Just purchased n AK-47 from one of my customers. He has also offered me many other gems for far under retail. I picked up this Romanian AK with 2 loaded banana clips, 4 boxes of ammo, extra scope mount, mount with scope, cleaning kit, muzzle conversion kit (allows you to fire both 7.62 x 39 AND 7.62 x 25), and a SKS muzzle flash supressor (Nefari's present) all for 300 dolla. :rock :rock
Stock is natural wood as well (hasn't been painted or sealed). Will try to get pics up soon.
-
ah the ole' AK, one of the most overrated guns ever created. ;)

This thread is useless without pics, although I will see it this weekend ;)
Interesting barrel conversion kit, not quite sure how useful it will be, but it is neat.
PS... Their magazines...not clips :D
-
check out a show on Discovery called "Sons Of Guns". Dem boys do some stuff to those AKs.

I see your Winking emoticon, but I must ask... Overrated in what aspect? You should ask a Vet (From Vietnam to Present day) how overrated it is.

Best show ever. Thousand yard AK. :O

You'll love it Becinhu. I love mine! Just get that wood refinished into something prettier!
(I was told on the forum I originally posted this on that toes were mandatory in every floor shot, lol)

like Nef asked...why?
I must be honest, I completely disagree with ya, The AK is one of the best if not "the best" assault rifle ever made.
I may be biased it is my favorite gun :old:

Ive fired various AK models during my time spent with friends down at fort knox, and i just feel the gun isent anything real special. and it relies too much on its "i never jam" slogan to sell.
I found the m16 to be more accurate, easier to handle, better sights, looks cooler, and wasent as heavy.
idk, i just prefer tha m16, and think the AK is not what everyone makes it out to be. But thats just me a guess. ;)

Really? If I was in combat, and could have just one weapon, I'd pick the Ak-47. I want a weapon that will work every time. Nothing is more useless than a jammed rifle.
-
, muzzle conversion kit (allows you to fire both 7.62 x 39 AND 7.62 x 25),
Chamber insert, maybe?

Ignorance is bliss :rofl
And they're not "banana clips", they're magazines. :D Sweet rifle, congrats :aok

ya but it never jams(mostly true, poor ammo will make it jam).....I have family that was in Vietnam, a lot of the guys dropped there 16's and picked up fallen AK's.
I have owned two AK's, Romanian versions (if my memory serves me correctly) and never have I held a better assault rifle, and I have fired a bunch of them.
in a combat situation you want a gun that works every time...and that is the AK-47 :D
-
I've never cared for the look of the AKs, hence why I bought an AR-15. However, if I had to go fight in some dirt and sand, AK please.

i'm not a big aficionado, but if i recall, the ak was never intended to be accurate. their reasoning, was get as much lead downrange as fast as possible. if you're "sprayin n prayin", you don't need accurate.
it did its job very well, much to the chagrin of many many americans.....and continues to do so to this day. i wouldn't mind owning one.

Hah.. Arfcom or Ak47.net?
Funny, I now expect every picture of a rifle on the floor to show toes.

Ignorance is bliss :rofl
So having a personal opinion on a subject that doesn't match your own opinion makes the other person ignorant?
might want to rethink that logic

Thats the only major thing the AK has goin for it. It's accuracy on full auto is minimal to none. and even with controlled burst you'll be able to hit something. Not much use having a rifle that never jams but also cant hit anything.
IMO: If i was fighting in the desert? sure, give me an AK i guess.
But if i was in an urban enviroment? M16 all the way. :aok
-
Accuracy on Full Auto... :rofl Have you shot a full auto AR? A lot of Army vets I have talked to only trust the AR on three round.
Full Auto is only meant for one thing... suppressive fire. It's funny how the new ARs are all moving to Gas Pistons... Perhaps Kalashnikov had it right?
-
on full auto, all the accuracy you need, is that the lead goes away from you.
-
And for the urban environment aspect...
How often are you going to see a 100+ yard shot in an urban environment... Maybe from rooftop to rooftop but down on the street... house to house... alley to alley... sewer to sewer... Hand me an AK please.
-
The AK-47/AK-74 are probably responsible for more deaths than any other weapon. The things have been an absolute plague to sub-Saharan Africa rendering governments neigh worthless.
It does what it was meant to do very, very well. Perhaps too well.

Can't realistically be separated. It is a tool that enables African resistance movements, valid and invalid, to destabilize the region. There is no moral judgment in that, it is simply a statement of fact.

If it wasn't firearms and explosives, they would use spears and clubs.
Civil unrest, dissent and third world countries go hand in hand.
AK's are sweet rifles. The newer '74's are quite nice.

We can agree to disagree to avoid a rule 11.
That being said, calling the AK overrated because you shot it once and didn't like it is just silly.

excuse me, but unless youve ran your own personal tests instead of going by just what you read on the internet, then you have no ground to be calling someone who has a "retard"

"Good news guys, I just put 30 rounds through an AK-47 and can now speak for it's effectiveness over the past 60 years."

I too will jump on the "30rd magazine" bandwagon. Nothing makes me cringe quicker than a nut shot and someone calling a detachable magazine a "banana clip". :bhead
There is no such thing as a "precision" AK rifle, do not kid yourself. All the attributes that make that rifle what it is lends against pinpoint accuracy. With that being said it can still put round after round into a pie plate at 100 yards if the shooter is trained well enough and is not under stress. Full auto is for the movies, especially with an AKM in 7.62x39 caliber. :D
BTW, the O/P got a good buy. :aok

Well, I work at a sporting goods store and have got the opportunity to shoot all of the guns we carry, especially the ARs and the AK as well as the Romanian Dragonov. I'm no professional, but I've got hands on experience with 10-15 types of AR-10/15s as well as some AKs, SKS', and other guns made by CIA.
Also, I don't need personal tests to disagree with you, but your opinion is just plain dumb.
-
I got to shoot Serenitys AK and it was awesome. There were a couple things I didnt care for, but it was reasonably accurate, went bang everytime, and thats all that matters.
Also, it didnt feel like a piece of cheap platic like most ARs
-
No toes to be seen, but an AK-74 and a Polish PKMS Underfolder AK-47.
Tyrannis, I do believe sometimes you type just to see your thoughts in print, even if they don't make sense. The 74 shown is a very accurate gun. I've owned a number of AR-15s and very much enjoy them. I have two at the moment. My oldest son was the AK fanatic and taught me lots. He started with a Romanian SAR-1 and moved on to an AK-103 and the two shown below. The 74 was his favorite and the most expensive as it is a Krebs Custom built on a Russian receiver.
Keep in mind the 47 was built to be used by folks who basically were told where to go and how to pull the trigger. It's reliable, can get used and abused and keep shooting. That was always the fault with the M-16. The tolerances are so tight, it needs a lot more babying to keep going. Certainly those have been overcome for the most part, but it's also been a lot of years in getting there.
Edited to add: Tupac your comment on most ARs feeling like cheap plastic is as silly as Tyrannis's comments on the 47 :)

lol guppy the kids gotta voice their ever so important opinions. Remeber when you were 16 you knew it all too lol

Dan, we need to hang out and thank you for no toes. I may drive south a few hours to slap Serenity for posting his.
"Good news guys, I just put 30 rounds through an AK-47 and can now speak for it's effectiveness over the past 60 years."
Exactly. Tyrannis, do yourself a favor and go get The Book of the AK-47 Guns and Ammo puts out. It's actually just a magazine they do on occasion but it's very informative and even changed my thinking about the AK. And I've owned one for 17 years.
Tupac, you buy the Book of the AR-15 and get back with us. My AR is far from cheap plastic :aok
-
Also, I don't need personal tests to disagree with you, but your opinion is just plain dumb.
Yes because everyones tastes and personal preference is the same and someone who doesnt prefer something's opinion is "just plain dumb"

I fired the 47, not the 74, and found nothing overly impressive about it, how hard is that for people to comprehend? that MAYBE i dont like the ak47 because it did not meet my personal requirments? someone with a differing opinion, imagine that!
btw what model 74 is that?

im not anything about anything just like calling out people for being silly and u son are being silly. Ive read ur posts time and time again and they are all the same you know everything about everything you've done everything you've been everywhere. lol settle down some boy, relax and think real hard b4 u post something. None of us are impressed with all your worldly knowledge. Be yourself from now on and not what you think we want you to be
P.S. which of your personal requirements did the Ak47 not meet?

DM, ive never once stated that i "know everything about everything", i was just stating the results from my own test of the ak47 and my thoughts on the gun walking away from those tests. I fully understand people have differing opinions on matters. It's why im not dragging this whole topic down into an ak47vsM16 discussion, i merely stated my opinion, as everyone else here has. but it seems that someone who states an opinion that doesn't coincide with everyone else's is shunned by the populace,
I guess i'll just nod my head and say "uh-huh, i agree with you" from now on, since that seems what someone has to do around here to "fit in"

lol you may have never said you know it all but you sure do post a lot about knowing it all. Read your last 15 post and tell me otherwise. Again as you get older well as you mature you will come to learn how much you don't know as opposed to how much you do know

I know only what my own tests have shown me, and im speaking from them.
btw, im 19. Birthday's today ;)

What bothers me is when an ignorant kid hides behind his "opinion" to hide that fact that he's talking out his crack again. You obviously have an overinflated sense of yourself. Are you stupid? I don't know but, what IS obvious is that your ego won't allow you to admit you have no idea what you are talking about.

wow 19 wow sorry I stand corrected 19 you sure as hell do know it all. LMFAO you are a fricken kid. 20 years from now you'll understand what I'm talking about. Till then I'm just wasting my time.
Hey u tested sooo many ak47's u must have a picture or two of you firing one. Do us a favor and post one y don't you or, if not, you are such a fan of the ar then you most definitely have multiple pictures of you lettin loose with one of those so hey post a pic or two of you shooting the ar
-
hmmmmmmmmm..... Guess no pics. Figured you didn't have any but I am a bit disappointed in you because I was really looking forward to your excuse as to why you didn't have any pictures. Oh well another day another disappointment such is life.
perhaps when blowing out your birthday candles you should wish for the ability to tell the truth

And no, i dont have pics, last time i was down at Knox was last summer, and i never thought i'd be questioned over a game forum whether i was telling the truth about firing a specific AR or not,

After reading the thread I"m kinda curious as to what your personal requirements are too - you seem to be avoiding the subject.

i am sure we can all agree it was one of the world's most iconic guns in the 20th century...7.62cal vs us issued 5.56cal... 30 round mag, which at that time during the vietnam war, the standard issue was the 20 rnd mag.. it had a higher recoil than the m16s thats def for sure...this is know... i fired the m16s for 2years (for range) in the singapore armed forces as an GPMG gunner..back in the day.. and i have tried firing the AK47 at many places, including pattaya, vietnam( all tourist ranges) so i can actually tell the diff... both great guns, but for the ak 47, its a bit harder to aim then the m16...thats my just my opinion...
FYI the singapore army has currently upgraded to use the SAR21, singapore made...another great gun.. :aok
-
I fired an AK-47 once, while in Vegas, the only assault rifle I have ever fired. I managed to shoot Saddam with most of my bullets, from the banana thingy, so I guess that makes me an expert and proves that the AK is the most accurate gun ever.
(Joking aside, it was a lot of fun :))

Isn't it clear? He has none. He ran off at the mouth... again... and now his ego won't allow him to back down from his position. He will defend this until we get bored with this thread or in a display of false humility he will change his mind and concede that the AK is as good a weapon as the M16. People like this can't tolerate being wrong nor can they stand not being in the majority because it's just another form of being wrong in their mind.

That's something I love about these boards, it's really hard to talk out your butt without getting called on it. I generally go with the philosophy that there is always someone who is going to know much more about a topic than me, so to speak smartly and think about what I'm putting out there.
This all started with a simple post calling the AK overrated, everyone even gave him a fair chance at defending that statement, he could not, and here we are.

Sorry about the "banana clip" comment. I have been hunting since I was 10 (almost 38 now) and I have always called a removable magazine a "clip". Sorry, but I'm a hillbilly. The AK is a Romanian built GP WASR-10, 1986 model year. Unfortunately the barrel insert wasn't in the bag with the rest of the gear, but I'll get it later when I buy another gun from the man who sold me this one. The wood has not been stained or sealed that I can see. I will probably get the scope back on it tonight so Nef and I can go to the range tomorrow.
On a side note, which should I buy next a Mosin-nagant M44 or M1. Both are well under retail value.

^^^^ This.
However, if a choice must be made, go for the M-1. By the way, is it a Garand or carbine?
-
Wow, this thread blossomed overnight. Perhaps the Bananas will be ripe enough to eat tomorrow :D
As the owner of 3 AKMs & 11 SKS rifles, I guess you can say I am biased. But I will add one thing. I have seen this thread on several different message boards and normally you can spot those who have no clue what they are talking about. That has been accomplished here.
-

Buy the M1 first for sure! Inexpensive Nagants are pretty easy to come by, but cheap M1s are definitely not.
-

When i made the statement, i was merely giving my opinion. i didn't know my opinion would upset the bbs gods as badly as it has.
Ive given my reasons why i dislike it. if those reasons arent good enough for you jay hawk then oh well, that's your problem.

Hell, a couple of times it went bang when we WEREN'T trying to! lol
My $.02 on the AR vs AK, they are two VERY different rifles. Your high-grade AR-15 is VERY accurate, generally ergonomic, and a real shooter's rifle. It has tight tolerances to create this accuracy which also make it picky. Most AR-15s have certain ammo types they like and certain ones that will jam them up. A lot cannot handle steal casings rather than brass. They need to be properly maintained to shoot reliably, and excessive dirt and much greatly increase the risk of catastrophic failure. Your AK has very loose tolerances. It's not terribly accurate, and minute-of-man generally out at 100 yards. It's not built for long-range engagements of precision accuracy. Full-auto is rather silly as the 7.62x39 rounds without any type of buffer will guarantee only the first round has any chance of hitting it's target. It's a cheap rifle. However, I have yet to find a single round that doesn't feel flawlessly. I've only had a handful of FTFs, and that was the first few rounds out of the gun while she was still teething. I know no matter what happens to my WASR-10, when I pick her up and insert a magazine, she will always chamber, and every trigger pull will put a round down range, no matter what brand of ammo I use or where I get it. If I'm shooting at a match and want the best shots possible, or a sniper in the field, where i only have one bullet to make all the difference, I would take an AR-15 every time. But for personal defense, or any combat situation, I would prefer an AK. In the field, especially in a SHTF situation as a civilian where you lack all of the supply lines the military has, you don't know how often you'll be able to clean your weapon, if you'll be able to find lubricants, solvents, etc. There's a good chance you'll just shoot a weapon until it fails. I know an AR will probably fail before the AK. It's not a guarantee, but it's more likely.

And they butchered a M1919 too. :cry

ya can't really lose respect for them doing something like that.
they're paid to do a job. if you ask them to do "xyz", it's not their job to tell you it's wrong, or sacrilege......it's their job to do what you ask them to do, and what they're willing to pay you to do.
that being said....i saw the flamethrower one, and the one with the wounded warrior, whom they built a shotgun equipped atv.....designed to be operated with one hand. they took nothing for either of them. a big <<S>> to those guys at red jacket.

It's fine to not like the gun, in fact there have been a couple of us in this thread (myself included), who have stated that we don't care for the AK. But to say it is the most "overrated gun ever created," as if your single "testing" experience can discredit the field tested and proven worth of the rifle over the last 60 years, is asinine. We didn't jump on you because you don't like the AK, we jumped on you because you aren't able to admit that just because you don't like it, that doesn't mean it's a bad rifle.

and they didnt take a dime. After I saw that I gained alot of respect for those guys (Which they lost when butchering the M1919)
Not saying they aren't good guys or anything, but I am certain that that entire "job" was arranged by the producers of the TV show. I am sure they made plenty of money repairing the flame thrower for the gentleman, even if it didn't come out of his pocket directly.
Personally, the few episodes that I have seen have had them building stupid crap like the M1919 motorcycle or the triple mounted M16/AR15s. I wanted to like the show, because I really enjoy firearms, but it's just another crappy psuedo reality show further infecting the television world.
Just my opinion.

Agreed, I could never get into it.
