For the first time since the 70's I saw "Sorry, we're out of gas" signs starting last night... Time to club a few environazis
-
Was this in Texas?
-
nope, South Carolina... Had to wait 30 minutes in line with a $20 limit... all grades sold out except premium... it is because of the texas refinery shutdown in advance of the hurricane... Time to build many many new refineries!
-
I didn't eat for 24 hours once and I was out of gas.

What's wrong with you? I never run out of gas, to my wife's eternal dismay. :rock :D
-
I hope this will be resolved shortly as gas prices have risen 65+ cents per gallon in 3 days locally
-
The prices here in South GA have went up 50cents in the last 5 hours. Most places are out of REG. Plus, and only have Premium left.
Premium is 4.30 gal.

Can you pump your own gas there yet? Or does the attendant still have to do it by law?
-

legally, i have to let the illegal guy do it. if i have my dakota, or my bike though, i pump my own.....
-
Illegal guy! I believe that!

Such local supply disruptions due to localized events could be mostly avoided, if states would get together and agree on a common formulation for gasoline. Here is one of the few areas where Federal leadership might be exercised to the common good (iffy, but possible). That way, gasoline supply would be easily transferable from one area of the country to another. Imagine the chaos if each state had their own standards for electricity generation and transmission? California would be even more hosed than it currently is.

They don't wash our windshields anymore :furious

Just got off the phone with my wife who used to work at a gas station/convenience store. The manager still likes her and calls her with info. She said that the gas is jumping from $3.59/gal here to around $6.00/gal tomorrow morning, so fill up tonight.

A jump of almost 100% in price would certainly make the news nationally. If this happens please provide a link to a publication running the story.

-
Just said on the news that oil prices have dropped below $100.00 a barrel.
and yet the prices of gas goes up. wonder if they're gonna tell us the dollar is weak? or maybe ike sunk all of the refineries in the gulf??
-
look, the only solution is to expand drilling and build many new refineries that will have the capacity to cover the stoppage caused by future calamities... Oh and the oil companies are not doing this it is in the hands of the hedge fund/speculator crowd and a few dishonest, opportunistic station owners
-
Danville VA. still showing prices ranging from $3.45 to $4.29. The last is the highest in town, not the average of $3.66.
Just curious, if you are reporting high price somewhere let us know the name of the city or town then we can look online to see prices and the range.

when i quote the pumps where my shop is, they're middle of the road on price...right now, 3.25. the 3.21 i quoted is around the corner from my house about 8 miles away.

They can build one in my living room if they'll drop the price back under 2$ where it belongs.
-
I live in Martinsville, VA (next door to Danville), our gas is currently $3.82/gal but good luck getting in line. I just drove thru the area looking around and it's a mad house, every gas station is jammed packed with cars to the point that it's snarling traffic around them. I did see some signs stating that you could only buy 3-5 gallons and that they were out of regular. The news reported that tomorrow morning it'll be $6.00/gal here which is unheard of around these parts. Even during the summer gas only -just- peaked above $4 but most remained at $3.50ish.
-
Beefey!
WAZZUP!??
Still flyin that buff nekkid?
-
Well today i went to gas my car and there were long bellybutton lines..checked 3 other pumps some were out.
dont know what the heck is going on so I found a station i could gas on and fill'd er up.
-
Can you pump your own gas there yet? Or does the attendant still have to do it by law?
nope. but I have no real interest in being forced to pump my own gas.
I'd rather have the servant do it.
Especially on days like today when it was pouring rain.
I got to sit all comfy cozy and dry and let someone else do it.
Not only do we let servants pump gas for us.
But we typically get to pay less for gas then most of the country too.
So in reality. At least on that front we get more for less.
I admit there are rare occasions when I would just as soon pump it myself.
But really those days are rare.
Usually I pull up hand the guy my card. Tell him how much, then go inside and buy something to drink or a pack of smokes.
come back out, he hands me the card and a receipt and off I go.
Or I sit in the car and go over some paperwork.
No muss no fuss.
Only the little people pump their own gas :rock
;)

where the hell do you live in NJ where a gas station 8 miles away you consider to be "around the corner" from your house?
LOL I can find a gas station in a mile or less damn near any direction I head from my house.
Havent checked the prices of gas today though

I was with my dad yesterday and we stoped to get gas, he started pumping and about 10 gallons in the pump slowed down, then stopped, but the tank wasn't full, so he went inside to ask the attendant, the attendant thought that our tank was just full, so my dad pulled the pump out of the tank and pull the handle, and nothing came out, so they said that the tanks must be empty then.

You know, I'd be angry if I had to legally let someone pump my gas...
If it were not for some of the best gas prices in the land. It must drive those socialists crazy with the gas taxes so low.
-
I'd stand there and watch just to make sure they didn't screw up my car LOL. I don't like people touching my car unless I know them. What is the reason for that law Drediock?

well, here would be my problem if they made us pump our own here in nj......
99% of gas station attendents are indians. i think about 60-70% of them are on temp. work visas. i think the rest are quite possibly illegally here.
now all of these gus are suddenly out of work. trying to collect unemployment. bad thing.
besides, like dred said.......when it's pouring rain, i ain't gettin out of my car to pump.

Update, the gas station (cheapest in town) that was 3.21 earlier this week is 5.29 today... (gregs gas plus - north augusta, sc) I am going to take a camera with me next time i go that way.
-
Used to live in Martinez. I delivered furniture part time at the Grovetown Bargain center.
Gas seems steady here at $3.999. It jumped thirty cents then stuck.
-

-
Back home in Michigan. I was stationed at Ft. Gordon for three years.
-
ahhhh ok... we are being pummeled here, fortunately, i dont drive as far for work as i used to.

"At least 13 refineries in Texas shut down as Ike approached. Gulf Coast refineries and ports are the source of about 50 percent of the fuel and crude used in the eastern half of the U.S. Plants operated by Exxon Mobil Corp., Valero Energy Corp., ConocoPhillips and Royal Dutch Shell Plc were affected.
Gasoline shortages may occur across the southern U.S. up to Washington because of the closures caused by Hurricane Gustav and now Ike, Kevin Kolevar, assistant secretary for electricity delivery and energy reliability at the U.S. Department of Energy, said on a conference call yesterday"

this would be proof in favor of new drilling, new refineries, and alternative energy ALL being necessary.

damn right

o yea......if it happens to be in someones back yard, and they fight it, move their asssses out of there, and help them live an oil free life........no modern anything for them..........

I have little to no interest whatsoever in pumping my own gas
I do agree it shouldnt be a law though
Oh BTW. Went out today. Gas prices jumped 10 cents over yesterday to $3.49
One law we have here I do agree with though.
Legally gas stations are only allowed to change their prices once per day

I've been to WV. Though ths was quite a few years ago.
The trucks that deliver the gas should be charging y'all an extra $2 per gallon just for driving on some of those mountain roads.
Or at least "roads" is what they called them.
Suicide paths are more like it LOL
-
CNN has been carrying the story about the rise in gas prices in various areas. I doubt that any gouging will be tollerated in the investigations. Nice to see some folks are actually paying attention to the situation.

Yes those are the suicide paths, that is why the have the anti-suicide ramps algon the side of the road. I have seen a few trucks up in them. BTW, it isnt easy driving on our roads at night when it is raining, because we dont use the flourescent paint for the lines like everyone else does.
-
I live in Northern Louisiana and we have a couple of stations that jumped up to $4.00 a gallon, BUT the Exxon stations in town only went up 10 to 15 cents agallon. Cheapest is $3.68.
I find it odd that the stations that sell the cheap grade gas have made major jumps.

Martinsville!!!!!! This doesn't apply here, but my buddy was the asst. coach for the Mustangs this year, I went up there a few times to see them.
South Boston, the opposite side of Danville around $3.79/gal or more and that's if they have gas.

I can't remember ever seeing someone here in Colorado pump my gas for me, and I've lived here 20 years now. Just a guess, but I'd say the only reason you aren't pumping it yourself is because there is a law saying you can't.

Average in Columbia, SC is 4.16 which is unusual because SC normally has the lowest average in the US.

Did my Basic and AIT at Ft. Jackson. I remember Columbia as a very hospitable town. Lots of fun weekend passes there...

$4.00/gal here when you can find gas. YES, we are STILL having problems with our gas supply, none could be found last night within 15 miles after I was lucky enough to get 6 gallons of gas after waiting in line one hour and six minutes.
-
I'm all for electric cars and nukes to juice them up.
Wish I could ship you some gas there in the Southeast.
I just filled up today for $3.61/gallon, and no lines here in Austin.

-
I saw a low of $3.61 in Cody WY. last week and it's averaging $3.70 here in Thermopolis WY. I'm finally seeing diesel below $4.00 almost everywhere now. I hope it gets down to $3.00 or even less but I'm not going to hold my breath.
-
Plenty of gas here in the Houston area.
