With all the talk of democrats being in panic mode; the latest polls ought to calm them down. Obama is back in the lead of the national polls.
What will the McCain Campaign be doing to make him look like a stronger choice for the economies sake, seeing how that is issue number 1?

Thats what I say.
My biggest fear is one of the two will eventually win this election
No matter what way you slice it.
This isnt like one of them is a Governor. Or some rich old guy who managed to put up enough money to get himself put on the ballot.
Neither of which would have had much if any control or say over anything our national government did.
As I've said in another thread.
What we have is two of the very people responsible for how screwed up our government now standing before us and asking us for a promotion!
This is like a rape victim thanking the rapist for raping them. And giving them a job.
And what we have are people actually willing to support and vote for either of them!!
Be it because they actually believe their individual lines of BS.
Because they think their guy will be "less bad"
Or just because they are either out front about it or in the closet (rah rah)"Team players" Which would account for close to the majority.
Man. Talk about your wasted votes.
No matter who gets elected all we are going to end up with is more of the same crap for another 4 years just like the crap we've had for the last 40.
The only thing thats gonna "change"
Is the name on the signatures.

Relax ladies.
McCain still has the real lead for the moment.

Sweet, PA's tied now! :rock
I was hoping we were going to go red this election, but we've been 'barely democrat' up to this point.

They show Michigan as being light blue. I predict Michigan to go red for the first time since, I don't know when...

Illinois is the light(er) shade of blue as well. Kinda funny.

Good idea, lull the demodummies into a false sense of security, then whammo! It was so much fun watching them walk around like stoned zombies after Bush beat Kerry. :D :aok
-
Yup! Fun thing is, normal workin Americans ain't been polled yet. They'll hear from us on election day.

This election isnt over yet by a longshot.
I expect that electoral map will change leads at least once or twice more before its all over with.
Of one thing I am absolutely 1,000% certain.
No matter which side wins.
We're going to see the other side whining like little spoiled brat crybabies for the next 4-8 years.
I havent seen a single thing on these boards, anywhere else online. Or IRL
That would indicate that the right would show any more class. Or be any better, more honorable, or respectable loosers then the left has proven themselves to be.
But rather will be every single bit as bad
I am in complete agreement with Phil Gramm when he said we have "become a nation of whiners".
Only I wouldnt limit that statement to only the economy. But rather it be all inclusive.

Suck it up, Dred... it'll be worse than that. ;)

Polls are never accurate. Just look back to the 1980 race. It was a close race according to the poll results. How many states did Carter carry?

curious
is there a chart available that shows the percentage of federal taxes paid per state - or even better, broken down to red / blue states?
looking at that map, looks to me like --because of population - blue states probably fund the usa coffers 60 to 75 %....
funny..

CA gets around 75-80 cents on the dollar it sends to D.C.
-
Just because they may have more population doesn't mean all of them are contributing to the welfare of the country. Just think how many of them are actually mooching off the government.
-
Uhhh, yeah, blue states are full of moochers.
I've seen both sides of the coin, and it's about the same.
The blue states fund the country, the red states elect the president.
-
Without looking I'd wager the blue states have far more people living off the government teat than the red states.
-
no.... really? yah think so?
careful, the liberal weenies will call yah a racist!
-
There is only one poll that actually matters.

may be true...but is there any chart available that someone knows about - or is it just - slam ...ignore...slam..
but actually I think the percentage of population on the government teat is in the south... plus farm subsidies...and such... welfare and social security ssi - definitely an urban thing.. but percentage wise..i bet it is more even than anyone may realize..

Do you call SkyRock out on things like this?
-

Exactly why I go by that site instead of the national polls
The national represent how the general election (popular vote) might go.
As we all know that's not how it works
The site I use represents how the voting might go in each state (the electoral College)
which is the only poll that will matter on election day.
You can better tell how your candidate is doing on this site then by national polls
There are reasons why candidates visit some states more then others
Its pointless to spend alot of time and money campaigning in dark blue or red states. Particularly as the election draws nearer.
and particularly if those states carry only a few electoral votes.
That time and money is better spent in "weak","barely" & "tied" states.
As the election draws near. You can expect both candidates to start making more trips to these states.
Obamas rise in the polls recently is reflected in this map over the other day.
It shows Obama gaining ground.
But for the moment McCain still has the (shrinking) lead

Don't understand your question and how it relates.

I'm pretty sure TN has the highest number of welfare recepients per capita and by the above map they are solid red.

Dred
One funny thing off of that site
http://www.electoral-vote.com/
"Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) Gets Both Nominations
One seat the Republicans won't get is VT-AL. They didn't bother to put up a candidate to oppose Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) in their primary, but apparently some Republicans liked him, so they wrote in his name. Enough people did this so that he won the Republican nomination as well as the Democratic nomination and will oppose himself in November. Either way, he will win and lose."
Cool site
I like the neutral ground they take
-
Just looked for per capita stats and can't find any.
-
Here's one from 2005-2006 : http://www.ppinys.org/reports/jtf/welfarespending.htm (http://www.ppinys.org/reports/jtf/welfarespending.htm)
-
Someone found the info and posted it in a thread elsewhere. I go looking for it.
-edit- I was ninja'd
And that wasn't the same list so now I need to go find the other one that someone posted to compare what statistics were actually being used.
-
Total spending per capita is not the same as highest number of people on welfare per capita.
New York spends more per capita but that doesn't mean they have more people on welfare than some other state. New York does pay each person a lot; I saw a blurb when I was looking that said that someone on welfare in New York would have to get a job at $45k/year before they would make more than they make on welfare.
-
What happens to those numbers when you factor in cost of living? Cost of living in New York (not just the city, but the state as a whole) is higher than say here in NC.
It would be a factor as well I guess.
-
Exactly. Need a chart that just shows number of people on welfare per 100K or something like that.

With D.C. and Guam above, which I suggest we ignore as non-states. Funny that RI is above it, didn't expect that.

About RI? How so? I've honestly never been and don't know much about it besides it being tiny.

I live in the Peoples Republic of RI. Providence is a sanctuary city, although not official listed as such. Although the Governor is trying to change it. Free this and that with no questions asked about citizenship. Providence should be renamed North Gautama.
-
Providence... Little Frisco? Gay Capital of the NE? Liberal Sanctuary?
Say it ain't so!! ;)
Gawd, it's bad enuff with Fire Island and the Hamptons out here.. must be hell up thar.

you poor bastard.
*sigh*
sucks to be me, too.

Fortunately I do not live in providence. However Providence is the biggest receiver of State aid. So I get shafted with part of the bill anyway.
-
They lever that tranny dildo up to gov and the next big sucking sound you'll hear will be the little probe being yanked out to make room for the big one.
-
interesting stats though..
per capita & per federal monies taxed, & spent
what states get the most per amount actually collected..in that state
looks like the red teat gets a large workout load.. no matter which chart looked at
Surprised after looking at those that the democratic party doesn't use that in ads

Newbie I'll give part of the blame to the feds... However the Providence chief refuses to computerize the verification system. The Mayor could easily have ordered him to use it but he won't. Just like the Governor has done with the state police.

The governor here in Illinois ordered the bus system in chicago to give free rides to seniors
The mayor said - lotsa money - who is paying for it
the governor said it will work itself out
bus system losing thousands daily
Mayor says -- well ask the gov... he said it will work itself out
Governor blames the mayor
its easy to blame the mayor - until he needs to say - need to raise the taxes to pay for this computer software system --which will require lots of man hours, need to enter all that data for the last --20 or so years - i would guess-- and of course all the software and support
my guess you would vote against it...

It's supplied by the feds.
Edit: Ohh and if it wasn't supplied by the feds you bet your arse I'd vote yes. Gee getting violent criminal illegals out or another welfare program hmmm let me think.

Makes no sense then if the feds would pay for it... mayors jump on federal money the second it is flashed in front of their eyes..
You are a rarity in a city then... anytime a referendum is up ...most likely the chances are it will fail..no one likes to pay for services and actually have to pay for them
-

Yea great job. :aok
As of 2007, Providence had its lowest crime rate in 30 years, contrary to national trends. Although very unfortunate, it is not representative of the job he's doing. :aok
