Yes I know this is going to be deleted.
On the Compello map they hid the cv in the mountains where you couldn't even bomb the thing once you found it. Heck you couldn't even see the cv except for it's wake and then you had to fly over the mountains to do that. No excuse for taking advantage of a glitch like that.
Then the other day one of the knight bases was flashing and a friendly was there but the base just kept flashing and flashing. So I head over there with some eggs. When our friendly sees me he turns quickly to spray the gv tearing up the town. He had been playing watch dog for the tank while the tank was killing the town. The next day that same guy was back to his country.
Then tonight I come on and both cv's in the south were lined up almost perfectly with each other and both had been sunk. Apparently near the same time. Some Rook had come over to line them up is my guess.
Then later a friendly ups flies over an enemy cv and says nothing. He then proceeds towards me. A con ups at the base by us and he doesn't engage. I empty all my bombs in my b17 and rtb. The friendly doesn't keep up while the con heads to the base I'm returning to. I think slow plane. Nope after flying 2 sectors he finally catches up even though he was in vis range the whole time. He was in a 190D. A very fast plane. He doesn't engage the con and just lands.
I realize Hitech cannot control everything but it's not worth my 15 bucks to support this kind of behavior.

Wow, I agree Getback. The funny thing is, those people that "switch and do this stuff" are usually the ones placed on a pedestal and admired.

kids and immature adults playing "see what i can do."

I advise you to stop taking Aces High so seriously
It's just a game, and it doesn't really hurt you at all if someone else spends their playtime doing lame stuff

:)

Man that sux. spineless fools pissin me off too, even tho ive never seen anything that low what you mentioned.
-
i must be doing something wrong, i don't spend any time watching for dweebs doing stupid things. :headscratch: should i be paying more attention?

Getback,
Your $15 is important and supports many things, however it doesn't include player behaviour. That's up to us in the community, I think.

This may be true, but it does hurt HTC as a whole if long time players end their subscriptions because of this kind of thing. And to HTC this is more then "just a game". It's their source of income.
-

No I think it is more important you keep spending your time keeping Penguin in line on the BBS. :aok

It's glaring to me.
I'm not the one who takes the game too seriously btw. It's the folks that go to extreme length's to stack the deck that do. It would be similar to playing poker and your opponents get to check your hand before they place their bet.
-
The funny thing is, those people that "switch and do this stuff" are usually the ones placed on a pedestal and admired.
I couldn't agree more. :salute
-
behavior like that stated above is no different than somebody vulching a second account IMO. pathetic.
-
other than the hiding of the cv in the mountains which I agree is lame, on your other points you seem to be drawing conclusions based on very little information.
why would a gv need an enemy "watch dog"? maybe the guy couldn't find the gv at first? who knows.
two sunk cv's? who knows. s happens. maybe a noob general thought 2 cv's going to the same place was so cool, and they got found.
friendly wouldn't engage? maybe he was low on fuel or needed to take a dump. maybe he didn't see the con. who knows.
why would you jump to concluding it is a grand conspiracy of bad gameplay?
-

It has nothing to do with taking the game too seriously.
It makes it harder to PLAY the game while lame stuff like this is going on.
I think the scoring structure has to be changed. Granted they will always be people who will spend more time figuring ways around rules than spending time to learn to PLAY the game, but as it is now the kids looking to pad their scores are taking away from decent game play.

You let the actions of others dictate your level of entertainment?
While I agree that it is a sad event when others use shade accounts, jump sides at the drop of a hat, etc etc, may I suggest you limit your focus on "winning the war" or even "capturing the field", and instead focus more on what you like to do. If that coincides with the actions of a movement then great, you've just contributed towards something. But otherwise, just your game and enjoy yourself. Trust me. ;)
Also, remember that no matter how well you score, how many perk points you earn, or how many kills you land you simply can not put that on a resume'. Most people forget that part. :aok

Concerning the watchdog; How many times have you thought about upping a flashing base but had another mission in mind. Then you see someone is there so you say hey, it's being covered and then head on your way. It's a psychological thing. You think it's being covered and it's not. Further, when I was on my way I saw the supposedly friendly and he never once dove on the tank until he saw me. The base had been flashing for quite some time. Further it was fully deacked. My guess he was directing the guy to the town acks as well. Then add to that the guy covering went back to his country the next day.
Now the CV's, they were almost perfectly parallel to each other, both sunk at the same time and in the middle of the ocean. Not even close to an enemy base. I don't think that is coincidence.
I'm not jumping to anything. I know what I saw.

ok, possibly. but still, there are other possible explanations as well. at worst, you have 2 dorks playing with themselves. It's not the end of the world/game.

don't get me wrong, there is plenty of bad gameplay out there, your examples aren't the best though.

Well it sounds as if the OP is making inference to side switching in order to gain some advantage over the opposing force. If that's the case, then what can be done about it? IIRC, HTC had a real issue about this with a member of the community. I think it involved switching sides in order to find and then "rat out" the cv's or go and sink them himself. Once it was discovered that this was taking place, I think the culprit got hit with a one week ban, or something along those lines. If memory serves, this incident hastened the return of the 12 hour limit on side switching.
So with this being said, how do we address this problem? Do we really have the ability to police our own? Could not the Moderators be given some additional authority to deal with this when it happens, provided they are made aware of it at the time? Or perhaps upping the time limit on side switching to say 24 hours? As a rule, I don't switch sides, but understand why some do, and that any increase in the time limit (is it still 12 hours) will hamper legitimate reasons for doing so. However, I feel this increase may serve as a way to discourage the aforementioned activities subsequent to a possible ban of some time levied against the offender.
Just my 0.2's worth

Wow. Some people have way too much time to play both to do these things (if they were as interpreted), and to let them bother you.

:salute Nutz. True we don't have the ability to police others and that shouldn't be our job anyhow, but I think that if the moderators had more power to take care of this kind of thing in real time we might get somewhere.

Rule # 7
7- Cheating allegations or descriptions are not allowed. Email support@hitechcreations.com to report any issues regarding this. HTC permanently bans anyone caught cheating in Aces High. We take cheating and allegations of cheating very seriously.
If it bothers you take film and send it to HTC. They will see if your assumption is correct. This game can be very frustrating at times. Especially when not achieving an objective you have spent a lot of time on. I've been there.

With all due respect sir, to look the other way and not say anything...is that not condoning this behavior? Surely you don't agree that this the the way to go about things.

Seems to me that you're always going to get this sort of thing when you have "goal-oriented" people playing.
I can see how it would be troubling to other goal-oriented people.
On the other hand, I've noticed that the offenders in these accounts usually are people that even I can shoot down.

I didn't say I condone it. I just can't let it bother me. If I did there's much worse things going on in real life and I don't plan on checking out there either.
I saw two things mentioned; a known bug that lets someone hide a CV in a mountain. For that I'll awat a fix from HT. The second is alleged spying. That's been around since AW.
Lame yes. Earth shattering no.
I get more upset by runners, pickers, HOers, vulchers and ack huggers but I don't let those examples of lame gameplay bother me either. I can always choose to go play on a different part of the map.

Stupid is as stupid does
Anything to win the 'WARZ 25 perks reward'.
What I don't get is that they can obtain 25 perks in 30 minutes flying around shooting at stuff.
Why they think it's worth while is beyond me.

Where there's a will there's a way, not that hard if you think about it. Log in during prime time play for a few hours, switch countries, play for a little while longer then go to bed. Wake up go to work/school by the time you get home it's been 12+ hours, switch back.
The correct way to combat it is to report it to HTC, not bring it to the boards. Film or even a .report may do the trick, I obviously don't know the data they can look at, but I imagine it's quite extensive, outside of 3rd party programs I'm pretty sure they can see exactly what's going on if they have a playerID and time stamp to reference.
-
Why can't people get it through their heads that having a longer time between side switches does nothing to combat spying?
Has nobody else ever heard of the telephone, e-mail, smoke signals and Vent or Teamspeak et al?

I have to admit that there are some people in this game, and I wont mention names, that really are just jerks.
Ive had a few situations, where I've been rtb'n out of ammo, plane banged up, and they have to follow you home to kill you. Lately I've been allowing kills to go home. Actually I damage an enemy plan to the point where they longer a threat, and allow them to rtb. Im getting into the wing wave thing. Maybe lead by example, and it might catch on. Who knows.
I can say this though, its a responsibility of squads out there to teach their members etiquit. Some squads just dont get it.

Problem is some of the "lame stuff" does have a negative impact on the game play. That's the crux of this problem and just dismissing it as "it's just a game" does nothing other than increase your post count.

Melvin, you may be right. But I suspect that there is one way it can be stopped. If an allegation of "gaming the game" is made, sent to and sustained by HTC, then the offender should face a punishment befitting the offense. "Gaming the Game", defined as taking advantage of known or unknown "glitches" or "bugs" in the game, should be handled accordingly. If the allegation of cheating is made and verified, then a ban may be in order. One , two weeks or a permanent ban might be called for. So the emails, Vent, telephone team-speak and smoke signals you talk about wouldn't matter. If someone switches sides in order to gain an advantage, and then exploits that gain, the question then becomes "How do we identify the offense in a timely manner?" and send it to where it needs to go? I don't always fly with my film rolling. Most probably don't. Perhaps if we had a way of notifying a Moderator, (not directly but via a swing out "complaints" board or something akin to this) as soon as we suspected something amiss, we might find a workable solution.
Here in the game as in real life, there ought to be KNOWN consequences for breaking the rules. These should be listed so that everyone is aware of the possible ramifications for their proven involvement in misdeeds. Suffice it to say, anyone knowingly making false claims against another should face similar punishment.

Do we really need to implement more tools to give the paranoid busybodies more to do with the too much time they clearly have on their hands? Film. Report. Go on about your day.

I have been asking via the forums for sometime that HTC do something about cv's being hidden from game play. CV should be enjoyed by all. There is almost no strategic purpose to hide a cv. Let it be used, let it be sunk, let it change hands if the other country owns the base.
It is rediculous that this is happening still. Perhaps a 2-3 sector retreat maximum for cv's from their corresponding bases? This will make cv's go forward.

Well in a nutshell, yeah. I'm not offering the end all solution here, just some suggestions as to ways we might put an end to these transgressions. As stated in my post above, most people in here probably don't fly with their camera's rolling. So to say "Film. Report. Go on about your day" isn't addressing the problem, and hasn't seemed to work with much success. How many times have you witnessed something in-game and wished you had film of it but didn't because your camera wasn't on? There needs to be an option or avenue one has at their disposal for instances where one on views violations occurring and your not filming, that's all I'm saying.

I'm surprised anybody would defend intentionally exploiting a glitch, particularly since that glitch prevents people from playing the game as the designers intended. I'm fairly certain HTC didn't design it so that countries could possess invisible and invincible carriers.

If it's impacting your gameplay so significantly, is it really that hard to toggle the auto-film every sortie checkbox? The tool is there for you to use. What is wrong with it?

Violations... What game are you playing? How many 'transgressions' do you see in a typical evening, or week, or month?
I must be playing in a different arena from some of you guys. Since I've been here, I can count on one hand the number of things I've seen that I thought were 'odd', and nothing I would out and out say is cheating.
On the other hand, I've seen enough whining in game and in forum about perceived cheating, and stuff I've observed that I know for a fact wasn't cheating that was whined about. A 'complaints' tab on the clipboard would do little more than create another source of spam for HTC to look through.
Why can't the busybodies use the tools available to them already? Film would capture pretty much any bad gameplay I can think of.

Apparently HTC's policy is that if you can provide a film or screenshot evidence of someone cheating via glitch exploitation, the offender will be punished. So no problem there.
However I doubt anyone is going to get banned for swapping country-sensitive information over 3rd party applications (or doing other lame things that are allowed by the game code, but don't fit some people's idea of honour)

Dead Man, was this directed toward me? If so, you might want to reread my earlier posts on this subject as I'm not defending any questionable game play. To the contrary, I was simply offering some suggestions as to how perceived infractions should be handled.

Yet it happens every day. What about the guy who knows he's a warper and doesn't care? I don't remember anyone being booted when you could drive inside windmills. It took forever to fix the Jeep killing a tank from the inside bug. I doubt any of that was intentionally designed.
This stuff exists, probably always will to some degree and some people will exploit it. It's just the nature of the beast. Thankfully 99% of the populaion won't.
In response to another post designing an in-game report mechanism? Post it in the bug thread, send HT an e-mail. Eventually it will get fixed. Desining a system to report people for percieved misconduct would only turn out bad. The guy who can't understand that just because he can't see the enemy tank they can still see his, The person who really knows how to handle their plane and pulls off an "impossible" manuever, the guy with E who's plane can't "possible" fly that fast. I hear these whines every time I play in the MA and just shake my head at how uninformed so much of the player base is. All the good players would be gone with a system like that.

Nah, I doubt anyone would be banned for that. That's a clever use of non-game mechanics.
-
Edit: Toned down as advised.
Would be nice if HTC would let us know if reporting CVs that have been abused in the MAs is of any interest to them or not (either for persuing a solution or perpetrator).

Well now, this is a slightly different argument. I wholeheartedly agree that so long as glitches/bugs exist, players will exploit them. This is a competitive game, after all, and some players will engage in questionable activities to gain an advantage; that's human nature. That said, human nature may explain why people exploit, but it doesn't excuse the behavior.

I believe you've missed the point BE. Currently you must have film of any perceived misconduct to send to HT. I suggested a way of addressing and reporting the problem in-game in the event one is not filming. As posted earlier, being able to alert the Moderators might be an option to explore. It may or may not be a bug, but if it is and it's being exploited, wouldn't you want a way to try and deal with it on the spot? As far as the person who can't distinguish between actual game effects and exploitation, hopefully that will come with experience.
As to "All the good players would be gone with a system like that", how so? Please read my earlier posts. You might find I addressed this concern when I wrote "If an allegation is made and VERIFIED, then a ban might be in order".

Oh and BTW wiley, it's not impacting my game-play at all. I'm simply responding to the OP.

Sorry if it came off personal, I was just responding to the idea. I've been online flight simming for almost 5 years, only been here the last 1 1/2. It's SS DD here or in the other ones, or in any online game that has PVP really.

I believe DMGOD was muted for a couple weeks at least for just such an action. Hitech has said reporting the where abouts of a CV group, even if it is hidden away in the corner of the map NOT being used is a punishable offense. DMGOD admitted doing it and took his punishment. Before that happened I happily reported ALL CVs that were hidden by my country and use to lead other players right to them to bomb them. I didn't know it was against the rules, and I can't stand dweebs hiding CVs just for the base count. Now, I keep my mouth closed about the locations, it's a rule.
We are not talking about "cheats" here we are talking about people gaming the game to cut corners. When ever the "island" maps are up I'll bet the NOEs more than double. Why? because it's easier to run NOE along the water than it is through terrain. It's funny to see the horde hit shore line base after shoreline base. And they do it why, because its easier to get in quick and maybe grab the base before anyone can/will defend. A gamers view, win quick and as easy as you can.
From a simmers point of view we load a mission with buffs streams, high fighter cover, maybe some ground support. Flying at altitude warning the enemy that we are coming in the hopes they up to defend.
Gamers complain when they get to a base and are met with a high cap and everyone cries the the mission was busted because of spiez!!!

I used to get all worked up when playing AirWarrior and then Warbirds. When I came to Aces High, I knew it was up to me to change and I did. There is nothing anyone does or can do that upsets me anymore. I suppose it is partly because I'm in no hurry and just fly away and find something else to do. My squaddies will hear on vox from time to time something like "Oh geez, this guy just ______________", from me, while I'm normally giggling as I turn my nose away and motor away.
I found it was me that needed changing, not how the game is played or the game or how others choose to play it. Good thing too, as it is obvious that wanting others to change or demanding that they do is futile.
Flying with VMF-222 does help. Every person in the squad is an adult, acts like one, and adds to my enjoyment. Everyone. That's a big deal to me. One depressed, or angry player in your squad has a tendency to snowball, others join in and it ends up being a losers lounge. xJUGGOx is our CO. Get with him if you are interested in joining. VMF-222 isn't really actively recruiting but the squad continues to grow. It doesn't have to be that squad, find some place you fit, that you like and go there.
If you are responsible for your own happiness, then be happy.

While I don't doubt you can see the CV trail once you find it hidden in the mountain I question anyone really finding it there without some hmmm special help...
Warning: I hide CV's all the time. While never in a mountain, I do enjoy tweaking people.. It's my dime I'll spend it how I like.

I spent hours searching for it. Up and down, up and down, ran out of gas 2x. Hiding a cv is one thing, hiding a cv where there's a glitch is another.
BTW, hiding a cv you got while having uh err a scout help you locate it is another.

All I know is the next time I play someone in Chess, I'm taking half thier pieces. When they whine, I'll inform them it's a game and that theyshouldn't let how I act intefear with thier game.
Or maybe Monopoly.. I'll have my friend take your properties when you turn your back and throw them into the great beyond because it doesn't matter if a piece is removed. I mean hey, we know it's there, isn't that good enough?
Just saying.
:headscratch:

well that analogy does not work because those actions you presented are against the rules of its respective game.
hiding a cv under a mountain is not against the rules. its ridiculous but not against any rule.
stealing pieces in chess is against the rules, "accidentaly" tripping on the table making all pieces fall so you have to start all over again is not against the rules but makes you look like a A hole :D that works better

Sometimes it isnt about being gamey. Its about being bored and trying out stuff to see if it can be done. Then that becomes the game. Whatever the reason, does it really matter?

There are so many things you can do without having to stray outside the confines of the spirit of the sim or good taste.
