a long time ago I was fortunate to own an original
the day we bought it
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w246/fieldsofink/Zona1.jpg)
the day my 1year old daughter was missing, I left the house to go back looking after 4 hours of trying to find her, I got to the street and hammered the pedal, before I realized it there was a truck braking in front of me...I was so out of it, I didn't even realize there were people on the streets.
after it got fixed the day me and the wife got married
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w246/fieldsofink/Zona.jpg)
if you look close at the rear quarter panel you can see the damage that happens when a tire tread comes off at 125 mph

Dude, you need to take better of her. I bought a '87 Z28 brand new, and still have her. I kept her so long, she turned into a classic car.
-
Ink, always a sad sight to see how you butchered that car along the years :uhoh
Hajo. that Challenger/colour combo was my first choice for buying a new car, but at 4,100 lbs I had to pass. Awesome cruiser still.
Shuffler, what is the name of that colour. I couldn't find it on Chevy's web site and 2 of my neighbours have it. My wife loves that colour, sadly I cannot stand driving those new ones.
Stampf, that was my first choice for my Daughter (her nickname is Bee, wanted to make a superbee inspired, but man couldn't find one cheap, everyone wants $$$ to make "a superbee clone".
My driveway is usually an eye sore for my neighbours on the week ends ... :(

ya I beat the crap outta that car, I crashed it once though, I wouldn't say I "butchered" it though...I did drive it hard thing never let me down :aok way tougher then any chevy product i've ever had. back then they were not as sought after as they are now a days. hell I only paid 2 grand for it:eek:
now a days the rear end is worth that. in the condition it was in when I sold it, if I had it today I could sell it for over 10,000
-
Great now I can't stop thinking about fixing up my old 69 merc marquis. Anybody got a few thousand dollars I can have to get her back on the road?

-
right now shes getting an engine rebuilt. afterwards i'm working on handling, try to beat those ricers in their territory, the corners. probably won't paint it, add to the sleeper look. I only paid 550 for it so it wasn't too pretty when i bought it.

1969 caprice 427.....picture not displaying.
I currently work on this.
It did 252.9mph in the standing mile (fastest officially timed speed) with only 1400hp but we should be showing at the nasa space center airstrip to take the record to near or over 280mph with 2500hp.
It's also a daily driver with a/c and full interior with nothing deleted.

Built it the first time when I was 18 (15 years ago). Rebuilt several times since.

Been collecting dust for a while. I came to the realization that if anything happened to me, my kids would go back to their mother (I use the term VERY loosely). So I decided that riding can wait until they are grown.
Stupid triple post.

Been collecting dust for a while. I came to the realization that if anything happened to me, my kids would go back to their mother (I use the term VERY loosely). So I decided that riding can wait until they are grown.
Stupid triple post.

1)they said AMERICAN
2)if you want to live to see your 17th birthday, a nissan 350z is a very bad idea. my friends son(whom he swore was a "calm" driver) just totaled his 300zx. it was his first car. thankfully, the kid walked away un-injured, and didn't hurt anyone else.

Was thinking the same thing. Way too much power and squirrely for a new 16yr old driver.

Wonder what the gas mileage is like...I want something with power and gas mileage! lol

How much power? Not that that matters. The real question is who much of that power are actually putting on the asphalt and what transmission you have. My wife's VW T2.0 with only 200hp would have made my old mustang run to mommy with tears in his eyes :rofl

V-6 MUSTANG. 31mpg, 305hp.
mustang gt 26(i think)mpg, 430hp. a customers son has one. claims he got 35mpg at 80mph on his gt coming to nj from mass.

T2.0? i imagine you're talking a turbocharged 2 liter? if you are, it'd do that to a mid-90's mustang, or any of the v-6's. it definitly won't do it to the new ones, nor would it do it to the 5 speed equipped late 80's mustangs.
the v-6 vw's? different story.

Yes, I would not put it against an old 5.0 but a new one right out of the dealer with no mods? It should smoke it based on the transmission only. Don't forget, you are comparing a 2 litter engine to a 4.7? (not sure what the new ones have). And the stang is not going to beat the 30mph

the new 5.0? you really think a 2 liter turbo is gonna take a stock to stock new 5 liter? you realize these cars run mid 12's right off the showroom floor, right?
and the v6 stangs are already documented over 30mpg, and 305hp, although i don't know their performance specs.

i don't personally think the dood got that....i was simply saying what i was told.
i know my mustang used to average 24mpg, and i had modded the poop outta that one to run low 12's.........

I rented a v6 2 years ago and it was like pedaling on a bike going up hill. Not sure about the 5.0 although it would be really sad if they came even remotely close. What does it do at 0 to 60? I don;t think VW will have any numbers on quarter miles lol.
EDIT: seems I am not up to speed with 2011 models

2 years ago, the gt's had only those anemic 4.6 liters. they can be good engines, but they're not from the factory.
i'm not sure which 6 cylinder engine they had in em 2 years ago....but i think it was the 4 liter.
here's an article on the new v-6....
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/articles/2011-ford-mustang-v6-economy-power-dohc-1278.shtml
Figure around 5.5 seconds to 60 miles per hour (or even slightly less) and the quarter-mile in about 14 seconds flat at around 105 mph.(for the v-6)
custoimer....i'll find the 5 liter specs later
ok.....one thing ford was aiming for was to beat the bmw's on the track. they did. the m3 pretty much ruled the track. the boss302 pretty much pummeled the m3. here's a comparison of the gt to the m3 though......

2010 camaro v6 put out almost as much as the 2010 mustang GT. They upped the ante this year on the mustangs and we're back in the late 60s again.... woot :D
The Camaro ZL1 will be on the order list last quarter or so of this year.... 550+ hp and suspension goodies galore. It will be closely followed by the new Z-28.
It sure makes for some good talking at the meets.

Camaro's are probably my favorite car that isn't a Ford. I wish my mom hadn't sold her '86 Z-28. That sucker looked sharp. I would rather drive it than my F-150 (and that says a LOt coming from a Ford guy! )

IMO, the black would look better than plain white. To me, for a plain white car to look the best it has to have certain lines (which is hard to describe, but if the hood was level all the way across it would look great all white). That's just my opinion.

years ago, i rebuilt the entire braking system on this......

was a 302 4 speed 4 wheel disc brakes. 49k documented miles on it. friggin thing was still pulling at 7500rpm when i shifted. if i had the money, i'd have bought it when he put it up for sale.

Camaro SS 0-06 is 4.6..... Can't get enough traction on the stock P Zero tires. Moderately quicker with smaller 18" rims and racing radials.
The camaro I posted vid on... that belongs to Chris, one of our club members, 0-60 1.5552 :D
The ZL1 will be in the 1.5 0-60 ballpark. The Z-28 will most likly be close too.

Behold, the only American car I own. A 1995 Ford Escort LX! My first car that I bought and still chugging after 225k miles on it.
Unfortunately I don't think my 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi qualifies as American Muscle but it does run 2.5L 4-cylinder, 300hp at 6,000rpm with about 14psi of boost.
Looks fairly close to mine except the orange in the headlights, BBS rims instead of Enkei, the front mounted inter-cooler and the goofy stickers on the front door/windshield.

IT'S a goofy hybred. my mom has a 94 protege. hers has the 1.8 DOHC mazda engine, but with a fore EEC system. she gets good mileage on hers, but she never lets me have the car to do work to it, so it's going down the pooper pretty quickly...../..

Man .. some nice rides :)
Just got back to town after getting our ‘nuther’ C-5 Vette home from Tucson.
I am still laughin ..it was *epic* car fun!
Ok so wife tells me I should 'haggle' .. several times ..as we are on the way.
Yanno .. that sounded like a great idea until Jason opened the garage, and I walked around the Vette.
Then I asked if I could start it up .. he says take it out for a spin for a bit .. I make a lil run down the street and back.
My face feels wierd .. huh .. I am *smiling* again!
I try to remember the last time I drove a hi-performance automobile with a clutch ..
..my 440 Duster, when I first put it together
..4-gear, tunnel-ram, 4:88's and 13 to 1 compression .. no traction in any forward gear, sideways was easy !!
..ya .. I converted it to an automatic to tame it down! ..in 1976.
I had forgotten The Growl as you come off a lite.
How good it feels to grab second. Workin it ..oohh yaaa.
I was soo sold.
Wife was irritated .. LOL .. I said pay the man, we be takin this baby home.
Turns out he's the 3rd owner, been garaged all it's life, and while not 'pristine' ..it is a damn fine automobile.
'99 coupe, Glass top, F-55 suspension, black w/firethorn red interior, all stock except for the Z06 chromies and the shift knob
(I like the skull ..fits the black beauty fine
So .. the Vette and I get acquainted otw back to the freeway, wife followin in our trusty Nissan pick-em-up.
No issues .. so we hit the freeway and set sail for Phoenix and home.
Then the epic part begins.
Wife flashes her lites, we pull over a bit short of Eloy (not quite half way home)
Puzzled R Me.. I walk over and ask 'hmm?'
She says something came off the pickup, right front ..??
We walk around
..there's a strip of tread missing about 2 inches wide and a foot or so long
and the steel belts are all showin their fuzz from bein used for traction (!!)
ROFL!!
I mean .. the truck has 25k miles since it was new, original tires still have *great* tread on 'em
..well .. except for that strip that's GONE!!
So we go tip-toeing along hopin it wont pop as we try to find a place that can replace it ..coupla stops ..
..in Eloy there is a 24hr tire place ..and the guy came when we called and was a great person to deal with.
On the way in, I get beeped at and the Vette says right front is 24 psi.
??
Then 21.
Then 20.
So I ask the guy if he can fix a flat too? ..
..oh heck ya, and he just jams ..pulls a damn 6 inch NAIL out of it ..at this point I am laffin so hard it begins to hurt.
I mean.
Truck gets a tire problem so Vette, bein jealous .. has to have one too.
On the same corner. ROFL!!
So I am thinkin ..ya .. vette ..guy is gonna ream us.
I just know it.
He charged us for the tire and the time to replace it, told us to have a nice day.
Wife pinned him down 'what is the vette repair gonna run?'
I cringed.
He said 'no charge ..that's a damn fine automobile you got there'
If it weren't that I was leanin on the counter I prolly would have fallen over.
I said 'Sometimes..you just meet nice people, thank God you were able to fix 'em for us'
So .. we got back on the hi-way . .cruisin .. stereo ops check GOOD ..into Phoenix runnin the I-10 ..
..past the Black Canyon turn off .. comin up on the 101 ..almost there..
Wife is flashin again?
I take the 43rd ave exit and we pull off into a parkin lot.
Wife looks ..well .. disgusted would be the polite version..
..she gets out..walks to the left front, points.
I am sorry.
I could not help it.
I laughed out loud.. loudly .. it was just too funny.
An even bigger chunk of tire was gone and the steel fuzzies were out in force.
What Are The Odds?
Well ..we drove it to the Discount Tire on 43rd and Glendale and locked it up.
Yanno .. I was thinkin when we got home I would see if the wife was up for a lil cruise in the Vette.
ROFL .. she got one cruisin home from Discount Tire.
Gonna call 'em tomorrow or Monday if they're closed on Sunday.
Will post pix of our new baby when I can.. tired out right now *LOL*
