My new Favorite book. Has anyone read it? If people would listen and take the time to read this this could very well help America. (http://www.bhpublishinggroup.com/img/covers/9780805464368_Black%20Belt%20Patriotism_hr.jpg)

I'm sorry, but the patriotic ravings of a former movie star aren't exactly a plan for national advancement. You seem tense, are you feeling well tonight? Just send me a PM, I won't bother you.

No my heart feels likes its been stabbed out of my chest, lit on fire and squished before my very eyes. Chuck Norris isn't just an actor, he's the most American person I know, and if you would read its not at all about him gloating about fame, its about America, about how it used to be, and how it is now. If people would take after this book, America would be a much better place.
-
Charlie Sheen could take Chuck Norris now that he uses tiger blood in his recipes.
WINNING!!!

You people are pathetic. This book is not about Chuck Norris taking people on. This is about America in trouble and how it can be politically solved. You people sicken me :furious

Looks like an interesting read. I wouldn't ordinarily read books on that topic, but I may give it a shot soon...

An often overlooked aspect of our First Amendment right is the "right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." I was certainly grieved earlier this year, when a California state appeals court ruled that parents without teaching credentials do not have a Constitutional right to home school their children. Besides statewide consequences, this decision could set a legal precedent for other states as well. (This hits particularly close to home because my wife Gena and I personally home school our seven year old twins).
At the core of these types of ludicrous rulings is the assault on the parent-child relationship by judges who refuse to support of even acknowledge parental rights. This California appellate judgment is likely to be and should be overturned-but it and other similar rulings are warnings to us all of how liberal judges are seeking rulings are warnings to us all of how liberal judges are seeking to infringe upon the freedoms and rights we have as parents and to subvert the Constitution.
This is just a mere paragraph, he covers many more things, i just flipped to a random page and quoted a paragraph

I don't see how the First Amendment is violated here. The First Amendment was intended to prevent the government from machine-gunning protestors. What the california judge did was perfectly logical. Why should parents without teaching credentials be able to homeschool their kids? What could the average parent do that a school couldn't?
The only thing that I can see is the parent giving the child indoctrination (I won't go any further on that topic, it would violate rule #14).

There is a reason there are minimum requirements to education. In my personal experience, homeschooled children are 85% severely lacking in general critical thinking (and this is compared to the screwy critical thinking of general education products, mind you), and 100% are far, far behind in actual working knowledge of any given subject. Very few parents are capable of teaching anywhere near the level of competency that is required to be successful, nor do they have anywhere near a complete knowledge of the subjects taught. Teaching a single subject these days, in most states requires a Master's or Doctorate in that SINGLE subject. I guess homeschool parents hold MS degrees in the entire curriculum. (And, I'm sorry, but you truly have to love a subject if you spend that much time be educated in it. It's laughable when someone argues that a graduate degree is just a piece of paper. Those that argue it, think it's another BS or BA. It really isn't.)
Yours may be a shining gem, and an exception to the norm, but that just isn't the case, as a whole.
Furthermore, all of the homeschoolers I have been around are socially awkward, some to the point of overt aggression. They are also generally religious ideologues, which I gather, is the point, from the parental side, on many occasions. Looking through one of their "biology" textbooks was a sad hilarity. One 15 year old kid I was working with was using his Dad's textbook in Chemistry...published in 1979.
They also lack innate work ethic, and do not think for themselves. These are just my personal experiences, and they were with "gifted" homeschooled children.
Parental teaching should be complementary to the general education they receive outside of the family unit. Otherwise, it truly is the textbook definition of indoctrination and is completely unfair to the child. But I still agree it is anyone's right to screw up their children how they will. Or equip them for success. However you look at it, evolution will decide. :aok
I guess inherently we all want to make little robots of ourselves, because we are perfect. <sarcasm>

have there been huge advances in high school level chemistry since 1979? hell, all my high school text books were from the late 80s/early 90s. the teachers just told us what was outdated and gave us supplementary notes on it.

The issue with our country, I feel, is the manufacturing industry. More and more I hear about computers doing this for us, and do that for us, why? Technology cant log the trees for the lumber for our houses and instruments. Technology cant mine the ore to make the steel to make our cars and other steel objects. Technology cant "Make" our cars. My dad when he was in college had a professor, and the professor said to the class "When Logging is down the economy is down". MY brother, so i ronically is a logger. And anyone else who knows a logger, or has watched Axe Men, American Loggers or Swamp Loggers can relate a little. As already mentioned Logging creates the lumber for our houses, furniture and instruments. also, Logging gives jobs to the truckers who transports the logs. It gives jobs to the mechanics who repair the trucks, and to the manufactuerers employees. Technology can not give us this job setting. without our back bone of manufacturing we are nothing as an economy. I find it hard to believe we are still the wealthiest nation in the world (-_-)
sorry about my rant. But if the book touches on any of this I would be interested in reading it.

I don't quite understand your point.
Are you saying that we should start making things by hand again? That would brutally cripple our industry. Technology actually does mine the ore, log the trees, and make the cars. It just needs people to handle it safely and efficiently.

I am saying computers are not the way. I understand we need the technology for a chainsaw to cut the trees, and for the skidder or yarder to get the logs to the landing, and then even more technology to load the logs onto a truck..and so on. But do we really need a calculator that tells us how high and deep to have each step cut on a stringer for the stairs going to our basement or second floor? do we need a fancy GPS system in our tracotrs so a Farmer can get from one field to another? Call me a hypocrit as i have a DROID, but do we need phones that can run do everything we need to do while on the go? We are the slaves to the government and whitecollar big business America. It's sad. The government isnt "for the people, by the people, of the people"..its for the big business, b y the big business, of the big bussiness. We could very easily not be 14 TRILLION dollars in debt.but the government lets companies like GMC go bankrupt because BIG BUSINESS, like Exxon Mobile and BP, make enough profit to pay our national debt. who pays all the taxes for the nation? the working middle class, not the people with the money. Gotta love the government AIDING the ones who dont need the aid, and (exscuse me for saying this Skuzzy)raping the people who need the help. it sickens me to know our government could be so blinded by money and technology.
another rant...I'm sorry.

the actual knowledge of doing it. I feel, and its only my opinon, but technology is making us stupid. we as a nation are not as intelligent as we once were when we had to think about what we were doing.
my thoughts, until you give me more then conclusive evidence that technology is making us smarter by running our brains then I will stand firm by this.

Technology removes the need for 'hit and miss' and simple 'try and fail' ways of learning things.
It increases productivity and the upper limits of capability, while at the same time removing the need (except, of course, from a few) the previous knowledge which brought us to this point. That's not a bad thing, that knowledge is largely redundant.
Science and human achievement are built upon improving what knowledge we have and making it obsolete (for lack of a better word).
There's nothing wrong with making menial tasks obsolete, to the point that most people no longer how to do them, in favor of more efficient means, usually based on technology. That's just the progress of human society.
-
About home schooling: I don't care how good a teacher the parent is, someone who gets home schooled will be missing out on perhaps one of the most critical bits of education - the classroom. There are so many unspoken things which you learn in there which you'll miss out on in home schooling.

your right, but with most everything we do going back to technology (thats a given, need saws to cut stuff and the sorts), we need the manufacturing blue collar working man to get back on our feet. in some ways we need technology, but obviously we dont need it running our every day lives.
-
Technology is not something that runs your life, it's just a tool that you use as you please.
we need the manufacturing blue collar working man to get back on our feet.
I don't understand how this is contradictory with the use of technology.

Look back at the Depression during the 30's. S depression is a prolonged recession, which if im not mistaken we are in a prolonged recession, no? Back to my point, FDR made how many jobs for the unemployed which broke the back of the depression and started pulling us out, nay? theres other reasons for the influx of national wealth then. compare that to now. they had minimal technology, and had to do stuff by hand. In our case Technology has sort of caused this. 2.2 Million for a single aircraft, 1.4 million for a single cruise missle..where are we getting the money for this technology? yes, we have people building these objects, but many of the companies only want people who have a higher education. How many people can afford College? Maybe I'm blinded by the fact that I live in a working community where everything you have you worked for, but I feel we need to back off of technology and continue how we got by 80, 90, `100 hell even a 120 years ago during the Industrial Revolution.
I keep ranting. sorry.

This is only a good thing.
What you're looking for here is a regression.
One of the problems of 'back then' was the exact opposite of this, liquidity of workers. The position of the worker in an environment where anyone with hands can do the work is pretty much worse than slaves, because slaves represent more of an investment.
The more specialized work is, the more education it requires, the better it is, in the end, for the worker. He becomes more of an investment, more specialized, less replaceable.
The only issue is the exclusivity of education, but tearing down progress certainly won't help in that field.
-

Yup and the candy arsed way things are handled in schools today you are missing on an education as well...
-
the issue with education is not everyone can afford it. In companies looking for more and more people with aa college degree it really limits the amount of people who can be employed due to lack of funds for a college degree.
-

That's what I said ;) if not everyone can afford education, its exclusive.
Unfortunately I doubt we'll ever have free university here like in the rest of the civilized world.

Maybe so, but I'd almost rather be emotionally and socially mature, even if it meant a worse education. Then again, I've been fortunate enough to have a good education at school, so I don't have a good perspective on this.

Bruce Lee was 5'7, 145 pounds. Nowadays he'd get the ol' ground and pound. You guys might laugh but the best fighters in the world are pro wrestling. Yes, I know the matches are faked, but they're still atheletes and, even more importantly, highly skilled fighters. The Undertaker would bury Bruce Lee in a street fight.

Respectfully disagree. Lee's philosophy of fighting included learning grappling techniques. He used some of them in "Enter the Dragon". Granted, he was not know for his ground skills, and what I understand he never had the opportunity to study Brazilian Ju Jutsu or the other grappling techniques that are prevalent in MMA these days. Had he known about their effectiveness I have no doubt he would have added them to his skill set. Jeet Kun Do is based on using whatever techniques are most efficient.
Also, Lee wasn't just a "show" fighter. He started out as a street fighter in Hong Kong.

At first I thought you were trolling. But with each subsequent post, you truly are trying to find your Village. Keep searching ponce, you just might stumble upon it.
-
The original post seems to be about an actor (and yes he is an actor, even if you think not a good one) apparently writing a book about more conservative values.
While it might be a nice change of pace from the vast majority of celebrities who spout off from the other side of the spectrum, if you dislike one, you should probably dislike the other (just shut up and sing, act or whatever it is that led you to fame)
As far as home schooling, I think it tends to rise out of the belief that the public school systems are not neutral in a political or religious/anti religious sense.
Parents will always want to instill their own value system in their children.
Whether it's better to include religion and protection from some of the courser culture so dominant today would depend on one's own political/religious persuasion I suppose.
I would have to say with the internet and volume of material available today, home schooled children have a chance to learn at least as well as they would in the public school system, but don't think they are being done any favors when it comes to developing social interaction skills.
-

+1 a kid on my hockey team is home schooled.probably knows more then half the kids on my hockey team. I'm not saying the kids on my hockey team are oafs, one of them could have a paid way through Westpoint, another is going to pre med and hasnt gotten below an A average in any class.since Jr. High. In all honesty, hes just as intelligent as these two. He is socially awkward though, although not as awkward as some. You can tell a home schooled kid from a public/private schoolkid.

He started out as a street fighter in Hong Kong.
I remember seeing an interview with a bunch of Hollywood types, a few stars etc, that had gone to Hong Kong with Bruce Lee. While walking down the street he was challenged to numerous street fights, just in a few blocks (I lived in Hong Kong for most of 1996 before the Chinese took it back, and it was the same then as in Bruce Lee's time, stamping your foot on the ground meant you wanted to throw down). Bruce Lee took EVERY fight, much to the shock and horror or the Hollywooders, and he beat the living hell out of all comers, a few of them in 2 or even 3 on one fights. The witnesses said these were savage, horrific fights, not the scripted movie things that Bruce Lee is most known for. Ground fighting or not, pretty amazing to have several fights in a short time and space, and win them all. Also, the Governator has always maintained that Bruce Lee was pound for pound the strongest man in living history, and if you do a bit of research on what he was capable of, anyone would have to agree.
The Undertaker...I still can't stop laughing. For once Karaya and I agree 100%, I never thought the day would arrive. Bruce Lee would KILL the Undertaker and then beat the life out of his entourage.

Ground fighting or not, pretty amazing to have several fights in a short time and space, and win them all. Also, the Governator has always maintained that Bruce Lee was pound for pound the strongest man in living history, and if you do a bit of research, anyone would have to agree.
that is nutty. I wanna be Bruce Lee.
-
Gman, he was fighting guys that were his size. The Undertaker is 6'8", 285 pounds, with agility and power. Yes Bruce Lee was great, but giving up 140 pounds? Sorry, he'd get pounded. I know wrestling is fake, but it still requires strength and agility---and unlike that Kung Fu man dancing thing pro wrestling moves can be incorporated into a street fight.
Do you think Bruce Lee could beat up Brock Lesner? It'd be like a duel between a jeep and a tank- eventually the tank will catch him with one shot, and it's all over.
-
Bruce Lee would get pounded if your guy fell on top of him.
Still, I'm sure Bruce would step out of the way in time.
Besides, they already fought. Have you not seen the video?
Bruce Lee totally kicked him right in the noggin, knocked him
right out.

I know, I saw "They Live" with Rowdy Roddy Piper and he body slammed the big cross eye black guy in the alley trying to put on the sunglasses, and WON!
What precisely are your creds for commenting on close quarter combat other than watching WWE?

Uh, as far as street fighting goes, we don't know who his opponents were, and if you think orientals are all the same size, check this guy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolo_Yeung
...who was a good friend of Bruce Lee and appeared as the main henchman in "Enter the Dragon".
For all we know Bruce was beating up Hollywood thugs that were bigger than he was, maybe not as big as Mr. Calaway, but we just don't know.
You can go over the "what if's" all you want, but the bottom line is there's no definitive way to know who'd win this fight unless HiTech decides to model it for us. And even then you still don't know.

I used to play Mortal Kombat and I never lost, so it's not like I'm a wuss.
BTW, "They Live" was a chilling look at our future. Great movie.

Humour, sarcasm, mastery of circa 1993 arcade games, and a chilling ability to equate wrestling with real life....perhaps I was hasty, maybe I'll reevaluate my knee jerk reaction.

Lol Ink your so right!
I never met Mr Lee but I have an old friend who knew him and Chuck, infact him and Chuck trained in Korea together.
All I can say is size does matter but no matter how big you are it's pretty hard to fight with a broken knee and that would likely be the end of any encounter between some WWE clown and Mr Lee!
:salute
PS; that includes Brock too.

and of course video games prepare you for real fights. Didn't you see Scott Pilgrim? :rock

Games like call of duty online can help your social skills, fighting games and quick decision games help aid in response times. Social networking games can actually be very beneficial, but only up to a point, spending all day behind a computer can cause problems.

Actually I agree with what he said, except for the CoD and social skills bit.
He did not say that games will make you tougher, he said that they may improve your reaction time - I'd be surprised if that weren't true.

Yes, it will improve your reaction time.

no.........no it wont :aok
now maybe if your playing a game were you actually have to move your arms...and throw an actual punch.....but playing tekken or some such game certainly will not make your reaction time better.
