Title: New version?
Post by: Knite on April 12, 2010, 12:44:57 PM
Pyro let slip that Patch 8 is the last before a new version of AH2, and that the new version is close to release.
Soooo... what's the new version got?

I vote for the return of sheep and hills.    :noid

Well, if they feel there is a reason for a new version so soon there must obviously be something wrong with the version we have now.

What are they not telling us?  Am I safe playing the current version?  Toyota all over again?

I think the "New Version" pyro refers to is like a major release.   Where HiTech Creations spends all it's time developing and testing the major release and then spends all it's time pushing out fixes to the last major release in the form of patches, until they have their  next major release ready to go.  or at least that's how it appears to work.....

Small hills for GVs coming back & H2H-type play are slotted for future release (straight from HT) but it's hard to say if they are part of the next major release.  Hopefully AI for AvA & special events will be coming sometime also.

the patch is for the film viewer untill the next version of the film viewer is released, thats how it sounds to me, could be wrong, I havent heard of any beta testing for a game update so it has to be the new viewer

Well, if you are talking about the patch released today, that is different.  He was asking about the "new version", which is not a patch.

For clarification.

A new version would be 2.19.

A new patch would be 2.18 Patch X (where X is an incremented integer value).

It already is. Have you not noticed the revised damage screen listing? There are also new levels of damage like individual H-stabs being shot off.

That is already "pushed to the WW2 arenas" -- we've got it!

What they might do from this point and into the future is to add new things to incorporate that new damage, but it might be only on a new-development basis. Meaning, they might add more wing panels to blow off (instead of just "tip" and "wing" and "full wing"), but it wouldn't apply to the older non-updated models.  <-- doubt that's in the works, but it's a thought.

I would bet we'll see a redone WWII unit or two, brought up to the WWI damage detail level.

Crossing my fingers for the Mossie, but more realistically expecting the A6Ms or Bf110s to be the next on the modernization list due to higher usage.

We might get small hills back for the GVers too.

No, that's unique to the WWI planes. They are unique in their construction and that will not spread over to WW2 planes. When discussing needing to skin secondary "damage" parts on WW2 skins in the future, this was the reply.

You misunderstand me.  I mean the tracking of more damage points and damage states, not graphics.

Is it maybe because the damage states are pretty much there graphically?  Surface damage is already reflected graphically isn't it?  It just doesn't affect flight characteristics.

No, we don't have the full damage system in the WW2 arenas that is being tested in the WW1 arena.  The only thing that has been carried over currently is the exploding pilot when you score a pilot kill, indvidual damage to horizontal stabilizers.  We don't have the other damage like surface damage, etc.

Ack-Ack... I think we currently HAVE it. I just don't think it shows up unless specifically built into new planes. So the damage model is there, but all of the planes in WW2 are too old to make use of it.

I'm thinking all the code is there, it's just that nothing "plugs in" to that code yet.

Wiley: I don't do WW1 much (not my schtick), but from what I've read I thought that surface damage added drag and/or loss of lift? That is, it's not just graphical.

I would think with the Wirb chassis that the pzr4 is high on the list of "easy updates," so I'd bet it's going to be in the next update (or, the "next update that releases updated vehicles").

Lancaster has a lot of use for its bomb load, but there are still a lot of folks flying B-26s, Ki67s, and a bunch of the older models. We know that bombers take more time because they are more involved. What's the most used fighter with a 1.0 3D model?

I'm placing my bet here: I'm going to say Panzer, A6M zeroes, and F4Fs (that's in order of "Good bet, good guess, and just plain wishing")

I was thinking of re-modeled existing planes, rather than "new planes" -- which traditionally take a lot more time and we usually get sneak peeks towards the end. None of that so far, so I limited myself to refurbished models only.

Well as the CO, Druileáil Teagascóir, and Lámh Cathaoirleach Ginearálta of the Irish Air Force, I order that all of the squadron's aircraft be fitted with said customizations. unlike the SAPP, the Irish Air Force takes care of its flyboys

Couldn't hep but noticing the WW I attempt didn't work out so well, but I guess A few people like it.

And yet I am having more fun in there than I ever had in any of the main arenas.  Great thing about that arena is it only takes 8 to 10 players to make it fun.

8- 10 is fun, 20 can be a total hoot.
But it does help to  have your head on right.

The only customizing your plane is going to get is a changing table for the diaper change and a holder for your sippy cup.
