Title: Update
Post by: Rino on September 17, 2008, 01:02:54 PM
I don't mind getting dumped out of my sherman with absolutely no warning, but the update message
followed by no update is very aggravating.

- if you have vista, did you install both game and hires pack: "run as administrator"?

Ok i have tried to bite my tongue but i cannot.  With all due respect and treading lightly... I appreciate the work HTC does and still very much enjoy the game after all these years... but why have we only had the T34/85 added in the last half year since the last update, when the update before we had 4 new items added?  Hidden CT work maybe?  Multi screen support was a lot of trouble?  Would love to know.

See here from another thread:

We're looking at ways to implement that style of play into something that we can host on our servers.

I tried the new 262 out today.

Ripped the wings off twice, which I've never done before, ever.  Maybe I'm just extra dweeby today, who knows.  The canopy framing really obscures the forward view, so I regretfully prefer the old cockpit.

What exactly does this mean?  "Ostwind and Wirbelwind track damage is no longer reversed."

Also, "You can now rearm your own bomber when you take drones. Note that if you still have surviving drones when you rearm, they will neither rearm nor take off again."  Will the drones count as a succesful landings or will they sit there waiting to be shot while you're away?  If they sit there will they be succesful landings once you land, even if at another airfield?

I'm with Furball on this.  I've never cried about when this or that is coming out, always been appreciative of the fine product HTC gives us, but frankly I'm very dissapointed with this new update.

Unless there is an all out effort to finally finish Combat Tour (I pray so), there just can't be an explanation why in 6 months we get virtually nothing new.  Basically just a turret on a tank, a cool new tri-monitor setup that ony a handfull can use, and some basic bug fixes.  It just doesn't add up to me, unless CT is taking full priority.  But since we haven't seen or heard anything about CT in years, who knows...

I've always given HTC the benefit of the doubt, but I'm starting to wane on that...

Just a simple update on the progress of CT would do it for me though.

As far as I'm concerned, the widescreen support is the most important element of this update.

I doubt it was straight forward to implement, but most monitors are widescreen these days and its going to be a great improvement for many of us. I don't see this as an insignificant patch.

I believe they blow up once you reach a certain distance from them, still.

I have a hard time getting out of the IL-2 now.
It's not only sexy now, those 37mm cannons... oh my... I can't even explain the awesome.
One thing, the bombs available for the IL-2 are only 4 100kg bombs. What happened to the other 200kg worth of bombs?
Not a huge concern of mine, just curious.

Oh yes...

I bought a widescreen monitor as soon as I heard they'd start to support it, and spent the past month or so missing a good chunk of my view...  I was losing sight of enemies that, from experience, I knew I shouldn't be losing.  It was very frustrating.

Now that shouldn't be an issue :)

You might not notice it if you've always flown with a widescreen, but trust me, you're better off with it being supported.

Whew.  Now that we've finished with the update and subsequent CTD crushing, we're back to concentrating on Combat Tour.

All the major systems are in place (i.e. AI, promotions/demotions, character attribute point effects, scoring, medal awarding, etc) so we're now onto polishing, refining, and  debugging them.

Pyro is currently designing detailed training missions that include voice instructions, graphic pointers, cue cards for non-english speakers (but can read more easily), and HUD feedback among other effects.  You'd be surprised at how hard it is to do a proper landing.

I'm currently putting together regular-play missions.  These include graphic maps of the country and the routes to be taken, voice instructions from the Operations Officer, and in-flight directions from HQ.  Hint: better make sure you keep an eye on your fuel consumption.

Superfly is working on more varied targets than you see in the MA like sub-pens and dams.  Also, the terrain is being populated with the actual cities found on the continent.  This, in turn, allows us to design more and varied missions with interesting objectives.

As we progress all of us are having to refine code and art.  We will be running the alpha testers through the missions as we create them and using their feedback to make sure we put out only engaging, white-knuckled and fun missions.

PS  Please God, don't make me read a 'when' question.

Title: Re: Update

These threads crack me up.  HTC makes things more correct for current planes and because those changes limit a specific view when the prior incorrect view was "better"... they whine to have the incorrect view back.  Funny stuff.  If it makes things more true to the original... then so bit it.   :salute

Yeah, I would like to even more planes be added as there are some holes in the catalog, but HTC has plenty of irons in the fire.  More will be added as time goes on.  Patience is virtue.  Instead of whining, step out of teh 16, Nik2, Lala, and pony and go try some of the less-uber planes and prentend they are something new.

Personally, I'd like to see more variants of the planes we already have.  That would easiest for HTC to the game.  More Mossi variants, more M3/M4 gv variants (priest, M3 w/ 75mm inf gun, etc), Ju87G, Fw190F-8/U3 (U3 had a bomb side), Boston Mk4 or Mk6 (heavier bomb load w/ bomb sight), P40N, etc, etc.  There are many aircraft that we already have in the game that have outstanding variants that are missing.  That would be the easiest for HTC to add to the game, IMO.

I took the new IL-2 out for a test run and love the 37mm guns. I dont know what the specs are on them but I took a Sherman out with a quick burst.

The new T34/85 looks like a great tank. I only fired the big gun in practice but it feels like an 88 going off. This is going to be a terrific raider tank with its speed.

The Hellcat was a dissapointment. What can I say?

The WS support is terrific. I agree its the most important part of the update.

I love the widescreen support. Everything now looks in focus. The only down side is now parts of the instrument panel are cut off.

I also like the new T34/85. It's nice but not worthy as a perk ride. It seems to loose it's tracks or turret with ease. The old T34 can take a lot more punishment.

All in all, A big  :salute to the HTC staff.
