Hello,
Me and my big mouth, I just said something I couldn't back up. I was coming home from a robotics competition, and we were trying to get the robot in the car. As we searched for a good place to put it, I said to my engineering design teacher "If anyone has a Jeep Grand Cherokee we could fit the robot in there- it has more trunk space than a Suburban". My teacher said "I want those numbers on my desk on Monday".
So here I am, because you guys know a great deal about cars. In fact, the statement I made came from a Jeep enthusiast on here in a long-forgotten thread. Now I need to get the facts to back up my point, but I couldn't find any way to compare them. Does anyone here know which one has more trunk space, Jeep Grand Cherokee, or Chevrolet Suburban?

I would imagine that those numbers would vary greatly with year. Are all the seats in them? I seem to remember you can remove the back seat of a Chevy Suburban, not sure about the Cherokee.
-

apparantly if its said on the BBS it must hold true everywhere...
not to mention, you could have just googled this.
-
go look at the dealer websites. its all right there.
your dead wrong, the jeeps about 1/2 the capacity of a suburban. smarten up.
-
I just did the research and found the answer. It took all of 5 minutes.
However, I won't divulge the information to you because I feel that it is akin to cheating.
-
So you opened your mouth, spouted out some BS that you didn't know if it was true, got called on your "fact" being BS you didn't know if it was true and now post on an internet board to get the answer?
Good one. You've got a career in comedy as long as you keep your idiocy the subject.

Relax, it's just the internet. :lol

I hope your teacher gets a good laugh out of this. I would.
EDIT: You do know that neither of those vehicles has a "trunk" don't you? Google "Cargo Space".
-
Something I found funny recently...I sold and item...gave the measurements...all sweet...plenty of space.....but.. the opening to the space was another story....did not matter how you looked at it, the hole to get it into the plentiful area of the interior was just not big enough
-
You could just write a paper on the theory of trunk space and the philosophical reasoning of why people think they need it
-
All that really matters is whether or not the body will... Never mind... :bolt:

The conceptualization of a "trunk" was simply man capitulating to the pressures of society to retain materialist ideals and possessions.
-
just say u thought the suburban was the tahoe and u mixed them up... at least then u can be correct. At least im pretty sure my brother-in-law's 09 Grand Cherokee has more than my brothers 03 Yukon (same as Tahoe) when he has the third row in.
-
I have suburban it is WAY bigger than any Jeep Grand Cherokee I have ever seen. Plus you can take out the third row of seats and get even more room. So... You are boned.
-
Peng.
Just bring the teach an apple then put on your cone hat and sit in the corner.
:salute
-
:lol :lol
Are you blind???? :huh
Suburbans are much, much larger then Cherokees. They aren't even the same class of vehicle. Whoever told you that on here was obviously one of the many delusional Jeep fanboys. Nothing against Jeeps, they are fine vehicles, just a high percentage of Jeep owners need an attitude adjustment in my experience.
Besides as someone already pointed out, neither has a trunk. So really I could say that a Toyota Corolla has a bigger trunk.
-
penguin, it's going to depend on what year of suburban or jeep you're talking about. rated cargo space information is available on the web, i found the information on the 2011 1/2 & 3/4 ton suburbans in 90 seconds. google is your friend.
*edited because i pulled a penguin and didn't read everything i should have*
-
:rofl why hasn't anyone who responded thus far pointed out the fact the neither a jeep nor a chevy suburban have "trunks"?
uhmm...look at the replies...its been stated already.

DOH!!! missed jager's edit... :lol :rofl :lol :D i plead :old:

cherokees and suburbans don't have trunks. problem solved.
-
i plead :old:
NO MERCY! you must now hand over your sight, prefferably your eyeballs. we must check them!(maybe replace them...) :P
-
Perhaps that's why I couldn't find anything on them. Update: I looked at the guy's car again, and it happens to be a Yukon XL. In my haste I misjudged it to be a Suburban.

Same thing.
And if you can't tell that it's much bigger than a Cherokee (or that neither has a trunk :lol ), I'd recommend a visit to the ophthalmologist.
-
You should start thinking of a good way to deter the t0pic as soon as it rises, or avoid the situation entirely and never return to the robot club. EVER! :devil
-
did you put thought into this statement? dont mewan to bash you, but the suburban has a much larger "trunk" space.... or course, you could have mentioned something like a Dodge Dakota with a cap, or a ford ranger with a cap, or a chevy S10 with a cap and not had to do research to get "boned" as curry put it. :bolt:
-
I know we aren't talking about a suburban anymore, but I remember the ones I was used to were really 'people movers' and the cargo space in the back was actually quite small. So there probably would be more cargo space in a jeep, it can only move half the people though.

I'll point it out again, the Yukon XL and Suburban are the same thing. One wears a GMC badge and the other a Bowtie, that's all.
In most configurations the Suburban seats 8, and with that I'd still bet the Suburban has more cargo space then a Cherokee seating 5. There are a lot of them around here, and they are quite long so that even with 2 bench seats in back there is lots of cargo area. Now, it you but a third bench seat in back, (which can be done) Then yes, the cargo area is only about 12" behind the third bench, but it can then seat 11.
-
So how did you get the robot TO the competition?

So how did you get the robot TO the competition?
The robot crush, killed and destroyed its way there.
-
I'd just use a truck. :D
-
Which seats were in the suburban?
-
Do like cylinder heads, grab a jeep and fill the space with water, measure how many gallons you used :neener: does your teacher have a suburban?
-
wtf :huh

Treatise on trunk space? :old:
:lol Good one. Interestingly, I'll have another one ready for release this Friday. It's more scholarly article than treatise.

raptordude bumped his head...does it hurt or not? conflict :D

Lets consider that the Suburban has 3rd row...If you can fold down both 2nd and 3rd rows, by sheer length of the vehicle the Suburban would have more trunk space than the cherokee even with the new body style. With the back seat up, the Grand Cherokee (2011) has 38.3 cu ft of storage. With the back seat folded it has 68.3 cu ft of storage space. I sell Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler so I favor my own products, but storage space wise I would give the edge to the Suburban just by total vehicle size.

I can't wait

Even a Tahoe has more room that a Jeep.
Remove rear seats and fold second row.
You only need enough room for your trunk monkey really.

Chevy suburban. We have one. Now if you want trunk space take a look in my Buick Lesabre! I can fit 6 people in the back. Now dont even get me started about how many bodies i can put in there! :devil

you ain't seen the old suburbans than, have ya? front and back ends in different zip codes.......nothing in the way........got a friend has one, we can put 4x8 plywood in there, without moving anything. he doesn't have any of the other seats in it though.

With the rear seat out I can fit 35 sheets of drywall :P

having owned neither, but having been in and worked on both.........i think the suburban wins that match.
that being said......i may be getting an expedition from my car dealer customer....he owes me money, and the price is cheap to begin with.........
-
truth be told, it's not a concern. I just like trolling the "bigger is better" crowd :)

:rofl
i still want that expedition though. i kinda wanna get rid of my trusty old 85 e350, because it's rusting away faster than i can fix the rot now....and it's got well over 300k on the odometer now. the problem i have though, is i have to be able to move either of my car trailers, and the expedition would fill that role....and look a LOT better than the ole e350.

year?

back in highschool 92-96, a friend and i got 20 people in his moms suburban, no 3rd row. :devil
-
year?
98. it's used. a car dealer customer of mine has it. he's supposed to bring it by the shop today. if there's not much wrong with it, i'm gonna hook my enclosed car trailer to it. if it doesn't sag, then it's probably sold.

My 2500 HD has airbags for when I pull the 28' or 22' loaded to the gills.

well, that's gonna be one of the tests before i buy this. it needs to hook up to my enclosed car trailer, without sagging, or it's a no sale. one of my customers uses his 99 to pull a fully loaded trailer that size, with nothing done, it doesn't sag at all.

Some of the higher end Expedidtions came with load leveling suspensions stock and it was an option on the lower models. Easy way to check, turn it on and if it starts to rise up a few inches you are good to go. Kick it into 4x4 low and you get another inch and a half or so too.
