Title: Another Vinkman 262 fail
Post by: Vinkman on February 24, 2011, 11:22:58 AM
Me262 are almost always and colossal failure for me, and yesterday I found way number 23 to lose a 262.  Ways 1-22 included such classics as augering while diving after bandit, trying to land with one engine and spinning it on approach, crashing into a bomber I was attacking, failing in a rope attempt, to name a few. Number twenty three went like this...

I up and start rolling a 262 at a deserted base in the hopes of flying around the empty sky for some milk running buffs.  The plane accelerates very slowly and runs down the runway for what seems like three quarters of it's considerable length. I start to wonder if I'm going to drive off the end and hit a tree. I check the air speed indicator and it's verging on 150mph, so I pull the stick back and rotate the nose up but she does not lift off the ground right away and I'm contemplating pushing the stick forward again, thinkng the anlge of attack might now help keep the plane slow, when the the rumbling stops suddenly stops. She's up! Finally. I pull the gear up and almost immediately I get a slight stall buzzer. Speed 170, I'm ok maybe just bit of forward stick to let it build some speed, I'll be fine..."SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH" I've touched back down wheels up.  The plane slides to a screeching halt with me, the pilot, sitting 1 foot to the right of the runway. Left wing on the runway, but centerline of the plane is about a foot to the right.

System: You have ditched.

If only there was some way to practice flying it that didn't cost perk points.  :headscratch:

Couple notches of flaps will go a long way...

Had my first ever 262 loss last night.  Dove on some NOE B-24s and proceeded to run right into one of the drones.  Augered a 163 diving on NOE Lancs earlier this month.  Maybe buffs are safer NOE than 25k.  :)

As does holding the brakes at the start of run-up, until the engines are at full rev.   :airplane:

Leave the flaps up until your speed has built up then drop em...

I'm pretty sure Vinkman knows he can fly them offline and in the training arena.

I am starting a support group Vink.  Here is a picture of my most recent failed sortie in that evil jet powered contraption.  Note the nose shadow.  So very close it hurts... :cry

Those pontoons are for landing on water not the runway. :old:

Cop: Canada huh??   Almost made it.

Ouch! That would have drawn a classic Vinkman swearing frenzy in his basement. Of course my tourrette's would cause me to push the VOX button while ranting, much to the dismay [or amusment] of those on Range channel.  :uhoh

Oh and yes I have actually flown them offline to practice. :salute. Not nearly enough apparently. If anyone is interested, the real root cause of this wipeout, like so many others, was caused by impatience, and reliance on habit instead of focused execution of the task at hand.

Truth now.....who else has started the engine, and while it was sputtering to life, you started typing a message, only to find after hitting send you realized the throttle was at FULL and you crashed into an hangar or field gun and died.  :lol

Since you mentioned typing...
Have you remapped "eject" to something other than the Enter key? Like Ctrl-Enter?   :D

I prefer the method of trying to take off with a stick way out of calibration and you only realize when past the point of no return.  Controlling the plane at stall speed while calibrating is so much fun.   :frown:

My favorite is upping the jet heading out climbing to 10K, finding a gaggle of bombers at 18K I think yummy "belly shots"  :) zoom up bang bang 1 bomber down, pulling over the top , viewing several more victims feeling like this-> then the aweful sound of engine shut down and I realize for whatever reason I took off with only 25% fuel! Then I feel like this --> :huh  :headscratch:  :cry  :furious  :noid

Eject has been mapped to my Joystick for sometime now  :uhoh   not that I'm speaking from experience now  :uhoh  almost as bad as chasing that elusive dust speck for sectors thinking its a con     lol fun times
