Hey all :)
So, I've been wanting to learn a new ride now for a long time. After flying the jug as my main ride for years, it's time for a change. The problem is I feel awkward flying anything else, end up just flying my jugs for the most part, get bored and go inactive for months. It's not the gameplay at all, it's just the comfort level I have in a jug. Well, I really don't want this pattern to continue, so I'm going to try to get some peer pressure from you folks to help me stick with a new plane for the next 2 tours. So, with that being said, and for those who care, help me out! My list to pick from is this, I'm trying to stay away from the US planeset for a bit:
109-K4 or G14
spit9
spit16
p38 series
yak-9u
KI84
Niki
Hopfully I'll get a decent response that stays on topic, if you want to help me out just toss in your vote and why etc. Will let the thread run a day or so unless it gets bumped back a few pages. Help me break the cycle! Constructive input is alway appreciated!

But seriously Id consider it, I switched to the 38 in august, and I truly love how it flies. can do it all, but isnt the best at any of it. my .02

I started using the Yak because I read some where that it'll improve my gunnery. I still suck but... My gunnery has improved.

Lol :) gonna let the thread run it's course, though I've really been eyein up the 38 pretty hard. Once people stop voting, if I get any other replies that is, I'll stick with the plane with most votes. Thanks for the reply bud, was hoping that I'd at least get one! :)
38 up by 2 so far! I love that we have such a nice community here that entertains more lighthearted things like this. Y'all ate great!

What is with all of these 38 people. :P
Go with the G14, learn somthing new. Fun plane to fly have to learn how to conserve though, unlike the Jug, it's not big in the ammo poriton, but it does pack a punch with the 30mm and Gondies.
Take it out and fly it at some bombers, that will make you appreciate it alot.

Some planes that i enjoy.....
1. spit 8, 2 cans and 1 droptank, base defense, and possibly bomber killer
2. p51D (attack mode) 4 cans, full bomb loadout, and rockets.. Go to a small airfield and pork it your self, Without getting touched. (key), altitiude 10k + upon entry. after loadout gone, turn yourself into a fighter, your leggs and alt should be there as your enemies claw for your alt......... ( make your bomb and rocket passes with lots of E..)
3. Eny problems? try the ki61, with 50percent gas and the wing mounted drops, definately a great plane with nice gun platform..

First, whats your in game name?
As for the planes, the 3 you have votes on are all fun planes. The G14 will be a light version of the jug, while the 38 will be pretty much the same, with the added effect of being good low and slow. The Yak has a very short clip.
Questions to ask yourself,
- How is your aim? Lousy aim means the yak may be very frustrating to fly.
- Do you have the flaps setup on your stick and do you use them? If not, the 38 could be frustrating.
Me, as a card carrying member of SAPP I have to say the 38 is the best one to go for next... or the 12 will come after me :D
The important thing is to pick the one you can have fun in, and then go from there. :aok

For the planes on the list i suggest the 38J.
Its just a great plane to fly.
And for planes off the list I suggest the Yak-9t.
It only takes 1 shot to blow almost any plane out of the sky.
Its the snipers plane.
And the best perk farmer in my opinion too.

Ki84, its actually a pretty good plane. I haven't gotten any kills in it, but I've gotten some assists in it. It'll ruin your day if you get sloppy.
If you try the ki84 and don't like it, go with P-38L, can't hardly go wrong with the 38 :aok.

Ki-84 always gives me headaches and I do poorly against it , I fly Spits alot it gets you into trouble and hard to get out of it too .

Ignore the P-38 mafia.
The correct choice is the Ki-84 or Bf109K-4.

I always feel so cheap and op when I fly p51D 4 guns cause I so used to 37mm and 2 50's with just 400 ammo so most of the time I am not even shooting I am just flying my foes into the floor -.-

As for the aircraft to try. You don't see many KI-84s, dare to be different.

As for OP KI84 is an awesome ride which is actually pretty easy mode but you just got to know how to keep it in its element. I like to come in about 8.5k ish to a furball and like to work all the other planes below that because then the KI is almost unbeatable if you know how to fly it. Watch out for G6s they give them problems..... :noid

The Yak-9U is probably the best plane in the game to help with gunnery as you only get 120 cannon rounds, and that 20mm fires pretty fast so you have to take your shots wisely. This would be a great plane to spend maybe 2 weeks in just so you can have better aim and enhance your performance in other aircraft, like the G-14/K-4 with the 30mm cannon.
For pure fun I'd choose the Yak or KI-84, always great times flying ether of those.

For a definite change from the Jug, personally I'd go with the Ki84 - fun plane to fly, and gives other planes mares (unless of course I'm in it - see sig for details :D ;))

If you really want to fly a different plane that will challenge you to create crossing shots and 'think ahead' to be able to set your shots up properly, go with the K4 or G14. You won't see much of a difference in the game if you decide on the 38 like most everyone wants you to fly. My 2 cents.

I have only been flyin the K4 now for 4 months. It really does change everything about the game. Oh and it's eats p38s for lunch.

I say go ki-84, 38L if you can't get the hang of the ki-84, but avoid the 109K4, the 30mm is hard to use unless you're used to it, and have had practice. Plus it just doesn't seem like a really top notch plane. Yeah it has a powerful engine, but really thats not the most important thing....

Not sure how anyone wouldn't be able to get the hang of the ki84... it's as easy mode as they come.

IDK either, but one of my squadies had a lot of trouble useing it and never really could be good with it...

Stay away from 38s, they are easy in MA because they have good speed and climb. you will be bnzin alot in it like all these other 38 bandwagon dweebs :devil

P38 is what i call "MA easy mode" just like the HOG. Anyone can fly timid as crap in them and score alot of kills.

Boomerlu, yes that thing is a MONSTER in preformance. But really for nubes, the gun package is 2x 13mm mg's, with the occasional lucky hit from the 30mm.

Nemisis, I skipped some of the discussion, so I'm not sure on this... but the OP isn't a noob?
On the other hand, G14 offers similar training and benefits with an easier gun package. Still, I feel that flying the edge in the K4 teaches a bit more.

He sounds like he isn't. But if he's only used .50's and hispanos, then it'll be almost as bad. But all I was saying is that the 109K4 is a terrible newb plane....

In game name right now is MACHINE. I usually fly in shades my first few weeks back after a long break. I've used nimble the most, but have flown under the gameids swift and timid before as well. :)
With wing mounted .50s my aim is ridiculous. Nose mounted guns throw me off pretty badly.
I'm very accustomed to flap usage :)

Yep. If Im flying low and slow, I try to use the trees, buildings, and hangars to help slow me down more. Also, I may roll down my canopy windows and stick my hand out to reach for a tall nearby object (preferably a flagpole). I then will grab a hold of it, and swing my P38 around into a really tight turn. If I get shot at, I try to throw whatever parts I have at him, and curse at him in vain! :joystick:

Agreed. Don't fly the G6 as much as I do, but I certaily love to fly it in 1v1s.

From your list,I would recommend the Spit 9 or the Yak. But if you go for a Spitfire, maybe the Seafire would give you more of a challenge than the 9. The 9 is a very reliable Spitfire. But of course, if you want a radically different experience, go A6M2 :confused: ... there's nowhere to hide, nowhere to run, in a Zeke...

Good god no!!!!!! fly the ki-84 first. Or at least fly them both. The P-38 is great, just for the love of god don't turn fight zekes, spits, hurricanes, ki-84s, brewsters, etc....

Hmm must be longer than I usually fight them..... they seem to die before too long usually. Keep in mind.. turn fighting is much more than going in circles.

I flew the Ki84 bit and found it to be a great bird. I have always hated the 109's. but I have been flying the g-14 for a few weeks now and had some great fights. Its a fun bird to learn the others are right there is nothing better than getting a 30mm tater snap shot and whatching the other plane explode.
the problem ive had with the spit nine and ki84 is they made me lazy in my acm and E managment, because they are easier to fly. The reason I switched to the 109 was to learns some better acm which it will force you to do.

Learn the 109G14. Doesn't have the engine power that the k4 has so you can't climb your way out of situations. It can't out flat turn most planes, so your forced to think to fight. Its all about out-of-plane maneuvers and causing scissors. Its a great plane to learn how to 'e' fight with.
