Title: Personalized Cockpits
Post by: saantana on December 17, 2009, 11:13:48 AM
Have you ever wondered what 80% of the cockpit gauges are really for? I have, and still do today.

Do you live with a significant other of the opposite sex who does not wish to see other members of their sex on your office/shed/bedroom/garage/classroom/dads or moms office (Wherever the computer you play on is) posing near naked in seductive positions? I do.

If you answered yes to any of the two questions above, then this idea is for you!

While in the Hangar, we select a plane and then choose the new  'Personalize Cockpit' option. Then, we browse through picture files found in 'My Pictures' and choose a spot in the cockpit, where we would 'attach' this picture too, effectively covering the area underneath.

I would certainly prefer a picture of Megan Fox in the spot where my oil gauge is in my Spitfire cockpit. Wouldn't you?

This is an amazing idea.

Oh great, another publication spot for the Wednsday Babe.

-1 Realize that there are minors playing on this site, we don't want to deal with Fegan Mox or whoever that silicone weilding horror story on legs is (not a Christian, I just get enough of this at school, a visual element would make me want to leave).

If this came on the site, my mom would make me leave AH2, and I assume the rest of your under 18 customer base.  Also, if the stuff is there, by law you have to say that there is the possiblity of porn in the game.

On the other hand, getting rid of us squeakers wouldn't sound so bad to you, wouldn't it?

Riddle me that.

Also that may be the worst picture of Megan Fox not featuring her toe thumb I've seen. :bolt:

The scenario you are suggesting would only be a valid argument IF and ONLY IF you chose to personalize YOUR cockpit with the material you yourself suggested.

If your not into Megan Fox, then feel free to place an image of whatever else you feel like.  ;)

And what do you care what I have in my cockpit, if you will never see it anyway? This is a free country after all!

There would be a possibility of hot women inside your cockpit if and only if you chose to put them there. I doubt that law has anything to do with it.

P.S Would your mom really make you leave if she saw a picture of Megan Fox in your cockpit? That should be categorized as child abuse!!!

Wow you got some strict parents and let me emphasize strict a lot on that one. My parents didn't about that stuff at all. Hell its part of growing up, your gonna have to start dealing with it eventually, might as well deal with it while playing your favorite game eh.

Apart from issues relating to adolescence, I think the idea is generally a good first step to be able to costumize in game content, that does not affect other players.

I know HTC's gripe with custom player costumization, but most of it if not all has to do with content that is visible on the plane itself, to other players. That's why skins have to be approved, and then added to the game. This prevents historically incorrect skins, for example. Or me creating a skin that has Megan Fox pictures all over it. Makes sense.

However who cares what I can see inside my own cockpit, apart from me? I think it would add a nice personal touch to every bird we fly. I would have different images in my Spitfire, than I have in my German rides of choice.

Drawing from that analogy, what is there to keep you from making your floor/dash/bulkheads or anything else, transparent?

That would have to be controlled by the implementation. The regular cockpit is still in place, you might just have a nice 3d model of a photo with a custom image, making it look like it was actually modeled into the cockpit model itself. I'm not a graphics expert, but that's how I would imagine the implementation to look like.

Sort of like what we have with squad logos on planes, just your own and in the cockpit, in the spot you choose.

If they allows to put pictures of our girlfriends some of us would be limited to only flying buffs  :devil.

What my parents would worry about is when I switch into another squadmates cockpit.

That's what I don't want, I like playing this game too much!  This is NOT I reap NOT some sort of fundamentalist view, I just want to keep playing!

Ok Penguin, you actually sound sincere about your concern, so how about we include an "quick clear" option for the pilot in the options section of the clipboard to where the pilot can shut down the customized cockpit, immeiately returning the cockpit to the normal view setting so that observers will not be offended....  or as another option how about a setting during the join request interaction to clear the custom cockpit and retun to normal as part of the join request approval procedure....

It would be completely client side... the game can't display a file it doesn't have... and you wouldn't upload the file to any server (talk about a ton of crap).

Post by: saantana on December 21, 2009, 08:49:09 AM
Yes, Motherland got it.

When you 'switch into your friends cockpit' you would not be seeing their customizations. There is nothing the server needs to know about the client cockpits. Squeekers: you have no reason to panic.

This idea is flawless!

Not unless I can help it. I liked the direction that HTC took with the terrain revamp, they made a bold step to catch up with trends. I see this wish as the same kind of step.

Adding newer and newer planes will get boring after a while; I will risk the statement that any new additions will become hangar queens.

Not if we got this bad-boy...

It entered service in 2005, err, 1941...  :pray
