Apparently there is a thing going on where everyone needs to change their profile picture to a cartoon character till monday for anti-child abuse, so do it!
-BigBOBCH
-
I did!
I kinda stole Babalonians avatar though.
-
umm how will a cartoon profile pic stop drunk dad from beating his kids? :uhoh
in other news, we all need to donate $10, because the millionaires stars won't tweet or use facebook until we all raise $1,000,000! Hurry I must know what kim kardashian and other celebs ate for lunch!
-
Another social fab that people do in droves not actually knowing why they are doing it.
Anyone ever heard of No Shave November? It was originally to raise awareness for prostate cancer but now it's just the 'cool' thing to do.
-
(...) everyone needs to change their profile picture to a cartoon character till monday for anti-child abuse
Is the anti-child something like the anti-christ? Or is that calling for the abuse of adults (which I would condemns like I do condemn any abuse)?
-
what's facebook and a tweet?
-
We have Movember here for the same reason. It usually means I have to shave to participate.

Yeah, they have competitions around here for it.
-
Social fads are for sheeple
This deserves to be a quote of the day.
-
If you need a cartoon character to remind you that child abuse exists, you've got bigger problems.
-
Everyone change your profile picture to a sheep to stop the sheeple mindset!

I know where you're coming from. I used to get up a bit early for work and watch the kids cartoon program with them in the morning, Spiderman, The X-Men, The Tick and other great cartoons with some form of storyline. Over the period of about two years all this stuff was replaced by Japanese cartoons. Cheap rubbish really.

not sure if you're born in the late 80s...
but if you've seen thundercats on Cartoon Network in the mid 90s and loved it, then you were subconsiously watching "anime"
-
Oh wow I must do this to help stop someone who doesn't have a facebook page and will not ever see this on television because he is too drunk to notice this on NBC.
-
Seriously, what is that?

say what? a lot of anime has wayy better animation than american cartoons (especially nowadays), not too mention a few hundred episodes worth of story line. Now I like tom and jerry as much as the next person but we all knew tom was never gotta get him and every episode was gonna be a fail attempt. :D
If anime is cheap rubbish what is this?
its like animators don't even have to know how to draw anymore

Yea...cause peekatchoo is dead, right? Or did they not ever get him?

BagRat did you look at the cartoons I mentioned, these were replaced by rubbish like Naruto.
Edit Dragonball Z is rubbish.

That's why instead of cartoon pictures, they should use lemmings.
ack-ack

My son and fellow pilot Easy7G, now serving "somewhere in the middle east" put it this way (censored by me for the kiddies' sake):
Why the f*** is everyone changing the profile pictures to f***ing cartoons, this is the f***ing dumbest thing since g****** doppleganger week...........
Well, there goes his Mr. Congeniality award :(

What was the deal with the "freedom fries" thing back years ago? I still havent understood a thing about it

Its to raise awareness about child abuse. Some of you are on here talking crap about fads and stuff but I bet most of you buy those little pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness. Tell me how this is any different?

1. I actually don't
2. The difference? Breast Cancer awareness and the whole pink campaign... works. It's simple and actually raises awareness and money. Okay, now everyone knows your favorite childhood cartoon, I'm aware of child abuse now.

So you think your $1 actually helps? I hardly think so, after all the money that has gone into trying to stop cancer.

at least when you buy the little ribbon you donate some small amount which may add up to something if enough people do it. Some sort of attempt is being made, changing a profile pic is about as helpful as a supportive fart.
Given the money may not be effective at all, a cancer patient may like to see that some sort of positive attempt is being made. Whereas a abused child may see this more as a slap to the face as it does absolutely nothing but still gives people a reason to pat themselves on the back. Maybe like if u were getting jumped by a group of people and when it all done a friend standing to the side says "hey check out this new dance, it means I think what just happened to you is wrong" wow thx
-
IMHO - "Support" hardly counts when it doesn't cost anything, and when it doesn't do anything other than make the "supporter" feel like he's doing good.
And honestly - how does seeing a cartoon avatar make the unaware person aware of child abuse? If he heard about the sheeple thing, he was already aware, and if he hadn't heard about it how can he know why everybody has Scooby Do up instead of their own pictures?
-
I don't think it's so much that everyone wants to change their profile picture, but they feel like they are making a difference, and letting other people know that they care.
I changed mine, because I wanted other people to know that I care (although I changed it to quagmire)
-
friggin stupid idea, whoever said that it was something for people to slap themselves on the back, and ''helping'' for awarness hit the nail on the head. and just so some of you know, abusers are not always drunks. some you'd never know unless you saw it with your own eyes, and that they save special for the ones they ''love'' so an outsider will never see it.
-
So you think your $1 actually helps? I hardly think so, after all the money that has gone into trying to stop cancer.
$1... no, that probably won't help.
The $301,328,691 donated last year alone or
the $1,500,000,000 raised over the life of the Susan G. Komen foundation might have a little impact.
Just last year, the Susan G. Komen foundation spent about $70 million on research, $135 million on health education, $40 million on health screenings, and $22 million on treatment services.
As for cancer research as a whole, $70 million only makes up a small percentage of the research funding sure. But are you going to look me in the eye, no better yet; are you going to look a Cancer survivor in the eye, or the daughter of a woman who lost her battle with cancer and tell me that breast cancer awareness is inconsequential?

It's the easy way out, why actually donate or volunteer when you can just change your facebook picture and suddenly you're sensitive, caring, and helping?

I play bass at a church on Sundays, during the week I volunteer at an old folks home by my house, but I also run in relay for life every year.
I also changed my facebook profile picture to a cartoon character.

Good, I didn't mean to imply that people didn't do anything, but which one of those do you think actually has an impact on people's lives?
-
I wear a pink ribbon everyday, for me it's a personal thing to show support for my wife who is a breast cancer survivor. What you do with your facebook is your thing, but remember they are doing this for what, one month? So for the other eleven months nobody but a select few care. People in similar situations to me show our support and care on a daily basis year round and no it isn't to make us feel better.

Ahhh... I know that stuff.
I'm not on facebook, but I have a profile on tiny local german "social community"...
Recently, mainly lesser educated middle aged women started to have a cut&paste text with rantings about abusers, misguided facts about them never get punished and so on. The usual crowd knowledge. And at the end an appeal "If you are against abuse, copy this text into your profile".
I already had two private messages asking why I don't have that text copied into my profile and asking me if I do not condemn abuse of children

Ironically- I myself am a child, but the idea is still hilarious
-
Like a few have said, quick idea to make people feel better, every year kids and mom's and dad's go around selling rubber awareness bracelets, $ 1.00 the money goes locally to helping with services for those who may need it, seems like this is a better idea to raise awareness and support
-
seriously......its come ''out'' that it was a pedophile who started it. at least that is what my wife was saying earlier she's the one who goes to FB......thats messed up.

What a tweest!
A Mexican twist
