yep seems everytime i've watched a video lately its been silent because youtube has removed the soundtrack.
I don't think they don't know it yet but their ruining themselves.
-
the ten minute rule has been there for years...
-
You can't really blame YouTube for it, companies want to protect their copyrighted material and they have the right to do so. It's your opionion if that is right or wrong but YouTube has to respect those copyright laws. The latest Google v. Viacom ruling however sets the president that it's the copyright owner's responsibility to protect it's copyright. Here is a good article explaining the ruling some more: http://news.tubefilter.tv/2010/06/26/googleyoutube-v-viacom-safe-harbors-and-the-new-police/ (http://news.tubefilter.tv/2010/06/26/googleyoutube-v-viacom-safe-harbors-and-the-new-police/).

Ignoring the law can ruin a company pretty quickly too ;)

If you video is informational you can contest the copy right and win every time.
the thing i cant stand about youtube now is all the ads all over the videos and having to wait for videos to load while being shown ads.
-
lol

I have a firefox ad blocker so i don't see any of those ads :D

Well , how is Vimeo getting away with it (copy rights) ? There site is 100 time's the site youtube was or will ever be and there going down fast with those adds and so on .

I for one have never heard of Vimeo before this thread, once their videos start getting as many as YouTube's does, then the companies will likely start protecting their copyright laws there. The company will need more money to grow and fight all the lawsuits, so they'll start selling ads before their videos until a new site comes along. However, YouTube has become a name synonymous with the internet, like google (who own's them) and I don't see it going away any time soon.
-
They mite not be going away soon but if people like me and my friend's quit using it it mite . I will not use it any more and am going to spreed the word about Vimeo ..
-
Then again copyright infringement can be expensive..... maybe vimeo will go away.
..... and what Jayhawk said!
-
Vimeo is not going any where .. There not based in the state's and they are taking thing's over fast .
-
What makes Vimeo so much better? I've been playing around with it and don't see anything special.
-
Seem's they don't delete your music in your video's like youtube and you don't have the ads .

No ads. It seems everything has inline ads now. YT vids, shows on CBS.com etc.
And they don't take the music away.

?
As soon as Vimeo gets big enough for companies to care about it, they'll either start taking down copyrighted materials or be sued into oblivion.
-
As small as they are at this point, I'm not surprised companies aren't interested in buying ad space.
I see Vimeo like that abstract band your music friend is all into. Then the band gets a hit song and the friend doesn't like them anymore because they went "mainstream."
I don't think you can provide what YouTube does without advertising and channels for companies to protect their copyright.

INCORRECT
Youtube is a Private Entity, they have every right to take down any video/music/ or text as they please or see fit without your consent.

True, they can take down anything they want for any reason.
But, as Flight17 said, there is The Doctrine of Fair Use (http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html).
Kind of a stretch regarding music in a video though.

Seem's they don't delete your music in your video's like youtube and you don't have the ads .
Then make your own music or make a video good enough to add ads that bring you money. Just read the upload rules and ask permission to the copyrighter. Also, some raw videos are MUCH better without any (copyrighted) music at all.
-
easyer to post on Vimeo , lol .
-
I would like to add that once you resolved copyright issues it does not mean it's any better. In some countries these videos are blocked from viewing, which sucks.
I know because.. 50% of the FPV videos hosted on youtube are blocked for me for viewing due to copyright restrictions.
It's very annoying. It's not youtube's fault per say, but other hosts do not have to enforce this (probably because they're not as big)
I would like to add that Vimeo and Dailymotion are two alternatives which provide quick and good quality HD video and both actually support playing on mobile devices such as the iPhone or Android. (Flash and Flashless versions).

The one thing i don't like about Vimeo is the upload limits. With youtube you can upload as many videos you want, not the case with vimeo. Vimeo charges you to have unlimited access. Free wins every time.
-
You can add music to your videos just put in the description:
"I do not own the rights to the song used, it is used for entertainment purposes only" or something...

Youtube is owned by google.

Yeah but only 10 minute's at a time , lol.
-
I prefer Hulu myself.

Considering 90%+ of youtube videos are probably less than 3 minutes, that's not really that big of a deal. When's the last time you watched through a youtube video that's longer than like 7-8 minutes?
Youtube is owned by google.
Google is not a private company?
-

Anyone else subscribe to nutnfancy, good luck finding a video shorter than 10 minutes. :rofl That guy could talk about a pencil for a hour. I don't know exactly how it works but he partners with YouTube and has the ability to post longer videos.
-
Yeah nutnfancy or trappy or any of the FPV rc guy's , there all over 10 minute's .
-
Half of the aces high vids I cannot watch on youtube "in my country" because Sony or whoever doesn't want me too. I am sure they suffer huge losses from a dude posting an aces high clip with some music. Yes, that is it - why buy music when you can listen aces high vids for free? Damn pirates!

Because international corporations are rich and greedy and Youtube has to bend to their will.

You can buy google stock, must be public.
-
Ads, huh? Haven't seen an ad on the internet in years. You ought to describe to me what those are like again.
*cough* (http://adblockplus.org/en/)
-
We got 15 minute's now but the quilty still suuuks ...
-

Private = Companies
Public = Government Owned
Stocks DOES NOT = Public
You are mistaking publicly traded vs public. There is a difference.
Please do some homework before you type.

Thank you, Youtube is Google.

Just press that dang F5 button to refresh the page and skip them ads or type the comment " 0:01 " and then click on that (Won't work on powerful ads). While you are at it, read the comments or click the add itself to give the guy that posted the video a little credit money (which by the way is legal money). If you think Youtube is trash just because of the ads, you are deluding yourself, get used to the 21st century of Internet entertainment... or if that is not it, you are not searching well enough for quality content (what i mean by quality in Internet standards: not really high).
Think of it as watching TV but with a couple thousand channels for much lesser of a cost. Some guys get 15,000 to 30,000$ a month from this website's adds and make a life working full time out of it, respect that.
Forgive my temper, I'm a little bit pro-youtuber
-

Yup, and that explains a lot right there.. But youtube has become too big to ignore copyright issues..

This is funny.
Private = I own the company in it's entirety. I control it.
Public = I have sold pieces of my company to the public in the form of Stock Certificates. I am beholden to my Stock Holders, as they are also owners.
Nothing to do the "teh goverment".
:noid
You should take your own advice. :rofl

Ah, so I guess the privatization and nationalization of industries has nothing to do with the gov't then.
Public health care just means that the companies are publicly traded.
Someone should have brought this up a couple of years ago.

Flench and friends= maybe 3 :D other youtube users= millions.
I might look into vimeo though.

I started using Vimeo recently and I prefer it to Youtube, HOWEVER, if you don't pay for a subscription, your video gets put on a waitlist to complete. Sometimes that will take 90 minutes, so if you're not in a hurry, Vimeo is the way to go.
The advantage of Youtube, in my case, is that my 52" Panasonic plasmas with Viera allows me to view Youtube on the plasma TV without being hooked up to a computer...with Vimeo, I have to hook up my laptop to the Plasma to show Vimeo videos I've produced.
Incidently, here is the USS Midway, which we toured in San Diego last week-end. Just a 3 min HD movie for fun.

I don't upload video, but like watching informational videos with history. I have been starting to use liveleak.com. I will have to try vimeo.
-
From what I can tell, VIMEO was designed more for people doing low budget videos. My employer did one with professional camera and sound crews and posted it there for public consumption. I dont think its meant to be a YOUTUBE replacement at all. They have their own niche.

All of us RC flyer's have change over to Vimeo . I have 89 member's just in my group with over 200 video's .
-
Flench, free vimeo or are you paying?
-
Tube Stop is an add on for firefox, it will prevent any commercials from playing before a video when said video is viewed outside the main channel page.
-
Flench, free vimeo or are you paying?
This year I will pay for it . The only thing that I don't like about Vimeo is the waiting the hour before it go's live . Witch is no big deal really for the quality that you get and I get to use the music I want .
-
Youtube just bumped up the video limit to 15 mins.

Or even longer if you don't post videos you don't have the rights to post. They don't seem to care about "borrowing" audio though.
-
The nice thing about the internet SO FAR, is that its a vehicle for entertainment with a few seconds of commercials thrown in. As opposed to cable tv that is a vehicle for commercials with a few seconds of lousy shows thrown in. And we pay for it.
