There are all kinds of different ways to capture a base. Different countries, different squads, and geography of arenas call for their own ways of accomplishing this. Most of you know me as a knight, but more recently I've been moving around trying to get to know other countries and study their techniques. Some players are more welcoming than others. However some of these tactics I've seen are very clever and effective while others very mundane and weak.
As of last two weeks heres what I've observed:
I've found knights more defense oriented, while bishops are more offensive and focused on the war. I cant say much for rooks cause I havent hung out there much but I learned that when they have numbers there really isnt much stopping them.
If you have any thoughts on this, you disagree, or any unique tactics you know, and would like to share (beyond late night base sneeking) please tell me.

When you see your CV-groups driving away from the base everybody is trying to capture...then you know you are on the Knight´s side.
-
Back to what I always say..... all sides are more alike than different. Just depends on what time, what day, what holliday, what month your on.
-

At least one of you knows a CV plowing channels through the sand bar is idiotic....

Yeah, I was going to say that the Knights sounds smarter than the Rooks here.
-
Pig tactics:
See red attack it, if the base is taken in process of fight, cool. If not, fun fight anyway. :D
If no red to attack, then bomb something on their field until red shows up, attack red, if the base is taken in process, cool. If no red and base was taken, bummer. :(
-
I used to think that all countries were different...until I started changing sides, countries the same, people are different. But there are good people on all sides of the fence
-
I've been agreeing with you way too much lately.

Well I havent been playing long, but definitely enough to disagree that the people are the same on each country. If this were true the knights wouldnt get stomped on as often as they do.
Heres why I think.
The only way to get a base sometimes on the knight end is to use carriers with just a couple of guys shelling the daylights out of it. That, or a N.O.E mission. Both lame and over used styles of offense. For the most part I cant rally enough knights to do much anything that doesnt require a spawn point or carrier. No matter what time of day.
This isnt to say I nver do get em together. I'm sure all of you at one time or another have killed an FB during one of me, Bob, or Dreds missions. However, it kind of bugs me that with such good squads logged on the knights cant rally and get somethin done.
Theres definitely a different mentality among each country. I see it from simple observation.
This is why I asked if anyone has any good tactics so that small groups of goal oriented fellas can ge somethin done.
-
I've played Ah since the early days. I have always played on all sides. I'm pretty sure I know how each side handles things.
Your estimation is based on your short time of checking out two sides.
-
Yeah I'm not sayin I could be wrong. I posted this hoping to hear some tactics. I shared mine. Carrier missions. Whats everyone elses?

I am a member of a formerly NOE heavy mission planning squad. These days, we take less bases, with less people and at alt.
Everybody always bashes the hordes but the truth of the matter is.......... For a bunch of base takers to suceed they will do NOE's, CV shooting before dar erupts and bring 50 people.
If you want to dogfight and maybe take a base........ As the Wing2 PIG CO would say......
Then you're probably going to dogfight 90% of the time and take bases 10%
-
Look me up some time when I'm on. Always willing to help if not engaged or on mission. YOU MUST be on the side that I am on at the time. Lately, it has been on the Rook side. :salute

I'll say as someone who ends up defending bases far more often than being part of a capture attempt (at least that's what it feels like) the single most vexing thing to try to contend with is a combined arms assault from the air and the ground. Taking off you have to look out for ground fire from the damned wirbles and ostwinds. The GV's will then force defenders to either split their numbers and up tanks and aircraft, or load up their aircraft with ordinance and deal with the attack, which takes time and precludes them from climbing to meet the inbound planes. When I'm on the other end and I know the field I'm flying to has a GV attack underway I know my chances of catching many of the defenders low and loaded with bombs it pretty good, a couple good sticks can wreck havoc on the defenders in that scenario.
Timing and coordination are probably the strongest tools the attacks have, the ability to dictate when the engagement occurs.
-
I've been flying all countries, although Bish are my favorite and Knits my least favorite. Rooks take bases, they just aren't in a hurry to do so. They like to wear a base down first. I have to tell you I somewhat admire that to a point and it's fun.
If Knits get on a mission to capture bases they do very well. What turned me a tad sour on knits was I asked 3 times if they needed a goon at a base they totally dominated. No reply. I get there and the town is full up, the town people are having a jamboree and I get killed by a nik at a base that is capped by about 10 knits. I said enough of that.

Is FBDred not around anymore ? ... he could tell you all you need to know. The MAW and the FBs use to hook up back in the days ... practically nothing could stop that combination.
-
What I notice about base takers is there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Every one has an idea, but wants the other guy to carry it out. I'd rather defend.
-
If you are talking Vehicle base all you need is a fighter or two with ord for GVs, a set of lancs and a goon or M3 to run in. Usually I can get there and take the Hangers down in 3-4 minutes and have the Fighters take care of the Ack and any Gvs that got up.
As for Air Bases you need a few more people to help. The key is to suppress defence. First you must disable the VH to prevent GVs from getting to town. Fighter cover to distract the upping fighter defence. You don't need to vulch the runway although many will. 3 Bomber groups at 7k or 3 Panzers with HE will devistate the town in short order. Deliver troops in C47, M3 or both and you're done. Rooks will try not to pork field so they can use it soon after capture. :aok
-
I think what the original poster is getting at is that he wants squads or mission planners to reveal their tactics on takeing a base. My squad doesnt reveal anything, we change things up we have tactics for any givein situation.Wether it be attack from a cv or a high alt base crushing mission even the rare NOE. we even have tactics for wingman operations and defense. But as far as laying out our particular way of doing things? We'll never tell. :D
-
That's why I have 2 secret RT as members of LM......... :lol
My squad doesnt reveal anything, we change things up we have tactics for any givein situation.

:rofl :rofl im sure you do Logann we have infiltrated the RT and jokers ourselves but the info we get back baffles the mind its like takeing direction from the smartest kid on the shortbus :aok :rofl :rofl
Besides we waterboard all members once a month just to make sure they are flying right :rofl
-
Tralfazz was totally drunk. I saw his notes. That's why they came out retarded.
I kept telling him too.... "Dude, no more tequila, you gotta fly and report back on what we're doing." He responded with "Teq teq teq eel AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
It was all very strange.
-
:rofl :rofl OK thanks for the info he gets waterboarded twice this month :lol

110's and a goon NOE always for for the 65th or t34's a wirble and an M3. Both high success rate and both only require 4 guys. Sometimes we'll go smash a town and if a massive amount of uppers come out we fight to the death and let base settle for 15 minutes then attack with fighters and a goon or m3. of course you need one guy in attack mode with an egg for the stubborn dude that wants to watch the town in a tank! :devil This one is my favorite since you get to score on both attack and fighter. :salute
-
First, get in an M3 and head to a town. Next, start ordering people to get the town down. At this point you may need to scream bloody murder if they don't do it fast enough. If need be, spam country channel with insults to your countrymen and call them pointless furballers. Finally, take credit for the capture and post in forums how good your squad is at teamwork, organization, and Honor  . :aok

Scream your orders preferably in a very high voice.

That sounds about right to me! They can do that all day. Like Way said. Vulch said place 90 % and take base 10%. hehe. :D
-
Take 7 sets of lancasters 5 heavy 38's to drop hangers at a V base after the 38's all auger and the hangers are down turn lancs around and dive bomb all GV's left on the base then run 6 M3's in to capture the base. :aok OH wait thats the bish :rofl Then laugh because the manned gun is still up. :rofl :rofl
-
It is all cyclic tomorrow the rooks will be this yesterday the bish where that next week the nits will be......?? at best confused.
-
Missions are very diverse, and the only thing that limits them is the limited imagination of some people.
Some people will launch the same old 110's and a goon NOE, or 40 hvy P47s to flatten everything. Those people either have no imagination, or just can't bothered to think up a real plan. With the mission planner you can have any number of wings flying any number of planes, following any number of way points, from any number of bases. With a little math you can stagger the launch times so That the plane launch at the right times to have the right amount of time to climb out to different point to meet up with other wings launched from different bases.
There is nothing as neat as climbing out to your way points with a half dozen buff formations to level off and have your fighter cover come sliding in over head. Talk about realism !
-
I'd rather defend.
Until they start paying us to win maps, such is the path of wisdom.
Hmmm...let me see...weight a marginal fighter like the 110 down with eggs and fly (slowly) at 100feet AGL on my mission to fight ack and buildings, the likely outcomes of the mission being either no opposition OR certain ignominious death...
Or do I *defend* against such tactics?
Woo. Tough choice. :devil
-
What I have found is large attacks on bases...green guys totally outnumbered....mayhem with red guys fighting each other for a kill on all sides........oh wait, that's my bad....I have this problem with looking for a base with dar down, min of half a sector red dar, and if I'm lucky a little bit of a green dar..... just so I can moan on 200 about the fact that the red guys don't want to fight....same for all sides :D
But seriously now..........fine I can't be serious but my findings, slim as they are.... Bish seem to be more helpful all round...Rooks are fun when you are known..and nits can be fun and helpful, if you are patient. but ultimately this all comes down to the player...you can either be in or out it is your choice.....all sides are simply the same type of people with a different symbol above their cartoon transport.
oh yeah this was about base taking tactics....... as has been said, a combined ground and air is hard to defend.
-
I'm a little new to forums but thanks for all the responses. To answer someones question FBDred will return someday soon I hope. Until then its me and FBBob and our wing commanders. With all respect to the FB's for the most part we start rolling bases as a squad when its late and no ones around. Evidence for this: My fellow FB's consistently complain about ENY when we are on, meaning that one or both opposite sides are logging off. I'd like to get back to the good old days when I first played aces high about a year ago when we dominated the skies with Mega Buff missions and co-squad operations.

Tactics? Take down the town and kill whoever trys to stop you. Then straf maproom and let the troops run. If you don't have much skill, get 50 guys and go noe. That seems to be the tactic.

I hate that soft gun....... :furious

That makes 2 of us :rofl :rofl

I gotta say a lot of these ideas I have either already used or never got enough people to atempt. Last night i tried a new one I'd like to share. After watching the bishops for a short period of time I learned alot about the nature of airbase defense itself. A base is virtually defenseless without a VH or ack guns, and those who up from an adjacent base are hesitant to make the trip to defend.
Last night I used 190A-8's, b25's, and 38j's in sequential missions to effectively take 5 bases with a small group of guys.
The b25h is my own twist to the deack and cap equation...its an effective deacker

Yeah i did say that. It was true for last nights ops too. So i dont know how effective this type of attack would be with a good defense upping

NP at least you realize the difference. Some folks just don't get it. <S>

SAPP will up maybe 50 38Js, Gs, and Ls. We head to the nearest far field we can almost find. Our loadout is standard. All carry two torpedoes and a blender. The torps are for the town and the non-destructable. We go in no-e at around 30 feet depending on tree height around target area. When we reach target we dive about 60 feet or untill we reach the "crap factor". The "crap factor" is a little known point (to SAPP folks anyway) where one realizes you can't dive 60 feet from 30 feet in the air.
At this point I can't get too detailed as it is a bit secretive. Let's just say we drag 38 parts up to sit on and drink frozen margaritas till we forget what just happened. We wait till the trucks from the field come pick us up and inform us that this is a friendly field. Rinse and repeat!

Wait patiently until 3AM. Take a plane with cannons and deack a VBase. Carefully auger. Drive a M3 to the map room and let the troops out.

one night, i couldn't sleep. nothing was working.
so, bleary eyed, i logged in. it was around 330 or so am my time. looked at the map, saw a vbase flashing. i went to the nearest airfield, to up a plane, then it stopped.
i jumped into a panzer, at the vbase, and headed out to the maproom hangar, parked up against the wall, and shut down.
sure 'nuff.......here comes an m3 running in, not even scanning the terrain.
i let him pull right up to the maproom, and shut down.
i popped him. 3 times. :rofl :O

There is a tried and true way of taking all 3 kinds of bases that is effective over 95% of the time the first try, and usually in less than 6 minutes. Please PM me and I will send you the details. I sure as hell am not going to post it here.
