With the steep mountains and stunning terrain on the Mindnao Map, it made a great day for a jeep trek. What a view...
(http://dasmuppets.com/public/Grizz/Poor Jeep/1.jpg)
Another angle, you can see the stunning beauty of the mountain range. But wait, what is that? A jet?
(http://dasmuppets.com/public/Grizz/Poor Jeep/1a.jpg)
Oh noes!!! A jet coming to kill a poor jeep on his trek up the mountain, how rude...
(http://dasmuppets.com/public/Grizz/Poor Jeep/0.jpg)
He tries to evade, and salvage his scenic joy ride, which most likely took the better part of the afternoon to make it this far...
(http://dasmuppets.com/public/Grizz/Poor Jeep/2.jpg)
But alas, it is futile. The Mk108 30mm round ends the journey.

That was rude grizz, couldn't you find a furball to better use them 30's :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl.
semp
-
Poor little fella never had a chance. :(
-
Have you no heart?!
-
He had to have been working on that climb for awhile. There was no spawn into the base he was nearly at, and the closest base belonging to him was over a sector away. You ruined someones night.

:rofl
-
 poor guy
-
That guy was just out trying to have some fun, you shoulda just let him go on his merry way. That was a d**k move.
But then again, noone cares anymore.
-
Grizz if that was you in the jeep out screwing around and someone wrecked it just because they could I'd wonder about the guy who did it. Sad to see you'd be on the shooting end of it.
If that's the Muppets 'owning', then the Muppets have lost sight of what they are about. They ought to be classier then that.
-
Just a thought... It was probably another Muppet.
Edit: Nope, it was Sputniks.

I can't remember the name right now, but there is that certain vet player that is constantly saying "we don't lose our lives, and planes are for free, just up another one."
I guess that's true for cartoon jeeps too ;)

Anyone expect different from a 262 picktard driver?
-
I'd have taken pot shots at 262 ;)

I can see both sides here. Bottom line, if its red, its fair game. Kill it.
-
The part that makes worse is grizz's statement about owning... really get off yourself
-
Muppets classy? Since when? Look, everyone hates us and we hate everyone - especially each other.
Besides, I think the think the point about free cartoon machines is a good one which is why it's okay to take his away.

I like the Muppets Bat, unless you guys are making talk on vox after visiting the garage and I am having a munchie attack!!!!
-
So people cant kill jeeps in jets....but we can shoot parachutes.....this community needs to get some kinda order to it
-
Sputniks knew the risks he was taking when he did it near enemy territory. Like it or not, this can't be argued. Why? If he wanted to do the run and not have the possibility of being shot down, he would have simply gone further behind the front lines.. not RIGHT on top of it. Grizz somehow located him, which the odds were against that as well and had every right to shoot him down. You and I might have chosen differently, but this was not any one's choice besides Grizz's. The only thing I could fault Grizz for is "owned" comment. We can see this by the pictures, no need to rub salt in the wound.
-
Actually I'd leave a jeep way out in the mountains alone. They are having their own fun. They are no threat to anything.
Chutes get shot when close to base to keep the guy from pinpointing items for buffs or Naval guns.
Completely different premise.
-
I find the 80th's affinity for free cartoon Jeeps to be quite touching.
-
We jeep as a group for fun sometimes. Just trying to keep from falling through holes to china is a trick all it's own. Interesting what you see in the mountains sometimes.

Kappa and I were VERY threatened by the jeep's presence there. Had he made it to the top of that mountain, he would have been able to get his laser sight out, paint our base, and call in the air force to completely discimate it. No. There was only one option, and that was to own the jeep with 30mms. The only indecision was whether I was going to shoot him or if kappa was going to shoot him. Ownt! :rofl
-
When I first saw your pics, I though, "Damn, that was beyond wrong."
But after watching the video.... :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

We also had an ambulance on standby as we thought kappa was going to die of laughter...he was going for about 5 minutes straight... :noid

Looking at that sequence, about all that comes to mind is 'Yep, that's Grizz.'
The idea that something was 'mean' though... This entire game is about being 'mean' to people. We're all trying to do unto others before they do unto us in one way or another, either by shooting their cartoon plane down or by blowing up their base to win teh warz.
I mean really people, it's not like he ate a kitten there. That was later on in the evening.
Wiley.

I don't believe for a second it's about being 'mean' to people. Bottom line for me is it's a privilege to get to play the game and be a pretend cartoon fighter pilot. As a kid, 'flying' the slapped together model airplanes we built, was as close as we ever thought we'd get with our imaginations. When the flight sims came along it was an answer to all those days of pretending. Getting to 'fly' against other people was even more of a privilege. I feel some responsibility to the new guys coming in and how I present myself in the arenas, and how I play the game is the best way I can think of to pass that responsibility on, just like those folks who set the example for me all those years ago now in Airwarrior.
It's not just about me in the game, it's about all of us and how we interact and pass on what the game is about. How many threads have we had over the years about the game changing and folks doing things to wreck it. To me, blowing up this guy out just screwing around in a jeep is along the lines of killing the FHs or CV where the only decent fight in the arena is going on, just because you can. It serves no purpose other then to ruin someone elses fun.
Throw in that it's a visible 'name' player from a very visible 'name' squad and the message is loud and clear to the newbies. It's not about respecting the fun of other players or encouraging it. It's about playing "whack a mole' and screwing up others fun because you can.
Candy Mountain jeep run. The thread title said it all. Candy Mountain runs in AH have always been about doing something silly, whether it be a Val fighter sweep or trying to get jeeps to fly off the mountains.
When I read the thread title I looked in and immediately took the screenshots to be Grizz out having some fun in a jeep. I wondered to myself what idiot had nothing better to do then shoot up Grizz's jeep with a 262. Only on looking closer did I see it was Grizz playing the part of the 262 driver. Then it was just sad. Grizz isn't some newbie without a clue. He knows better.
And yeah Grizz the planes are free, but the time isn't.
-
And yeah Grizz the planes are free, but the time isn't.
Dan, mean no disrespect here, but someone in a jeep that far away from everything is just asking for it.. Time isnt free, but how you choose to use it is..
Also, if he wanted to do that just for kicks, he should have done it in offline mode.. Otherwise he should have been expecting to get killed at some point.. If it wasnt Grizz, it would have been someone else eventually..
Just my $.02

So shoot a jeep and you're the anti-Chirst? There is some serious hypocritical bs going on in this thread. I highly doubt any of you who claim to be offended or the rest jumping on the bandwagon would shed one tear if it was Grizz's jeep. I would bet more than a few :rofl :rofl :rofl would be posted. But you guys feel free to show your cartoon bellybutton here. :aok

I was surprised to see the jeep wasnt even trying to shoot him. That said I guess the thing is, stuff like this is gonna happen ingame no matter who it is. Once you reach a point where is just doesnt matter, you are no fun to kill anymore. Be it killing someone who doesnt GAF, or being killed and having that attitude. The only people worth killing are the "Mouths" who you know try very hard to stay alive, and get all worked up when they die.

I think SkyRock's definition of ownage is most accurate. It's somewhere along the lines of:

Explain how strafing jeeps fits into that category.

Fair enough, Guppy. Honestly I see it as kind of a bastard move to look at the entirety of the situation, and make the conscious decision to whack the guy. However, expecting a free pass in a war zone because you're just out messing around isn't reasonable to expect in an online game. Like I said, 'That's Grizz.'
If I were up in a Val deep behind enemy lines, just dicking around, would it be reasonable to expect them not to shoot me down? I think not. The tactics and movements of ground vehicles are 99% a mystery to me. I might, given the right circumstance see that jeep and be thinking 'I don't know what he's doing there, but he's red. He must be up to no good.' and kill him. I don't know. I might not even notice where we are on the map, just that there's a red icon on the ground there, and boom.
As far as showing the newbies what the game's about, just my humble opinion here, but I don't believe most people coming in here are blank slates looking to the longer time players for guidance on how to behave. Most are probably pretty used to online gaming and as such have already formed a good deal of their rules for interacting with people online.
The one thing that has struck me about online flight sims is that they kind of developed uniquely in the online gaming world. The main thrust for a good number of the early adopters and just the community in general wasn't the fact that it was an online video game, but rather that it was a fair simulation of something they really really wanted to do, had dreamed of doing all their lives in some cases. It is a different mentality from pretty much all other online games, because other online games pretty much evolved out of gaming.
I guess what I'm trying to say is if you ask most people why they play First Person Shooters, it's because they're fun games. The early adopters of Doom or Duke Nukem weren't interested in killing demons or aliens in real life and looking for a way to simulate that experience. The same applies to most online games, they developed purely as a game, an entertainment medium. Not as a simulation of something people follow as a hobby like aviation or World War history.
Air to air combat in WWI and WWII was a unique phenomenon, it's something that will probably never be recreated again in human history. We'll never again have that special mix of technological innovation over the course of a short period of time coupled with the necessity for the men who were doing it to have an amazing level of skill to survive and prevail against the enemy. It's unique, and it's why I think most of us enjoy these kinds of sims over later war stuff. It's no fun for me to lock on a missile from over the horizon to kill another aircraft. We want to get in close, and kill them with guns.
I think most of the guys who have been around for a long time came at it from more of the aircraft hobbyist perspective, or the history buff aspect. It's a much different mindset from your average online gamer, and online gamers is the pool we're drawing a good deal of the newbies from. For a sample of what you're missing, log into XBox live playing an FPS like Halo or Gears of War sometime, then come back to AH and fall to your knees in joy, thanking whatever higher power you believe in that those people aren't on Vox in here.
Now not all of the longer time people are necessarily hugs and puppies. From what I've seen of Grizz and most of the Muppets they play hard, and seem to enjoy being the antagonists, enjoying ticking people off. *shrug* It's their deal, if you don't like what they're doing in game stop them if you can. It seems to be what they're about and what they want.
VonMessa- :rofl

That jeep wasn't firing cause he was outta ammo.. I'd been thru that pass a couple times already and he was steady plinking away.. but was on a different side of the mountain.. hell ya hes fair game and got OWNT! lol
been a long time since I laughed so hard in game.. lmao
you guys are killing me with the pro-jeep whines! hehe My only question is, I wonder if the dude will do it again? lmao

Skyrock can have his definition of pwnage if he wants.
The original Muppet definition of pwnage was coined by the blue haired Mr. Monster when he put the smack down on cookie after cooookie. Those were his cookies and he pwnd them until they got in his belly. Nom. Nom. Nom. Nom.
That jeep was Grizz's and he pwnd him into his belly. Nom. Nom. Nom. Nom.
Capice?
And Dan, I love ya etc, etc, etc and I respect you tremendously but dayum, trying to make the world a better place by the way you play a cartoon wargame where the object is to kill the other guy (who really doesn't die and who get his machines for free as you have pointed out ad naseum) is a bit misguided.

Looks to me like a typical MA situation. Very reminicent of an elementary school playground:
1. Amanda hops on a swing and starts swinging.
2. Joey walks up to Amanda and knocks her off the swing.
3. Amanda cries.
4. Joey gets on swing and starts laughing. Joey pwned Amanda.
In fact, most of the time the MAs is nothing more than just that, a playground full of kids. Such is the way of AH. I personally wounldnt have shot the jeep if I was the 262. I would have spent my valuable time shooting the red guys in the air. Granted, I do have a tendency to strafe GVs in 262s, but that is only on tanks at vehicle spawns.

Me neither.
'Course, that's mostly because I would have been so worried about plowing into the mountainside that it would be a dead certainty that I would have, and I'm sure that the guy would have filmed it, and I don't think I have deep enough pockets to keep word of the true depths of my dweebishness from getting out ... ;)

Probably..... both looking for a fight in that instance. Apples and oranges.
This jeep was not close to any base or field. It was obvious what he was doing.
Chose your path.....

'Course, that's mostly because I would have been so worried about plowing into the mountainside that it would be a dead certainty that I would have, and I'm sure that the guy would have filmed it, and I don't think I have deep enough pockets to keep word of the true depths of my dweebishness from getting out ... ;)

Nice! That is what I was going for. :lol

:aok

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
when i first started playing this game i was told by a long term player that "if you chose up it expect some else to choose to down it". he stated this in reference to my biotchen about being bombed to pieces after i upped an PT boat in an effort to learn how to launch missiles and aim and fire torpedoes. now where i had chosen to do this was actually over a full sector away from the nearest enemy base or fight. a lone fighter/bomber happened along carrying extra eggs as i was sitting there minding my own business, and pop I'm in the CV P.O.ed that i couldn't be left alone.
my point is that the statement that the long term player made sank in and i realized that this IS a game, that it IS based upon yours/your opponents intended destruction of whatever ride you/your opponent chooses to up. the entire purpose and driving force behind this game is to seek out your adversary in what ever ride he has chosen to take and send him forth with back to the tower to receive his warm cup of coffee and a brandy new nicely polished ride of his choice.
if that is too much for people to handle or understand then those people should return to first person shooters that they can set the difficulty level to wussy on.
had i been in the jeep i would have baited the 262's and hoped to get one of them to auger in while trying to kill me! the bragging rights of killing (not vulching) a 262 while in a jeep would be monumental!! and you could probably make a reasonable bet that that film would definitely have made its way to the BBS.
by the standards alluded to by some in this thread i must call out to enemy bombers on 200 before engaging them, as we all know some of these bomber jockeys will start out 3 sectors back from the lines. what if they have been in the air for more than an hour, should i give them a pass? what about a half hour? how about 15 minutes? is there a reasonable time in which i must engage them after their take off?
you up it ill kill it! i expect the same from anyone who should encounter me out roaming around.
wanna go for a joy ride, well there is a car in the driveway. wanna play a game that is based upon the virtual destruction of you or your opponents ride? well then WELCOME TO ACES HIGH II

films plz ;)
The actual time may be a bit off but he did two runs of something like 20 and 21 back to back.

Not that hard to do...
Some day I'll come back and slap the toejam out of all of you.
I was hoping to see the jet auger too. :)

yes.. thats correct..
hey guys.. yall aren't looking at the lining to this grey cloud of jeep parts laying all around candy mountain's eastern face... maybe the guy decided he enjoyed jeep'n so much hes going to go out and buy him a kickass 86 cj7... guy thinks to himself... Hey! I can go 4-wheeling in THIS thing and not have a random me262 fly by and fill my gas tank with 30mms... I mean, I can go jeep'n for real! I can find my own mountains to climb.. I don't have to worry about falling through a hole you can't see toward china.. well, maybe worry about it a little.. pretty soon he meets other jeep'rs and is going on jeep trips with real folk! First trail is a 3 terrace high climb right infront of him and he thinks.. wtf?? noway i can do that!! Then, the jeep infront of him powers over and he says to himself, well.. if that guy did it.. so can I! His journey has just begun!

Probably..... both looking for a fight in that instance. Apples and oranges.
This jeep was not close to any base or field. It was obvious what he was doing.
Chose your path.....
Sure, I understand exactly what everyone is saying.
Corky has a very valid point and one that would improve the gameplay and community attitude, there is no doubt.
But it's happened already, if we can all have a laugh about it and take Corky's message on board.
The funny part is that Grizz made us think it would be some mad hatter's tea party in jeeps on a mountain which we've seen many times, when really it was an evil muppet death cruiser advertisment. Being tricked harmlessly is funny.
-
You evidently did not read Dan's post above.

Yeah, I guess you guys operate on a higher plane where the true meaning of killing a pretend jeep in a video game leads to the path of the darkside. I'm glad I don't get it.

1. Amanda hops on a swing and starts swinging.
2. Joey walks up to Amanda and knocks her off the swing.
3. Amanda cries.
4. Joey gets on swing and starts laughing. Joey pwned Amanda.
That oddly described our sortie the other night over some poor Rookie base.
ack-ack

"Grizz is a bully".....lol (that made me laugh out loud)
"shouldn't have killed the jeep" oh man the responses in this thread are funnier then the pics :rofl :rofl :rofl
the jeep is far game, in a game about killing the red guy,
I would have done the same, except the results would have been different.....my 30mm would have missed by 100 feet(or more), my 262 would have made a pretty explosion, and the jeep driver would have been the one laughing his arse off, and posting a film of me angering trying to kill his jeep :furious
-
Less mediate, more DA! Show up

gimme about an hour and im your target

:rofl now maybe if Grizz killed him with a jeep it would have been funny but a 262 is just overkill
Wellll, I didn't have a jeep I had a 262.
My only regret is not letting Kappa kill him, since he spotted him. :cry
Sorry Kappa! :lol

Not some higher plane Slash. You get it despite trying to speak to the contrary. That DFC badge in your avatar should confirm that.
Grizz gets it too. He wanted a reaction and he got one. I'm still not impressed. Who cares if he shot down 40 birds in a 262. He's a better stick than the majority of the players in the game. Shoot down 40 from below them in a lesser bird and I'll be impressed. Take that ability and put it into making it a better game for everyone.
For all the time spent complaining about the decline of game play, it still falls on the players to change it. When the 'name' guys in the 'name' squads don't help the cause, there is little chance the new guys are going to do it any different.

The message Corky is saying is true, he is right about the gameplay aspects. There was a time when the jet pilot might have typed on channel 'hello' as he zooomed past the jeep. He's not saying Grizz is soley to blame, he's just using an example here to clarify his point.
It's all good guys, we can laugh and discuss the game ethics at the same time, surely, without anyone needed to get defencive.
-
No weight at all Sunbat. Just kinda figure it's common courtesy in dealing with people. We'll apparently have to agree to disagree on player's responsibility to each other. It won't change how I feel about the vets in the game and the tone they set.

So even though, as Kappa stated, the jeep had been firing at him, and was likely the only way anyone would have even known it was there, it's unethical to kill it? Playing the "DFC" card over this? :huh

Nah, I'm done Bear. Clearly the 2 veteran 262 drivers were in imminent danger from some guy in a jeep in the middle of nowhere. What was I thinking! :)

I like how this thread is another representation of how Guppy is the classiest person in AH2. :aok :salute
I am not gonna take sides, but I can clearly see both sides of the argument. It also brings up a valid argument on NOT killing something that is not an immediate threat to you, a new look on the game for some players, and somewhat for me. 90% of the populous kill whatever they can. Guppy and some others are exceptions.
This thread had potential to begin a good discussion but it looks as if its all but dead :frown:

Not really. It would of been bloody murder if he just wanted to screw around in the jeep and some nub ruined it. I respect AOM, but this is that kind of "funny" when you see an old person slip and fall, keep it to yourself, because if other ppl see you laugh, youll look like a real d**k. :salute

Tongue in cheek
Meaning
In an ironic manner, not meant to be taken seriously.
Origin
This phrase clearly alludes to the facial expression created by putting one's tongue in one's cheek. This induces a wink (go on - try it), which has long been an indication that what is being said is to be taken with a pinch of salt. It may have been used to suppress laughter. 'Tongue in cheek' is the antithesis of the later phrase - 'with a straight face'.
The term first appeared in print in 'The Fair Maid of Perth', by that inveterate coiner of phrases, Sir Walter Scott, 1828:
"The fellow who gave this all-hail thrust his tongue in his cheek to some scapegraces like himself."
It isn't entirely clear that Scott was referring to the ironic use of the expression. A later citation from Richard Barham's The Ingoldsby Legends, 1845 is unambiguous though:
He fell to admiring his friend's English watch.
He examined the face,
And the back of the case,
And the young Lady's portrait there, done on enamel, he
Saw by the likeness was one of the family;
Cried 'Superbe! Magnifique!' (With his tongue in his cheek)
Then he open'd the case, just to take a peep in it, and
Seized the occasion to pop back the minute hand.

Took old Sputniks 40 mins just to get up that hill. Then down came the rain, that's just mean.

Wiley.
I read your first sentence and stopped. It negated anything else you may have typed.
It's a game.

Ya know, I have been ganged, picked, or otherwise unfairly killed by most in this thread at some point or another including Dan. when I see folk take this rotflmao situation and try to make it out to be anything else only hypocrisy comes to my mind. Sorry, I don't need as much in this GAME.

Look, I think the real issue here is jealously that you guys didn't find a jeep in the middle of nowhere to shoot at. Don't be upset, I'm sure you'll find one real soon. Keep your eyes peeled, you will see jeeps I promise!! :O

hey Grizz why dont we have a Muppet jeep jaunt night? you know once a month all Muppet's must spend at least an hour in a jeep running around the country side???
we could call it "getting even with the Muppet's for owning me" hour. maybe then some of the leg humping will come to an end.

You know..
Openly admiting Jeepacide is not easy, we should credit grizz at least with honesty.
Underlying issues have come up but initialy it was brave to admit this.
After we get through it all we will no doubt laugh together.
Long and hard!
Laughter is the best medicine.
So, no need for hostility now, points have been made on both sides and differences accepted.
Usualy Skuzzy would have locked this anyhow, but he seems to be growing tierd of the constant bickering of late.
Continuing the discusion now hoefully will only be for laughs.
Knowledge is key to understanding, so at least we all understand each other better now.

Since you have brought up Jeepicide
Our responsibility is to prevent it
Do you not agree?
Or do you no feel any pity for the poor Jeep involved?
You must realize, there IS only one...
O|||||||O
Understanding that is the key
-
I can see your point.
Do nothing and we are also criminals?
Only in some dream world.
Not only is it impossible to stop them, but expensive.
Too expensive to wipe out completely.
This is easy.
Historicaly jeepacide went on alot.
In modern times it will still happen.
Nothing we do will end it for good.
Knowledge, again I will say, is understanding.
Sometimes I imagine a world free of jeepacide.
Only then will our children be safe.
-
I am glad this thread is through. Because my
<3 breaks for the jeeps.
Because they are so small and cute
All wheel drive and guns so small.
Too wittle to shoot, too big to fall
So say we all.

Perhaps you should review what you are saying
Rules can be made to stop the senseless jeep killing
Only then will Jeeps be safe
Virtual Jeepicide is the same as real Jeepicide
Everyone needs to get with the program
I feel very strongly about this
Thanks for listening

Corky if you took this thread seriously, you broke your own rule me thinks... it was all in fun. Heck, even sputniks got a 10+ page thread out of it! He never would have gotten that if we hadn't pwned his lil ol jeep as it trucked up the mountain! Win Win for everybody! :lol

Sometimes grizz, by passing up a chance to piss on an ant, you are a better human being for it. Not always, maybe not even most of the time, but certainly sometimes :rock

Anytime I see a red jeep anywhere (maybe even a green jeep cuz I don't like jeeps anymore), I am going to blow it up or auger trying. Call me the villain if you must. :lol

if there is an ant in the radius of my whizz stream, u know i'm trying to pee on him. now, i don't have the grizz aim, so i usually wind up stomping the ant with the foot i didn't piss on.

Are you a defender of the jeep or does your heart bleed for the jeep? There is a difference of at least 4 magnitudes.

It looks like you have everything turned off.

Grizz,
Go into options - graphic detail -advanced options and play with the settings. Just watch out for smooth shadowing and shadowing on others settings as they are a real frame rate killers.
-
Actually what happened was the game turned my advanced settings off during a bad entrance freeze and I guess I never turned it back on. Shows how much I care about eye candy hehe
