefully.
