I would like this thread be devoted to DJ Girl Talk. Over the past month I have been exposed to his wonderful music. His style mixes the old with the new and creates a very unique sound. He is coming to town on Friday (Jan 9) to perform a show. Unfortunately, the tickets sold out one month before the show and I wasn't able to get one :cry His act is sweeping the nation. I keep my fingers crossed that he doesn't get into any legal troubles.
Anyways, what do you peeps think of Girl Talk?

You can download the album for free on his Myspace page. Just type in zero for the price you are willing to pay and it will download automatically. It has cover art for iTunes and no spy ware. Here is the link to the download.

:rofl you like that crap?
-
One cannot remix crap into something more than crap. For it is made of crap and will always be crap.
-
disagree, i use to DJ and find this to be interesting at the very least. Of course i had to use vinyl but still not easy and takes a creative mind to throw this stuff together.
-
C'mon 24, this is bad, even for you...
6/10 for working to your trolling potential
2/10 on this particular troll
10/10 for your uncanny ability to find the absolutely most ridiculous sounding crap and post it here. :aok
-
You post more sucky threads than everyone else combined. This one is no exception.

Y oh y did I actually even look at this thread. Some one said it takes talent to be a DJ. I believe them. It also takes talent to dig a ditch.
In the funny picture thread there is a graph showing what's on a teenage girls computer. There was a small sliver showing "music". Now I see why.

I think we know whos computer that really was. :D

You guys wouldn't know good music if it slapped you in the face.
I bet most of you still strictly listen to classic rock and oldies stations. How many times can you listen to "Freebird", what about going out and finding new current artists. What about googling your local music venue and seeing who is coming and when. Good music is easy to find these days with the internet and myspace.
Girl Talk has sold out almost every venue last year and into this year. His tickets are reasonable and you are guaranteed to have a great time. The audience is encouraged to join him on stage while he does his thing. His energy is constant and he is passionate about what he does. Girl Talk has had over 5 million hits to his myspace page. He is becoming main stream among the younger generation in this country.

I started to go there but left it alone.

Everyone has a different taste. I do agree with you on the oldies. Heck even Nirvana is old now. I mean I can't listen to Stairway To Heaven one more time. If it's on I turn it off or to another station and I use to love that song. Most of the songs I download are oldies that are not overplayed. I would like some new music but gosh, Rap, lip synchers, etc. are not my thing. My newest album is by Tom Petty and pretty much listen to the song "I don't scare easy".
There was a superbowl about 3 or 4 years ago where Paul McCartney was the half time show. He received a bad review about it. Saying he was old and out of it. A woman I work with told me about it. I just said, "What do you expect from the lip synch generation". She laughed and said true. I thought the show was good btw. Now this guy is lip synching too. Not with a voice but with music. Funny thing is he is doing it with oldies.
-
I have to listen to that crap all day at work. I'm not listening to it willingly at home.
-
Sorry 24...Id rather watch someone play air guitar or listen to karoke. Seeing him fiddle with the pc on stage was really cheesy.
-
This guy seems ok, never heard anyone mix songs like those together, personally I like Dj Green Lantern better.
-
Huh, I thought this was like Car Talk, where you ask girls questions, and they give you answers...so you stopped your obsession with the Jonas Bros. now?

just awful, media dribble for children.

I watched for like 5 mins and kept hoping a cartoon P-38 would come zooming by and blow up Girl Talks head.
Is that, like, music? Dude?
Girl Talk like sucks Dude. Seriously sucks.

What is your reasonining? Do you not like rap? If you dont like Rap then you surely won't like girl talk. But there is talent there. His stuff is live. His laptop is his instrument.

As much as I dont like rap I like it better then watching some whiteboy, whose mommie obviously had to much lead in her breast milk, prance around a stage acting like a rap artist with a Macbook. I grew up with actual music, "yaknow the kind where people spend lifetimes learning an instrument", and Girl Talk just doesn't rate. Right now my 15yo is playing Mozart on the Baby Grand I bought him. He goes to a special music HS and has been playing since he was 5yo.
Thats music Dude. I'm sorry but Girl Talk just struck out with this middle aged cartoon pilot. In my day boys didn't call themselves "girls" no how. :huh

Music is music, who cares how long they have or haven't been playing whatever they play. 46 year olds like yourself obviously aren't open to anything new. As far as "Girl Talk" goes he is a former biomedical engineeriing student who decided he wanted to focus on music instead.
In my opinion his laptop is his instrument. He manipulates sounds and arranges them the way he feels. To take a sample of someone's music and transform it into a totally new sound is pretty unique. Laptop's are more used in today's music than ever before. Music must transform and this is where it's headed.
As much as I dont like rap I like it better then watching some whiteboy, whose mommie obviously had to much lead in her breast milk, prance around a stage acting like a rap artist with a Macbook.
Listen to the dude talk, he isn't an idiot. Seems like a guy who loves what he does and just wants everyone to have a good time. Do you have to like his music? I could care less. I just think people, like yourself, don't give artists like Girl Talk the respect they deserve.

I have to hand it to you twenty, you are right! That dude IS kinda cute in a man-bear kind of way!

im at a lose for words, somewhere in between insulting to musicians, and stupidity.

Dude.....it's a bloody DJ. He's NOT an artist as such. Without those that actually make the music this guy would be ****ed.
Another guise on the Emperors new cloths.

Dude, like I'm not actually 46yo Dude. I made the name up 4 years ago and never got around to changing it. Tho I suppose I should once a year yaknow? Dude?
In my opinion his laptop is his instrument. He manipulates sounds and arranges them the way he feels. To take a sample of someone's music and transform it into a totally new sound is pretty unique. I just took my morning glory Dude. I suppose the accompanying noise could also be called music since it involved the exhalation of gas into a man made implement. While its not generally unique I guess each persons is different, plug a Macbook into the picture and we could call it "Ultimate Butt Talk" and let it share the stage with your boy.
Listen to the dude talk, he isn't an idiot. Seems like a guy who loves what he does and just wants everyone to have a good time. Do you have to like his music? I could care less. I just think people, like yourself, don't give artists like Girl Talk the respect they deserve.
Maybe not Dude. But here it is 0630 and I'm cutting and pasting from your latest troll and actually talking to you Dude. So Girl Talk move over cause Rich46yo, now 50yo, is going senile and buying a Macbook ......Dude. Boy if the younger generation doesnt start doing better then this then they are going to end up like the older generation.
Gaaaaaa,gaaaaaa,gaaaaaa

This is much the same with any music that you post, Twenty'fo'.

:rofl
^^ is all this thread deserves.
-
It's not art, it's not mixing, it's not unique or for that matter particularly inspired. He's sequencing samples and dancing around. Not very challenging, and certainly not new.
What he does is entertainment. People seem to like it and apparently pay for the privilege. God bless him. I gotta wonder how he handles the licenses but beyond that it seems pretty harmless, but it ain't special at all.
-
For those of you that have any question at all in your mind about whether or not TwentyFo is ever trolling on this, take note that he quickly & furiously responds to attacks... but *crickets* on the staunch agreements to his taste in entertainment commentary! :lol

24 needs to watch MC Chris's "White Kids Love Hip Hop". that one is right up his alley.
I will admit I dig the part at the end of it where Andy Merrill, the voice of Brak from Space Ghost Coast to Coast is free styling.

You could not be more wrong.... Just because you don't hear something on the radio doesn't mean it doesn't exist...
Here's an example: Back in the 80's, metal was rarely (if ever) played on commercial radio stations.. If they did, it
was somekind of friday night metal show or something.. However, bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc. were hugely
popular, even though you never heard them on the radio.. Hell, Metallica never even made a video until And Justice for All came out..
There's all sorts of scenes out there to carry on the torch and do it probably better than a lot of their predecessors..
Just because something isn't commercialized and rammed down the populaces throat (like all music is on the radio for the past 20-25 years)
doesn't mean it doesn't exist.. People are quick to label independent music as weak, whiney, not as good as the commercial stuff..
The is an absolute farce that corporate record labels have injected into each scene in order to keep their pockets lined...
Every scene of music I hear on the radio is nothing more than dressed up dog-crap.. Dress it as much as you want...
It's still gonna smell like dog-crap.... Alt-Rock-Metal=Junk
Commercial Hip-Hop=Junk
Emo=Junk(I can only take so many bands that sound like Sunny Day Realestate and Bright Eyes)
R+B=Junk (same theme over and over in every song)
Country=Junk(the most commercialized crap out out there. They compare nothing with true country artist such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, etc)
These styles of music are just to name a few....
Corporate music is a joke.... I find it disheartening that so many folks literally buy into it....
-

and johnny cash rocks! :)
Corporate music is a joke, i agree.
i dont even listen to radio any more,,,except for xm radio at times.
Im glad the record companies are having a bad time these days (in a way, I never really want to see anyone "personally" have a bad time, except mabey hitler) they ruined the record business to move (as u said) corperate junk.

I found my head bobbing with the music right up until he put in Sinead O'Conner......NEVER resurrect Sinead. All in all not too bad. Sounded a lot like the music they played in the clubs in Virginia Beach in the mid 90s. Ivan is correct, just add a little alcohol baby! I guess I'm in that age group (I'm 33) that can still listen to techno-type music, but just doesn't go looking for it.

Talking with crappy beats and retarded sounds isn't music no matter how you try to spin it. Having someone slow it down, speeding it up, or making it so it repeats over and over is just stupid. If you cant play some sort of instrument while actually singing then it should be considered music.
Rap is for those that think having $5,000 spinning rims on a $40,000 truck/SUV while collecting unemployment, food stamps and/or, welfare is "the good life".

Umm...yeah...well incase you didnt notice, most rappers are rolling in cash and there are a few of them who donate generously to charity on a regular basis. I agree that alot of rap is really bad as far as music goes, but to say that rappers are leaches on society is wrong. Most of them have far too much money and are just a danger to society.

We had it "back in the day" too.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5c81X6BiI0Y http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraftwerk Tho even then it was actually music played by skilled musicians, unlike Girlie talk and his traveling hygiene show. I actually saw Kraftwerk in concert back in the '70s and they blew the club apart with their music.

Just found a new video. Sickness!!! Fast forward to 1:30 in the video. Mixes Elton John and Notorious BIG. One of the most famous rap versus of all time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDDdpxEf9hM&feature=PlayList&p=9E976B64920F8F85&index=24 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDDdpxEf9hM&feature=PlayList&p=9E976B64920F8F85&index=24)
It was all a dream
I used to read Word Up magazine
Salt'n'Pepa and Heavy D up in the limousine
Hangin' pictures on my wall
Every Saturday Rap Attack, Mr. Magic, Marley Marl
I let my tape rock 'til my tape popped
Smokin' tweed and bamboo, sippin' on private stock
Way back, when I had the red and black lumberjack
With the hat to match
Remember Rappin' Duke, duh-ha, duh-ha
You never thought that hip hop would take it this far
Now I'm in the limelight 'cause I rhyme tight
Time to get paid, blow up like the World Trade
Born sinner, the opposite of a winner
Remember when I used to eat sardines for dinner
Peace to Ron G, Brucey B, Kid Capri
Funkmaster Flex, Lovebug Starsky
I'm blowin' up like you thought I would
Call the crib, same number same hood
It's all good
-
Mixes Elton John
I don't even have to say anything, you said it for me.
