So I am subscribed to NRA on youtube and saw this video on homepage because it said videos I might like. I guess this new shotgun has already sold out everywhere its available. Kinda cool looking gun. It ejects shells at the bottom instead of the side yet loads like normal shotguns, in the tube.

Browning BPS pump shotguns eject from the bottom, always have. Nothing new there. But it does look neat, nice tactical bullpup configuration, easy to handle in tight spaces. I don't know that it is significantly better than what I have at a fraction of the cost, which is a Mossberg 500 with riot barrel, extended magazine, and Knoxx comp-stock (recoil compensating pistol grip collapsable stock). Similar to below:
My Mossberg is basically identical to the above with the exception of the sights, mine is sans sights as I anticipate never firing at ranges further than 10-15 feet.
If I were going to buy another cool gee-wizz shotgun right now, it would definitely be a Saiga 12.....

Yes, that's right.... 12 guage AK either clip or drum fed. :rock :rock :rock
-
My next SG will probably be a Saiga 12 conversion for sure.
-
looks like the feed mechanism doesn't lock in place once a round is chambered on that thing and having a pistol grip it should...i can only imagine the recoil
reaper, do you know if that saiga has any issues with misfeeds during heavy firing? i haven't kept up with combat shotguns since the 80s and i remember getting to try a combat conversion of a remington semi auto 12 gauge (don't remember the model) in the corps that misfed if you tried to fire it too quickly...even after modifying the ejectors and feed ramp.
-
Dang! How much ammo can that thing hold!? :huh Seriously it just kept coming

My home defence shotgun, bar none the best tactical shotgun on the market Benelli M1 Tactical
(http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac82/mbailey166066/bena2.jpg)
That Saiga 12 looks like a blast (pardon the pun) to shoot
I have a Mossberg 500 that ive had since i was 12yrs old, I still use it every year to hunt, its not pretty or fancy, but in the 28yrs ive owned it, its been one of the most reliable guns ive ever owned. Im sure when the time comes my 10yrold son will pass it to his son, and it will still be as reliable as it was the day I took it out of the box :aok

I heard that you can kill someone if they break into your home and not get in trouble with the law? Is that true? and do you keep it loaded? :lol
-
Laws like that vary from state to state.
In PA yes i can........the thing is, you better be ready to spend a whole lot of money defending yourself if you do. I use to be an assistant instructor at a conceal carry course at the local indoor range and gunshop where i worked, one thing we did was to invite the local DA in to review and teach the laws regarding the taking of a life in self defence for the state of PA. One thing ive learned, nothing is clear cut, and if the DA in your area has an "issue" with gunownership, he can (if he chooses) make your life miserable.
All that said, I live by the motto Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.
To answer your question is it loaded, Break into my house and put the security of my family at risk, and you'll find out.

My grandfather has 4 12 gauges and 2 rifles and an M4 Carbine and a Co2 powered bb gun. He's never had anyone tell him he can't have them or given him any problems.

Arkansas doesn't have Castle Doctrine but then again we really don't need. Taken from the Arkansas General Assembly site.
5-2-620. Use of force to defend persons and property within home.
(a) The right of an individual to defend himself or herself and the life of a person or property in the individual's home against harm, injury, or loss by a person unlawfully entering or attempting to enter or intrude into the home is reaffirmed as a fundamental right to be preserved and promoted as a public policy in this state.
(b) There is a legal presumption that any force or means used to accomplish a purpose described in subsection (a) of this section was exercised in a lawful and necessary manner, unless the presumption is overcome by clear and convincing evidence to the contrary.
(c) The public policy stated in subsection (a) of this section shall be strictly complied with by the court and an appropriate instruction of this public policy shall be given to a jury sitting in trial of criminal charges brought in connection with this public policy.
History..Acts 1981, No. 880, § 1; A.S.A. 1947, § 41-507.1.
God help you if the home you are attempting to burgle has an armed occupant.

Little reliability issue eh? :D
-
I'm not sure of NY's gun laws, but I'm sure since my state is retarded, if a guy breaks in and stabs himself, he can sue me and win.
I've always lived by "It's your word against his" when coming to the defense of my home and family.

Im sure he does, and wont ever have any issues owning them, i was refering to killing someone that breaks into your home and threatens the security of yourself and or your family.

Id rather have a sharp stick for self defence then an Kel Tec. At least the sharp stick wont fail when i need it. Not a slam on Kel Tec owners, i personally dont like them.

Exactly why I love the quote man. :)
I've always loved my 870s personally. Can use the thing as a walking stick, boat oar, and a weapon without cleaning.

This is a good idea for some uses. The manual of arms is a bit weird but can be dealt with through training. It's definitely an interesting concept for some uses and a cool toy but it's practical use is somewhat limited.
I have a safe full of Remington hardware and I wish I could say the ones made today are as good as the ones in the past. It's just not the case and it's unfortunate with the farming out of the work and switching to lower quality components in the name of cost. My 18 year old 11-87 has had 2 issues in that time both were related to wear and took around 18,000 rounds to manifest. The link on the back of the bolt broke and made it so you couldn't open the bolt because the fork slipped out of tube. I replaced the pins and springs at the same time and the total bill came to about $100. The other was on a sporting clay course about 3 months ago when I could only fire one shot. A quick inspection showed that the extractor had broken (plunger and spring were still in place, just the extractor broke) and wasn't doing it's job pulling the spent hulls out of the chamber. Fortunately parts aren't hard to find (nor are donor guns) and I was back in business in short order. My dad's 1100 is over 40 years old and in all that time he's had the extractor fall out. I learned my lesson after that and keep a few spares in the safe so that made me prepared for my extractor problem. He also doesn't subject his gun to the volume or intensity of shooting I do which ranges from trap, skeet, sporting clays, upland, wetland and tactical shooting.
They don't make em like they used to.
If I need an auto loading shotgun today I'd buy Benelli but it's a hard sell to step away from my Remington auto loaders. Pump guns you can't hardly beat an 870 or Mossberg 500 series. Benelli makes some dandy pump guns as well. I'd buy them for their practicality over the Kel Tec even though it's a neat concept.

ain't seen a keltec i ever liked....
I currently use a 870 Express tactical for everything, including hunting. wish i could carry it in the helicopter.

870's all the way! I've been shooting the same ol' Wingmaster since the 80's, and bought an Express for my son a few years back.
I was tempted to purchase a fancier shotgun a few years ago for shooting skeet, but then found out that ol' pump can keep up with all the others on the range.

Yep. They are cheap and you just can't go wrong. Easy to fix, and if you want a new/used one, go to KTP sometimes under 250 bucks.
I hate all that tacticool stuff on shotguns. With all that stuff on a home defense gun, you have a much better chance of breaking something or pressing a wrong button heh. Give me a 870 with a PG stock and 18.5" barrel, that's it.
-
We've got a M1912 in 16ga... it's technically our 'home defense shotgun' I guess, I've never shot it before I don't think... it needs cleaned, bad. Want to go skeet shooting maybe a couple of times this summer

Apparently a cut down 12ga version of this was used in WWI, WWII and Korea... cool stuff

I agree with everything except the PG stock. Real guns have wooden stocks. I'm partial to my full-length barrel too, but that's not a huge deal.

This, with a Leupold scope
I also have a Browning BPS Pump in camo, never even been fired. Now that I think about it, the only long guns I have that are not Brownings are a Remington .22 bolt action for plinking, the Mossberg mentioned in the beginning of the thread, and my Grandfather's old LC Smith double barrell 12 guage shotgun, circa 1900 or so...... old gun, made for black powder shotgun shells. Don't dare fire it, even with light field loads. Damascus steel barrells, exposed "rabbit ear" hammers.... I'll take a pic of it....

Benelli makes a 5-star peice of equipment, no doubt.... I've shot em and they're nice.
But there's nothing like the feel and sound of a Browning Auto 5..... it's like a classic car that can still qualify on the front row of the F1 grid.... :aok

I have a Belgium Browning A5 (FN MFG) that i love......Definately great guns........actually, i think anyone that loves shotguns should consider it manditory to own one :aok
I have quite a few,and have always loved shotguns, and high end rifles.(I have a Parker SXS thats one of my favs, along with a Kreighoff and Beretta O/U) 10+ as a guess, (I didnt work at the gunshop that i mentioned earlier for the money, it was more to "support my habit" :D) It was fun seeing the wife shake her head back and forth everytime an unrecognised guncase came home with me from work. :lol

16ga, but its European, the chambers are 2 1/2" instead of the standard (US) 2 3/4 or 3". Its a neat gun, that little piece you see under the trigger guard is the break open,it swings down (to load), and the tang on the top (on most Dbl BBLs its what opens them) is connected to a rifle sight that flips up about 8" down the BBL, and engages the firing pin for the rifle bbl. . Really some cool engineering for a gun built around 1900.
Image shows the tang that flips up the sight, you can see it (the sight) about 8" down the bbl lying flat.

This is one of my favorites in my collection. It is a 12ga that we found in my Grandfather's basement after he passed away. A little research has caused us to believe that it was probably my Grandfather's father's shotgun, dating from sometime between 1880 and 1895.
I had it inspected by a qualified gunsmith (he made new firing pins for it, one was broken) and bought some low pressure shells for it. I shoot it occaisionally. It's a pleasure to shoot!

I also have an Ithaca Hammerless SxS 12ga, that by the serial number dates to 1906. But I picked it up at a pawn shop for $100 and it doesn't have the family history that the one above has.

Funny you should mention that! When we were going through my Grandfather's basement, we found quite a few old shotguns and rifles. There were five or six that had cracked stocks wrapped with black tape, just like yours. Apparently, the black tape repair was standard operating procedure!
This youth rifle, which we dated to the 1920s and believe was my Grandfathers gun when he was a boy was cracked and wrapped with black tape. I spent a Saturday afternoon repairing it. My 8 year old daughter likes to shoot it now.

Neat, guys, those old double barrells look a lot like my old one I mentioned that was my Grandfather's.... I asked my dad about it, if he had any idea of the age of it, but he had none. My grandfather died very unexpectedly when my dad was 9 and the gun just sat in my grandmother's attic, then our attic, for about 50 years and didn't see daylight more than 2 or 3 times that whole time, until I wound up with it. I'd never been able to find anyone who could tell me much about it, only one gunsmith looked at it a few years ago and cleaned it up a bit, but he couldn't find a serial number of any sort on it, only "LC Smith" on the right side of the lock, and "Hunter Arms Co., Fullton, New York" on the top of the barrell on the rib. His best guess was that the lack of a serial number may have most likely been due to it being a very early or pre-production model of that gun, before they started producung them full-scale.
Kinda glad this thread came up, because it prompted me to do a bit of research it and found an LC Smith website with a ton of information, and found my Grandfather's gun on page 16 of the LC Smith 1910 catalog! Apparently, this specific type was made between the 1890's through 1919, when Damascus steel was no longer used.

Nice guns guys, what ever you do, dont clean them up to much, Patina is everything when it comes to value. Love the hammer guns, and the LC Smith. That plinker u posted Dave was really cool!
I have a couple more SXS that ill post pics of in a bit, one is a Parker that was my wifes grandfathers. It was given to me by him.
When i met my wife, and was invited over to her grandparents for the first time, I was sitting in the living room having a drink, and talking with her grandfather. I saw the shotgun behind the tv earlier that day, and got up the nerve to ask to see it. Her grandfather looked at me and said "that old thing?" "Its sat there for 50years, never got around to putting it away when we moved here" "It was Jodi's (my wife) grandmothers fathers." "go ahead son".I proceeded to go and pick it up and blow the 50yrs of dust off it to take a look at it. Imagine my suprise when i looked at the MFG and found the mark on it that stated PARKER on the side. Come to find out it was a Parker DHE 12ga. I almost fainted and explained to him exactly what he had. The next day i stopped over the house, cleaned it up and gave him a lockable hard case for him to put it in, and stash it under his bed. He let me take it to a high end sxs dealer i know in the area to get it appraised. The dealer valued it somewhere right around $7500.00. Needless to say he kept it in the case from then on, and everytime we were over the house, id check it to make sure it was staying in good order.
He gave it to me as a wedding present the day i married my wife :aok <Looks around for wife........ok coast is clear> Quite honestly I cant choose what made me happier that day :lol :bolt:

Sometimes the stampings are on the under side of the barrels, if you take off the forestock you might find something. If you haven't checked there already, that is.

No , I have not looked under the stock . It been put up so long I had forgot about it until now . Think I will carry it and have it cleaned up if there worth that kind of money . I could never sell it but I could make a place for it on my fireplace in my new home .
