Since we have new 'faces' as well as new planes, I thought I would post this. Even if you been in other games other than AH, please say what plane you fly the most and explain your reason for liking it.
Only fair for me to start. Well the 51D of course. I've always liked the way that it looks and flies in reality and also in the game (despite the not-so-great turning). I've had the chance to fly IN a real one many, many years ago. Also for the game, being I am not the best shot, I like the fact it has lots of ammo too :rock

Spit VIII
Maneuverability. I like the classic idea of flipping through the air and getting on their 6, not to mention a few taters to toss at someone.
BnZ just seems so, so, so, so, boring. *climb to 23890982343984K alt - Dive down - miss - climb BACK up to try again*
B17
Because the B29 is a gigantic target that can't take rounds worth a crud. The B17 is a beautiful plane. I'm a god on the guns.
-
The ki84 and p38. the p38 is my favorite plane of ww2. i absolutly HATE the ki84. i think its a complete crap of a plane. but for some reason i do my best in it.
bomber? was originally the b25/b17. but now its the b29. big sexy plane. most normal planes will not engage it. and the ones who do stupidy dead6 it and get a facefull of 20mm.plus it can take a beating as long as none of the rounds dont get anwheres near the cocpit.
-
ill tell you when i kill you :D
-
I used to fly the Ki84 almost exclusively. Great plane! (Tyrannis, you need to learn to respect the Ki!)
But this tour I have decided to learn the 109K4. Most of my sorties are in it. That said, I have flown some of the other 109 variants this tour and have been reminded of how much I love the 109F. I would fly the 109F all the time, but in the MA there are too many other toads chasing my quarry and I seem to get mostly assists.,
I like the 109F model so much I have even tried flying in Midwar, only to find that most people don't want to fight there. In fact, most Midwar players are fully involved in trying to "sneak" a base capture. If you show up in the sector they are in, they quickly bug out and seek a new base to "sneak". Sad, so sad.
-
Just about anything but a P-51, Spit or Corsair. I like most of the planes in the game except those.

i hate its cocpit (not saying htc messed up its design, they did i good job. i mean i hate the cocpit design in general).
i hate how small the window is in front of the gunsight.
i hate how thick the support rods or w.e there called are in the front.
i hate how cramped and small the cocpit looks.
and its cannons&fuel tanks get shot out WAY too easily.
idk why tho, but even tho i hate all this about it. its my best plane.i usually score 3-5 kills a sortie in it.
-
please say what plane you fly the most
K$ - pronounced Kay Muney - This aeroplane is called this cuz it is muney when things is hot and the $ sign happens to be on the 4 key.
and explain your reason for liking it.
Um. Duh.

I call shenanigans on that claim. :noid

F4U1A, it's just so purty!
-
A6M5 by far. I aspire to achieve the level of mastery of the zero that my namesake Hiroyoshi Nishizawa had. I have loved turnfighting since I became addicted to the genre 13 or 14 years ago. To those who would admonish me to "take off the training wheels Nishi!" I say any pilot worth his salt should know how to beat a zero.... regardless of who it's driver is. ~S~ Nishi
-
La-5 and the 7 once and awhile when I am feeling lazy, also been getting more time in the yaks recently, I just love the planes themselfs from an enginering point of view aswell as the fact that I have family who was involved with them (not La-7)
-
i hate how cramped and small the cocpit looks.
The AH version is positively roomy compared to the real thing. (No, alas, I was lucky enough to get a very up-close view of the cockpit of a real Gustav - the only flying one in the world at the time, IIRC, it was at Duxford - but I wasn't able to actually sit in it. I honestly don't think I would have fit, anyway, at least not with any room to move an inch, and that was in my thin student days! Presumably anyone tall or wide-shouldered went into bombers.)
But I know what you mean. The lousy cockpit ergonomics are a deal breaker for me too.
I've always loved everything US Navy, and the F4U and F6F are my faves. Spits are up there. In-game I fly N1Ks more often, though, or jugs and ponies on the attack.
I say any pilot worth his salt should know how to beat a zero.... regardless of who it's driver is.
Yup, that's exactly why I don't fly them! :P

TU-4...er ah B29. btw this may be helpful for AH uber buff hunters...oui mama, 12 X .50's with 1,000 rounds per gun!!

Ahhh..the fickleness of youth.
first off, i love the p40. its my third favorite early war plane. (the p39 being first, p38G second).
ack-ack
-
I'll play.
P-38J, as if it wasn't already obvious. Ever since I was a little kid, the P-38 has always held a fascination for me and was the plane that got me interested in aviation and warbirds of all types. Out of the P-38s we have, I only fly the J model as it was the historical ride of Riddle's Raiders along with the P-51D and since I'm in the 479th, it's the P-38J for me.
ack-ack

:headscratch: lets see, in my p40 post i obviously say EARLY WAR. and not overall.
i would take this oppurtunity to laugh at you ack, but i wont. i understand old people have bad eyesight. so im just going to assume you didnt see the part where i said early war.
just make sure to wear your glasses next time you try to read! :old:
-
The Ta-152. Honestly I like it because It provides a challenge while also being a fast well armed ride. Other than that I don't know it fits what I want to do.
-
109 g-6 (why it doesnt have a tater?) and the 190 f-8. The only planes with hungarian paintjob.
-
FM-2
-
take a wild guess :D
i'm also starting to like the K4, even tho BnZ fighting isn't really my forte.
i refuse to fly the spit16 or 51D
-
I agree with Getback on the purty plane. F4U1A
Besides, I spend most of my time on the CVs. The eny value keeps it available most of the time.
Depending on the situation, I can select the best Corsair for the job at hand.
Yea it's hard to see out the back but hey, I've always loved the Corsair.
Here's my normal ride.

personally, i think the f4u-1 is the best corsair. looks the best, has the best cocpit design. and i love the way the gunsight is designed. the f4u-1 and p39 have my favorite gunsights ingame.
-
Ki61...why??? I don't know..I just put it on one day and it felt right..It just offers some goodness for everything..it's just not great at anything hahaha but I like it........ My next favorite..which I have been neglecting for many many tours is the p40e
-
109f, the plane is a beast! I like to fly jugs and 38's as well. Only problem with me is that I get to lost in the world of k4's even though I fly it like krap
Edit: is this thread going to be a tyran vs. Akak bashing thread? lol :bolt:
-
In AH, 51B...hands down. I was 11 yo (now 30) when I heard my first Mustang. It was amazing. The sound of a Merlin still sends chills up my spine to this day. Out of the game, P-61. Something just ultra cool about that bird.
-
<---P-51D because It is a challenge to fly 1v1 against most other rides, You'll notice I don't come in high and I never run. outside of getting g'banged I'll stick it out. It's not a slow turner but I make it turn slow. I will master it before I move on to another plane. I'm thinking -1 pending on how long it takes to get to the fight or maybe, I don't know why don't some one tell me what a challenging plane is that I may want to try? :pray
-
The FM-2! Because it taste great and less filling than..... oh wait that's not right. It turns great and has enough power to recover. It does have flaws haha! If u lose an aileron it flies like a pig! Only having 4 .50's you basically whittle parts of planes :lol
-
i used to fly the Yak 9U almost exclusivly and i think I am pretty decent in it (depends on the situation), but lately I have been living in the 109 G2 and I think I will probably stay in that till the end. I will take a 190A5 out for a spin now and again, but only if I can convince my friend to come ith me - alone I tend to just wallow and die.
Handeling wise the k4 is th best plane for me, but the tater, while an art, keeps me back from pulling the trigger because i am afraid of dumping ammo. . .

This is not Challenger but it is aviation. At the very least it should tug at the heart strings of us grey beards. Don't know it is true or not but here it is anyway.
A soldier's pack is not so heavy a burden as a prisoner's chains.....Dwight D Eisenhower, Inagural address
Old Aviators and Old Airplanes.....
This is a good little story about a vivid memory of a P-51 and its pilot by a fellow who was 12 years old in Canada in 1967. You may know a few others who would appreciate it.
It was noon on a Sunday as I recall, the day a Mustang P-51 was to take to the air. They said it had flown in during the night from some U.S. airport, the pilot had been tired. I marveled at the size of the plane dwarfing the Pipers and Canucks tied down by her. It was much larger than in the movies. She glistened in the sun like a bulwark of security from days gone by.
The pilot arrived by cab, paid the driver, and then stepped into the flight lounge. He was an older man; his wavy hair was gray and tossed. Looked like it might have been combed, say, around the turn of the century.
His flight jacket was checked, creased and worn - it smelled old and genuine. Old Glory was prominently sewn to its shoulders. He projected a quiet air of proficiency and pride devoid of arrogance. He filed a quick flight plan to Montreal (Expo-67, Air Show) then walked across the tarmac.
After taking several minutes to perform his walk-around check the pilot returned to the flight lounge to ask if anyone would be available to stand by with fire extinguishers while he "flashed the old bird up. Just to be safe."
Though only 12 at the time I was allowed to stand by with an extinguisher after brief instruction on its use -- "If you see a fire, point, then pull this lever!" I later became a firefighter, but that's another story.
The air around the exhaust manifolds shimmered like a mirror from fuel fumes as the huge prop started to rotate. One manifold, then another, and yet another barked -- I stepped back with the others. In moments the Packard-built Merlin engine came to life with a thunderous roar, blue flames knifed from her manifolds. I looked at the others' faces, there was no concern. I lowered the bell of my extinguisher. One of the guys signaled to walk back to the lounge. We did.
Several minutes later we could hear the pilot doing his pre flight run-up. He'd taxied to the end of runway 19, out of sight. All went quiet for several seconds; we raced from the lounge to the second story deck to see if we could catch a glimpse of the P-51 as she started down the runway. We could not.
There we stood, eyes fixed to a spot half way down 19. Then a roar ripped across the field, much louder than before, like a furious hell spawn set loose---something mighty this way was coming. "Listen to that thing!" said the controller. In seconds the Mustang burst into our line of sight.
Its tail was already off and it was moving faster than anything I'd ever seen by that point on 19. Two-thirds the way down 19 the Mustang was airborne with her gear going up. The prop tips were supersonic; we clasped our ears as the Mustang climbed hellish fast into the circuit to be eaten up by the dog-day haze.
We stood for a few moments in stunned silence trying to digest what we'd just seen. The radio controller rushed by me to the radio. " Kingston tower calling Mustang?" He looked back to us as he waited for an acknowledgment.
The radio crackled, "Go ahead Kingston." "Roger Mustang. Kingston tower would like to advise the circuit is clear for a low level pass." I stood in shock because the controller had, more or less, just asked the pilot to return for an impromptu air show!
The controller looked at us. "What?" He asked. "I can't let that guy go without asking. I couldn't forgive myself!"
The radio crackled once again, "Kingston, do I have permission for a low level pass, east to west, across the field?" "Roger Mustang, the circuit is clear for an east to west pass." "Roger, Kingston, I'm coming out of 3000 feet, stand by."
We rushed back onto the second-story deck, eyes fixed toward the eastern haze. The sound was subtle at first, a high-pitched whine, a muffled screech, a distant scream. Moments later the P-51 burst through the haze. Her airframe straining against positive Gs and gravity, wing tips spilling contrails of condensed air, prop-tips again supersonic as the burnished bird blasted across the eastern margin of the field shredding and tearing the air.
Coperheads post reminded me of this story. Sorry if this double-posts.
At about 400 mph and 150 yards from where we stood she passed with the old American pilot saluting. Imagine. A salute! I felt like laughing, I felt like crying, she glistened, she screamed, the building shook, my heart pounded.
Then the old pilot pulled her up and rolled, and rolled, and rolled out of sight into the broken clouds and indelibly into my memory.
I've never wanted to be an American more than on that day. It was a time when many nations in the world looked to America as their big brother, a steady and even-handed beacon of security who navigated difficult political water with grace and style; not unlike the pilot who'd just flown into my memory.
He was proud, not arrogant, humble, not a braggart, old and honest, projecting an aura of America at its best. That America will return one day, I know it will.
Until that time, I'll just send off this story; call it a reciprocal salute, to the old American pilot who wove a memory for a young Canadian that's lasted a lifetime.

If I have the perks and want to farm scalps (such as hordlings rolling a base), of course it's a Tempest for me. I have always loved the Typhoon and the Tempest for some reason... I think they're gorgeous in an odd sort of way......
Typhoon for ground attack...
I see the Typhoon and the first thing that comes to mind is it looks to be saying "Hello, I'm here to kill you. There is little you can do."
If I want to furball, especially against CV attack, it's the Hurri IIc. No explanation needed.
LA7 is for chasing down runners. Not great at anything but being fast, but good at everything enough to be dangerous.
If I want to farm perks I either fly the Ki-61 (I have come to LOVE that little bird) or the 109, either G6 or G14. I like the gondies for the hitting power, especially if we have numerical advantage and I'm less likely to get bounced from high and have to turnfight.
Have come to loath the P51D and just about any Spitfire after the Spit 5. Ultimate dweeb rides. Hate Brewsters too because they're so danged hard to hit, and if you miss they fire up their RATO units and chase you down at 500 mph in a dive after reversing 180 degrees. :huh Same problem with Ki-84s.... e-retaining freaks that always seem to have a way of disappearing from my gunsight 0.00001 sec before my tracers get there..... and reappearing behind me still with all their e, even after hard maneuvering.....
My personal absolute favorite aircraft of WWII is the P-38.....but all I manage to do in it is either be a large target or an "assist machine."
I'm such a poor pilot in F4U's, any model, that I pretty much stay out of all of them, except for the C-Hog, and I only fly it fast and from high. I never have wrapped my brain around their low-speed handling. I always end up stalled and floundering. Taking one into a furball is sure death for me.

P-38.
she's a beast.
she served in every theater of ops that the AAF had a presence. she was in production from before the war, till the end. she produced more american aces than any other.
nuff said. :aok

Just about anything but a P-51, Spit or Corsair. I like most of the planes in the game except those.
Why do I have the feeling you don't like 51s much due to that awesome fight you and I had long time ago? lol. I still remember it well, just not model of 109 you were in. I still regret not recording it.
-
C-Hog then D, when Vulch is on I up an I-16 to up & turn quick. High speed vulchers have a tough time getting on your 6.
-
P-47D-11 I like her because she can take a ton of hits and still bring you back home safely. She's an ugly plane but gets the job done. Also, the 8 50s are nice too. :devil
-
Just about anything but a P-51, Spit or Corsair. I like most of the planes in the game except those.
Just one of the many reasons I now fly a Corsair, right squadie? :x
-
P38L. It can bomb and fight. Kinda like a FA18 only with props.
-

I may have that film somewhere. Anyway, I was never a fan of those planes IRL and their prevalence in the game is a further turn-off. They are obviously very capable but most times, a less popular ride is preferred.
And hyzer, I commend your choice of the Corsair as there will never be a second thought about stealing your kills.
-
I'm learning the Jeep. I've been spending some time in the TA with Cactus. He's Jeep elite!!

Cool if you have that film. And I was hoping I was right; Now I have to go pop my swelled head :bhead (think that face is about as close to a swelled looking head one I can come up with)
-
109 g14 and 109F4 for high dogfight
190A8 with AA to intercept Bombers (but b29 is to fast)
Polycarpov with 20mm low defence
Single Boston 3 anf iL2 for Gvs
P38 G for field attack (LOOK a woundet duck noob fly 38 model G) till I turn and get them on they six :)
P51band p38 J Bomber escort.
-
Mossie FB Mk VI - Because nobody (except karnak) respects it.
-
I have been burnt out on the fighters lately so you can normally find me in a Ju87 or possibly the Ki-67. When I do get back into the fighters, I really like the German iron but can't hit a darn thing with them. If HTC ever puts the 37mm gun pods on the stuka, I would probably fly it almost exclusively.
-
The rides I have spent some time in....
K4
TA152
Mossie
KI84
KI61
190F8
KI84 is probably my best ride as far as my skill compared to others....spent probably 3 tours flying that for the majority about a year ago.
KI61 was the first plane I learned
Mossie I started flying because everyone was complaining about thee KI84 being easy mode so I killed them in a mossie instead :D
190F8.....my main attack mode plane
K4.....tators are l33t
Ta152....Everyone sees it as a high alt only fighter....I like semi turn/E fighitng it on the deck and making it do stuff most other planes won't
-
Dora, the Beguiler. She will corrupt you.
-
The P-38 Lightning. It was there the whole time and it did it all. :rock
And I grew up in Burbank and my parents met on the Lightning assembly line.
So for me there is only Lightnings. :salute
In the P-38L, I always carry rockets, just in case.
The P-38 J & G, strickly air-to-air.
I love them all but the L is probably my favorite. :old:
-
Mossie and F4U
-
the P51D because i have always loved the airplane. i know it inside and out in RL, and trying to do so in the game.
My favorite bomber is either the B17 or the B25. both are beautiful and just amazing aircraft.
-
B-17/B-24--both good looking bombers, both armed to the teeth, and the personal reason: ball turrets. 360 degree angle shot? heck yeah. the B-17, had a die-cast model when i was 6 (now 14) loved it ever since. the close quarters of the crew also amazing. :salute

Theres other planes besides the LaLa?

Theres other planes besides the LaLa?
lol figures :rofl
-
The P-38 is by far my favorite fighter of WW2. In-game, when my ADD kicks in and I fly different planes, I can always go back to the P-38J to regain my confidence.
As for bombers, the B-17 is my favorite. My hometown (now only a mere 2,500 people) was significant for it's B-17 pilot training base and housed over 5,000 people on the base alone.
Here are some pictures that can be found in our little museum on the base

P-39D or Q, because that 37mm is LOVE no matter what.
p-38G and up, because the two engines help get her home all busted and shot up, and the compact gun package is a laser gun second to none, save the A20G
A-20G Because it has two engines and can get home busted up, can also haul another gunner/player around to be a very effective fighter, and fighter bomber with 4k of bombs. The gun package in the nose is wonderful, a true "laser gun".
MmmMm, everything else sucks. :rock :devil
-
Theres other planes besides the LaLa?
There is more then 1 Lavoch :furious
-
F4U-C 4 20mm cannons One pass, one kill, love hunting buffs in it. Do not fly this plane, you will become addicted.
Spit 16 Love hunting down runners in it, would fly it more if the fuel was not so limited
109-G6 For pure turngfighting/furballing
and
190A8 My favorite plane period. Great guns, good visibility, takes decent amount of damage. I would only fly this if it wasn't such an easy target to catch
when it is time to try and RTB.
Buffs: KI67, just plain fun, and 20mm defensive guns.
GV's: They have these in this game?...................meh....... . never had any interest in them and never take em.

It's in the name

F6F because its ugly, but can smoke the sexiest plane in the game. :devil
F6 is beautiful. Not sleek like a Mustang or 109. More like a muscle car. Big size, big power, big guns. The Hellcat and Thunderbolt have always been my favorite planes because of their brawny style.
-
I call shenanigans on that claim. :noid
As do I...

More like a Wrangler lifted up on 35" mud terrains with a beefed up engine.
-
I was thinking more like a Dodge Challenger SRT. Oversized, overweight, but still a force to be reckoned with.

I fly the C47 as much as anything. It reminds me, … of me! It’s big, slow, and useful but not flashy. I’m always trying to take a base with troops, and have flown over 3 sectors with vehicle supplies to help out other players.
If I‘m looking for a fight, it’s usually in the P40. You are not expected to win in one, so when you do it’s like getting a bonus.
-
When not doing a mission with my squad I always fall back on the P40-E . I just love to fly that plane and when I land kills in it I definitely feel a sense of accomplishment. (http://images.crackle.com/1/u/gl/f14wb_tne.jpg)
-
The 152 is a flying gas tank ...its fun for bomber hunting......la5 for base defence......it gets alt pretty quick.......The Zeke off of carriers...Bar got me hooked on it
-
So many planes, so little time...just can't limit myself to one or two rides. I have a core of maybe 15 planes I fly the most. I fly about 30-40 planes each tour. I had made only 9% of my aerial kills in my "top ride" in 2010 :airplane:
-
the p-51d-for speed--agility firepower,distance---i use p-38 for dive bombing cv's and f4u-1d for regular dive bombing.

BnZ just seems so, so, so, so, boring. *climb to 23890982343984K alt - Dive down - miss - climb BACK up to try again*
Taters = 30mm
K$ ftw.

I am a dogfighter:
BF109-G2
Why?
- I think it is one of the most versatile dogfighting birds in the game.
- It supports most fighting styles. Fight E for limited time, fly BnZ for a longer time, TnB whenever you like.
- 30 eny will feed any perk need.
- You will be able to turn with spits. You will be able to deliver bad surprises to the enemy.
- If your shot is as bad as mine, you can take 3 20mm with the gondolas.
- It will teach you proper flying without question.
- Keep SA multilevel in this plane, you have it for any plane.
- It is a stylish underdog and sexy birdy.
