Of all these so called adults having obscenity laced temper tantrums in the game, and on the vox.
Funny but the kids, and the young guys, really aren't the problem. These characters are all 30yo or older.
Either their "6" wasn't watched by everyone else. Or they think someone stole their little cartoon kill. Or they think someone HO'd their little cartoon airplane. Or somebody made a mistake and ended up their little cartoon airplane was kill/shot.
Anyone who would use that kinda language, or spew those kinda insults, during a computer game, is a fool and a coward. If I used those kinda insults I'd have to be looking into somebody eyes, or lose all self respect. Course I dont. Someone talks to me in real life like that they are going to have to either eat their words or throw down.
I'm not talking ch 200 banter here. You all know what I'm talking about. Frankly I'm surprised AH puts up with it.

It is sad, isn't it?

you're right//////i've been guilty of it myself on occasion, in game.....but when i realize i'm doing it i log.
now.,,,,,,you DO know about the .report feature, don't ya?
i had a couple that kept harrassing me on 200, then on the regular "All" channel....and would even come to the knight side to grief me. i warned them one time. after that, anything they said or typed that even got near the ballpark of slightly almost annoying me, i reported and recorded.
i don't know if they got muted or not, but they did stop the poop though.
whining here is one thing......in game though........
just a thought.

Most people say that until you meat a person in real life you don't know who they are, but no, until you mean a person online you don't know who they are. That is because online people show who they really are, they do things they would never do in real life.
Oh and one more thing, if it's your enemy getting pissed that only means that your doing your job
-
:aok
Everyone has a temper and most know how to properly control it however there are many that have no idea about self control. The fact that there is very rarely a face to face in this game (excluding people who play in the same area and at LAN parties) there is no real consequence for those that show severe cases of verbal aggression and abuse. You can always report the people and they will possibly get muted or more strict punishments dependent on the severity of the situation but that is where it ends. This has always been a community that policed itself and for the most part it does a fairly good job of it; there are people that will always return to verbal abuse when things do not go as they wanted it to go no matter what punishments are imposed, no matter how many times they are called out for their actions short of perma banning accounts.
I ignore most people on VOX, though always staying mindful enough to listen through the banter to get the mission done while helping as many people as I can in as many situations as is possible.
-
its funny..i haven't played for a couple weeks. Ive been taking a break. During that time, I've been playing Team Fortress 2 instead. The kids that play that game are a lot more respectful than many adults in this game. Also, I rarely see whine fests or pissing matches. Even on vox, the language is pretty tame. It is a much more relaxed atmosphere. You never feel like you have to defend every little action you do in game. Its rather sad how worked up people get in AH. I know they are totally different games, but they are both still GAMES.

yaknow.....that's part of why i went to ew last weekend. i tend to spend a lot of my very limited online time in the ta too. both places, i don't have to deal with peoples egos.

I know what you are talking about, I am quite supprised that not only AH2 puts up with it but also that they don't have a wolf pack of enemy AND friendly units chasing them out of the area or better yet the arenas. I fly a bomber and I was quite supprised to find that the fighter jockeys are as un-chivalrous as they are. I mean I try not to cuss anyone out or insult them if they shoot me down, infact I often salute them; they are good pilots and deserve respect.

Im not going to name names, or post film, but the latest one was with a guy whom... I upped at a heavily fought for base, a WW out of the VH, as I came out of the VH I saw cons IB so I started shooting. What happened, by accident, is I guess I drove thru another WW by mistake and the guy kill-shot himself.
What followed was an obscenity laced, minutes long, bag of whiney filth that had others calling for him to shaddup without my help. Then he follows me around in another WW trying to get me to kill shoot myself. Had he just told me what happened I would have apologized. But the real bottom line is Who cares? Who cares if your little cartoon vehicle gets blown up? Certainly who cares enough to go on a fool rant like that? I dont think there was one cuss word missed by this fool.
Myself personaly Im a 50yo guy with all the responsability in the world and couldnt care less if my little airplane gets shot down. It doesnt matter! In my life its not even at the level of trivial.
Frankly AH has tolerated these characters for far to long. Maybe the community too. :salute

you shouldn't be mad!!!!! you p/o'd hiom bad enough to follow ya around? THAT is worth a whooole bunch of laughs. here he is, trying to get you to killshoot yerself, and the more you DON'T, the more pissed he's getting. i'd have just laughed at him. if i were in a bad mood, that certainly would've fixed it.

May I? This is an easy one.
This 30+ year-old group you speak of takes this very seriously because it's the only place in their life where they feel like they escape from their crappy lives. Either work, the social life, or the marriage, or household is bringing them down to a point of self-medication. Enter Aces High II. They've had a crappy day all day then they get home, log on to Aces High where they immediately get shot down by some dude named "Beans" and they lose it!

Personaly I think its only a small group of 30+ somethings and they are a little soft in the head. Or, just plain jerks.
Anyone who thinks any of this is that serious to act like that is a softball. I get no end to aggravation on my job. I have to deal with the dregs of the earth and still every citizen I meet is "sir" or "ma'm". How is that possible? How is it possible that all these other players treat each other respectfully?
Dont enable people by making exuses for them.

Im not "mad". More like "embarrased" to be sharing a game with such a screwball. I later saw his squad, "all of 4 players", trying to recruit. :lol I bet thats a fun bunch.

I chewed out Biggamer yesterday in the MW arena for being so totally inconsiderate of rolling fighter down the runway and being in the exact spot of where my 75mm round landed that I fired from a B-25H from 2000 yards away. I mean, how totally and completely lame you have to be to move your plane to the exact spot where my shell landed? For jeebus sake, it's not like he could have missed seeing the 75mm round coming at him, he could have had time to move his plane out of the way but noooooooo.
In all seriousness, it was a very sweet direct hit from 2000 yards that we both got a good laugh out of.

I banter but I'm just an insane bistige, don't get to do it much irl because people tend to shy away and ignore me... besides, real life isn't even half as annoying as aces high can be :D so there's not much to get angry about!

May I? Most of these crappy life guys you so easily put down have been flying flight sims longer than you have been walking the planet I would bet.Theres a community involved in that and they for the most part respect each other and have a good time in friendly fights.
Then comes along the PS,X BOX,Nintenduh kiddies with their squeeky, gamey, score fixated little attitudes and their my "MOM pays 14.95 a month so I dont CARE if you guys love the birds.I love the score."
This isnt air quake and was never intended to be so.Sadly thats what its turning into and the old guard is going down kicking and screaming.
To bad you little kiddies never saw a real community in a flight sim like AW had. This was close for many years, but the gamers are slowly out numbering the history buffs.
RIP Flight sims. The games being turned over to the kill at any cost crowd.
Truely,the end. :salute

But all of you have missed pointing-out the overly sensitive type that use the ".report" feature at the slightest whiff of taunting/griefing/poking fun at. Then muted players must send an email to HTC or call them directly (goodness forfend the offence is on a weekend!) wait for the log to be reviewed and generally still have the mute enforced. Because if the mute was overturned, then HTC must acknowledge that their .report feature is flawed. Perhaps the reporter & reportee should BOTH be muted until a review takes place? Toughen-up those thin skinned tardletts perhaps.
Also, lets tighten up those naughty word filters to catch more of the "mis-spelled" ones please.

Don't take up gambling. I'm 33 years old and have been running my squad since 1997 in Air Warrior. How else do you think I would know that bit of psychology? I've been that way at times when bad days come around and so have you. Get a sense of humor, you salty awesome veteran.

I couldn't agree with you more. But we were talking about the 30+ crowd that runs their mouths. Do you deny that it exists or something? Because it most certainly does. Stay on topic please.

Yes it is too bad. I still don't understand why you went "wet cat" over my post because it's true in a lot of cases and I thought it was funny. And your response to me is very characteristic of the "kiddies" you are criticizing. If you truly detest verbally insulting behavior don't engage in it yourself. The word "hypocrite" comes to mind.
Truely,the end. :salute
If you say so. By the way there's no "e" in "truly" nor "potato".

No way. I don't expect TF2 and L4D audiences are much different.... The racism, griefing, and general b*chiness in there is an order of magnitude worse than AH. I never truly realised what was probably the reference when people said "air quake" and "gamer", till I saw the crap you have to put up with playing those xbox-live-ish games.

Ok I stand corrected. Not only in this statement but my typos

No you didnt but alot of the newer members, and I use that term loosely, dont get that.

Have ya been into the DA recently? I dont mind the verbal jousting in the MA.It happens. What I DO mind is the game play that has gone to hell because of the little tardletts that are on this forum talking about the vets that made this type of game even available to play due to their dedication to the genre. To them its a point and shoot. To many of us its a walk down historical blvd. They will never get that.YOU obviously do. It was just your post that made me want to reply. You looked like someone that would check my spelling for me. :lol
Theirs no I in Team America either :noid

I agree, pretty funny how far some will go to ruin another's fun. They need to take a deep breath and back away from the computer :aok
-
These characters are all 30yo or older.
Show me the data on this. You have some way of determining a players age by voice?
You make it sound like this happens all the time. I find just the opposite, for the most, vox
is pretty tame and respectful.
Most adults know how to deal with the odd idiot on vox. May I recommend "SQUELCH".
As I found out recently, making mountains out of molehills, doesn't garner much support
on these forums.
-
Theres really no reason to get mad its just a game but it sometime does get anoying when you cant kill a m8 w/a tiger etc. so just have fun and enjoy the game theres no reason to insult anyone.
-
Show me the data on this. You have some way of determining a players age by voice?
Data? your kidding right? But so far your the only one that disagreed with me. And yes, I can tell an adult by their voice, "which is why we call squeekers "squeekers".
You make it sound like this happens all the time. I find just the opposite, for the most, vox

Oh It happens several times a week if not more. Mostly its the 40yo baggasweetheart screaming causing the rest of us serfs werent "Waaaaatching Myyyyyy Sixxxxx".

Pity we dont have permanent.

Frankly I'm surprised AH puts up with it.
I don't agree that this is a 30+ year old player problem. Whether you're 14 or 64, as a member of an online community, it's your responsibility to conduct yourself in a proper manner. I will concede that it's embarrassing to listen to an "adult" scream obscenities over Range, within earshot of much younger players.
AH doesn't put up with it. There are MODS around from time to time. We've all seen the posts decrying their "selective" and "trigger happy" mutes. You're provided the means of .report. Use it. Or simply tell the offender you find their conduct offensive.
-

II would think it takes far more than a single report to get you muted. If your useing foul language many will .report you. You have to understand that some folks were raised better than others. I would thing you would not get muted for taunting or poking fun at unless you become more of a stalker.
-
yes, I can tell an adult by their voice
Not only that, you apparently are able to determine whether they are in their 20s, 30s, or 40s.
A very rare talent indeed. :huh
I guess youv been on the wrong end of a few complaints.
Yep, I've been guilty of making an bellybutton out of myself from time to time. I try to learn from
those mistakes so I don't repeat them. :aok

Not only that, but some of us have six year old daughters who are in the room and don't need to hear some middle aged guy who should know better make a foul mouthed show for everyone. And it is a show. I totally understand that somebody might get frustrated occaisionally. But how hard is it to NOT push the VoX button during your rant.

I play TF2 and am on Xbox live and i think out of all three AH2 has the most complainers by far and egos. There is alot more unfriendly people on AH2.
-
Agree. The worst aspect of AH is the players, even when they're not chest-thumping directly at you.
Recommend HTC begins a partnership with eharmony.com to determine whether a player is a perfect match for the "nice guy arena", the "mostly alright guy arena" or the "completely egotistical and classless arena". :aok

I have been a petulant jerk on country. I try to restrict my creative expletives to squad. There is no good rationalization for cussing up a storm, but there are times when it just flows. Sorry to anyone who took offense.

Agree to disagree.... L4D is full of unrepentant and unrestrained racists and other griefing bigots.
-
You realize the ratio of "I was unfairly muted" to "There's too much *@#% on vox" posts is probably 20 to 1.
:D
My "check 6" rants aren't profanity laced but I've done it. I often apologize after for being a dooche. My profanity laced rants are usually directed at my computer.
I'm always amazed by "I didn't mean to type that types. Also, you just expect it from some people and squelch as necessary.

actually......EVERYONE is racist in some way, shape or form.
but...if this thread keeps going this way, we may get it locked.........
-
Actually, no, not everyone is "racist". There's no arguing over it in this thread, so I don't see how it'll get locked unless you want to argue that calling people N* or "blackie" this, "blackie" that, which I've never heard once in all of 10 years in AH, is "not racist".

nono...i don't want to get this locked, so no argument.....i was only making an observation.

I'll tell ya what.. Players in AH tend to be older. Grumpier.. But generally wiser behind any wiseassery or rudeness.

on the flipside, in many cases.. some of them seem to think age automatically makes them wise and right even when they're incredibly wrong.

well...i am older......47....i try like hell to not be grumpy. it's hard sometimes, as i'm sure you know.
i have my own shop, which is up and down, with people in panic about the economy...either way, being new, it's like having 2 jobs. then i work a part time job a fewe nightrs a week,,,,,,then i do pretty much in CAP........
i try to not be a wisearse, although sometimes i am......if i have a whine or complaint, i tend to try to bring them here or fw, rather than cause a poopstorm on open channel.
i don't go nuts cursing people out on country channel, i don;t care if i get a check6, and will gladly give one to those i know.......

I do call people names for all things mentioned in the first post as well as for other actions I find unsporty and dirty. Though i usually feel stupid immediately afterwards and will try to apologise if I can ;). For me AHII is like any real life team game, be it soccer, basketball, handball or anything similar - you're pumped on adrenaline trying to perform best you can, and when you feel your effort is wasted by some dirty play of your opponents or screwed by your team mate, you need to vent out the frustration and tell a few words at the person. I don't believe that anybody playing these games never cursed anyone in a way and for the reasons I mentioned. I think it's OK in a relaxed atmosphere of a computer game. I myself never pay any attention to ch200 insults anyway. Real life and everyday situations are totally different things and I doubt if any of ch200 loud mouths would offend somebody like he does in arenas. I wouldn't and never had. Even though my work sometimes provides me with more stress, fast action and interacting with twisted characters than AH :).

I rarely even tune to 200 unless its to <S> someone.

Actually, no, not everyone is "racist". There's no arguing over it in this thread, so I don't see how it'll get locked unless you want to argue that calling people N* or "blackie" this, "blackie" that, which I've never heard once in all of 10 years in AH, is "not racist".
Don't forget whitey or the "C" word.

yeah, what the cracka said

In my opinion I'd say most of you are just spoiled. Go play a game like COD4, CS, Left 4 Dead, pretty much any "popular" multiplayer game and listen to what the ingame chat is like in there. Even the most extreme things you hear on range doesn't even come close to the norm in other games. It really doesn't bother me, and I will openly admit I will say something on range to someone who interrupts a good 1on1, or HO's a con I am about to kill. Maybe if people were more respectful of other peoples gaming experience you wouldn't have so many outbursts on range. Also, the whole "peoples kids play this game" angle is pretty much ridiculous at this point. Kids hear and see much much worse on a daily basis.
That being said, being able to mute range would help with this problem.

This game involves competition. In any encounter between two or more competitors there can be stress and high emotion.
Frankly, those complaining about the language are Nancy-boys. If you don't want to risk exposing yourself to colorful language, don't tune, play with the sound off, hide under your bed. At what seems to be an exponentially expanding rate, the world is being populated by sissies.
Kids play this game? So what? Parents who choose to allow their kids to compete in a game with hundreds of people, most of whom are adult age males and strangers, should expect their kids to be exposed to colorful language. Anyone who expects otherwise is a fool, and an unrealistic one at that.
I can understand that the owners of this game would strive to minimize the colorful language. It makes sense both socially and economically. To expect to eliminate it entirely is unrealistic.
What happened, by accident, is I guess I drove thru another WW by mistake and the guy kill-shot himself.
Geez, what a lost opportunity for a good long laugh. The guy was a turd for whining no doubt, but this is funny as heck. I'd laugh about this every time I thought of it if I were either party.

Any man that would call another man names like that, either behind his back or protected by Internet anonymity/hundreds of miles, is a coward of the douchiest sort. Anyway thats my code. Look into a guys eyes if your going to bad mouth him or be branded a sissy.
And I was raised like that. Most men my age here were. This was before the electronic revolution and before boys were expected to get in touch with their inner-feminine. Back then you talked like that about another guy odds were you were going to have to fight. There was no calling the cops, or your parents. Even the teachers then would tell you "ya had it coming".
We get them calling 911 all the time, screeching into their blackberrys, when they are out at a bar or ball game and get trimmed after opening their big mouth, "most times to woman". When the squad pulls up you should hear them yammer and bleat that they were beat up and they want to sign complaints. And usually they start talking smack again when enough uniforms are there to protect them.

Yeah, gee. Real stressful competition. :huh Sitting at your desktop, in your Jam-Jams, yanking on your little plastic joystick... :lol Thats some real serious, stressful stuff. Especially when your little cartoon airplane goes down and your rank goes from 451 to 453. Boy, I'm shaking from the stress. :rofl
Anyone can get caught up in the game and get a little excited. Its happened to me and part of what makes for a great game. Ive felt anger too when a check 6 didn't come my way, "tho within seconds I reminded myself its only a silly computer game".
But a few of these characters?? Why would anyone 1/2 decent even enable them by making exuses for them. If I was a parent, with a kid online when this fool went off? I'd be pretty mad about it.

Steve you are one of those guys who thinks cause he says a few cuss words hes cool, when in fact your just a Tool. :rofl

just to be clear......what i type here, or type or say ingame........if you or anyone else were sitting right next to me or standing right in front of me.....i'd say the same things. i've never been one to keep my mouth shut.....even "when i should keep my mouth shut".
that also got me in a lot more trouble with the local pd;s when i got pulled over when i was younger.
i should also add.......i do not claim that i could or would "pummel" someone for talking that way to me, nor do i claim that i would do the same should they have an issue with me. i simply act the same towards you guys in here as i would act towards you all face to face.
-

I've never heard of you and you don't know what I think, although we now know you think I'm a tool. Other than the last part of the previous sentence, your post didn't say anything. A total stranger called me a tool....I may need therapy.

Someone's a little sensitive
The post I responded to was incredibly insulting and exactly representative of who this thread is about. It wasn't "joking" nor was it a light-hearted ribbing. So go "eek" yourself.

Ya ya ya. Just like every other guy on the internet you'd pummel someone if they spoke to you, in a certain way, in person. Every last person typing on the internet, you especially, could stomp Chuck Norris.
As far as anger in the game goes, you and I are talking about two different things. The guy who gets mad over a lack of check 6 or that he got kill shot(this is still funny to me... good job) is different from the guy who says something in the heat of the moment after an involved fight. The former is just a knucklehead(with comedic side effects)
Anyone can get caught up in the game and get a little excited.
These are your words and this is the kind of person I'm talking about. I don't know about jamjams and rank, maybe that's your thing. I typically rank somewhere near 2500 and I don't own any jamjams, lol.
The fact is, there are aspects of this game that are competitive. You can mock me for saying this if you like... oh wait you already have mocked me, then you admitted yourself it's competitive. Sometimes people get caught up in the moment and say things. I do this, I'm quite imperfect. I've eaten my share of crow by way of apologizing later, however.
As for kids playing. I stand by my assertion: If you put a kid in a virtual room, which is competitive, with 300 adult age male strangers and expect everyone to behave like it's a church choir, then you have unrealistic expectations.
-

The parents are allowing their kids to be in an adult environment, if they aren't prepared for them to hear adult conversation then maybe they shouldn't let them play. End of story.

That comment right there should be on a poster somewhere. Of all the idiotic comments that could be made in this thread, that one takes the prize.
Your going to be mad at someone for going off and for allowing your kid to hear them go off? Seems to me at some point you would be a PARENT and use some amount of sense in choosing which babysitter you have watching your "kid".
The person that goes off while your kid is listening may be very wrong for "going off". But a parent who would hold that person accountable for "going off" in an online game is nothing short of negligent in the attention they give to their "kid" and that "kids" welfare in general.
I would hazard to guess that my sig would apply to your comments in this case.

Perhaps the Adults in said Adult environment should learn to act like Adults.

This is just pretty prose.
From a parent's perspective, you cannot expect 300 adult age males to always behave like adults. A parent would be foolish expect this. How they should behave is totally pointless. Rapists should behave like law abiding citizens but you wouldn't leave your daughter alone with a molestor, even though he should keep his hands off of her.

I would say this sums it up nicely

I'm not one to complain about someones language. I have the mouth of a sailor. But school is out now and we have alot of kids signing up to enjoy the game with us and we really should try to keep the bad language limited to squad channel. :salute

Absolutely, but this has nothing to do with the post about kids playing the game.

Yes I know.I was commenting on the last few posts. I went back and read the OP and personal opinion is "so what!". It's the internet and that's the nature of the beast. I could care less if some dude goes on a ranting spree. I squelch him and go on.
Rich is probably talking about Midevil2. I personally think the young man has mental issues. But I ain't going to make his issues mine. Rich should know by now that this game is full of all kind of folks from all walks of life and you can't control their actions or behavior. I suspect that Rich(being a police officer) is used to getting respect in the real world and is slightly frustrated that he can't slap the cuffs on some of these guys that rub him the wrong way. I think he just came to the BBS to vent his anger and say his peace. :salute

Data? your kidding right? But so far your the only one that disagreed with me. And yes, I can tell an adult by their voice, "which is why we call squeekers "squeekers".
I'm willing to bet money on this

Those of you using AH as a babysitter for your kids: stop it. The Department of Children's Welfare should be notified that you are allowing your child to be exposed to such an adult environment.
Those of you saying naughty things: stop it. There are children in the arenas that have parents that use AH as a babysitting service.
Maybe we need a "Minors Arena"? Only those under 18y/o have VOX privilege.
Well?

I'm beginning to think that's a good idea. Certainly the adults are going out of their way to claim a right to act like teenagers.

Even though I never talk "adult" on range, I do get salty on occasion on the squad vox. I feel that parents need to know enough about what their kids are doing to decide if the mostly adult environment of AH is ok for their children. I recommend keeping it clean on range guys if you can. However if something slips and burns some tender young ears, it can only be their own parents fault for lack of knowledge. :aok
-
Ya know other than a SkyRock tirade once aimed at me Im just not hearing alot of out of line talk on the range but then again I dont fly with the horde so I might be missing alot. :rofl Theres another good reason to fly with smaller groups.

I agree with this post. I keep it clean on range, not because of kids, but it's just not classy to "f" up a storm to people you don't know. I am a foul mouth on squad channel however and if any kids find their way there that's his and his parents' problem to solve. Not mine. Should everyone quit drinking and cussing in bars too just because a kid "might" have snuck in and is hiding and listening/watching? I can't think of a worse place for children to hang out than an online game server. Seriously. In a different way, that's like turning your kid loose alone at a Philadelphia Eagles game when they are losing. You wouldn't do that either.
No 13 year old needs to be anywhere near a stoned 40 year old stranger playing in his mother's basement for 10 hours straight with the handle "QuickBong".

i can't even imagine sitting at my computer for only 5 hours straight.....but yet, if you look at some of the times, you see guys flying hundreds of hours a month.........
there's a guy that flew 226 or so hours last tour........that averages out to almost 8 hours a day. WTF???????
how the hell do you sit at a computer for that long??????
<<walking away shaking his head>>

Your about what? 16yo? Ive been listening to people, all kinds of people, on radios 8 to 12 hours a day for twice as long as youv been on this earth.

Well?
Aces High isn't an adult environment. HTC has stated numerous times this game is aimed at a general audience, which would include people of all ages.
Of course, that won't stop you from claiming this is an adult environment any time in the future.

The bar thing isn't a good analogy for a couple of reasons.
1) Kids don't have to sneak into AH arenas because of being underage. HTC has not set an age limit on who can play and who can't.
2) Bars are aimed at an adult audience, this game is aimed at a general audience.
Btw, my 14 year old daughter plays World of Warcraft in her spare time. As long as she has her chores/school work taken care of, there is nothing wrong with it. If she liked Aces High, there would be nothing wrong with her playing that in her spare time either.
