Anyone here play the flute? PM me, I got questions :)

No I play the best instrument. The sax. :D

You're thinking of the Trombone...

You're thinking of the Trombone...
I have to say if I played any other instrument it would be the trombone.
-
The first one's the hardest. The rest are just learning the motions... reading the music and learning time is harder than anything else IMHO.
Another fun one if you ever get a chance to learn is Tuba. That instrument is a blast.

Sax > All other instruments
Tenor Sax is best Sax.
(trying to get my hands on one right now)
-
<----points and laughs at teh flute player :rofl
sorry that all the manly instruments were taken when it came time for you to pick yours :neener:
-
In my old days, when I was in the band, I was a trom boner. :old:
-
I play the two handed skin flute. I'm a virtuoso.

Flutes were rather easy, I wanted a challenge, so I became a trom boner. The flute wasn't loud enough to be in the band.

i call BS on the 2 handed part

you mean rhythm don't cha??? godda keep rhythm.....

TC
Rhythm don't me squat when you're playing a song that changes time every couple of measures (3/4 - 4/4 or 7/4 however you want to count it....)
http://youtu.be/JN3Vc0mVDUg
-
cheers back at you.. but regardless of the COUNT or MEASURE... you still got to keep rhythm....... it is the same rhythm = beat ........ , I don't care if you playing Brass, winds, woods or whatever you got to keep rhythm/count..... F it up and the whole song is screwed....
unless there is some new way of doing it that I am clueless about..... but then again I study the guitar/banjo/mandalon..... I don't play no brass
the drums or bass ( or both ) are the ones that "keep rhythm" .... or "keep count".......... if the Drummer or Bass is no good then none of you are........ ( am thinking Tuba for Bass in this scenario, since we talking brass... )
but again, cheers
TC

Keeping time is just another way of saying it. Think of a clock, if it don't keep time it's worthless.
-
Music is math with feeling.
-
Pfft...horn players......they never make rehearsal, they show up 5 minutes before the gig, they want their pay after the first set so they can leave before the last set saying " My lips are bleeding! ".
Only thing worse is a harmonica player. He shows up 20 minutes before the gig and wants his money now, then insists on playing a solo nearly every song and every verse. And as a group harmonica players have the worst sense of rhythm.
And Uptown....they like to called Flautists. :lol

Have a feeling you don't know how to play an instrument, also, most of the flute players I know are men, lol.

No I would say keeping the internal beat is more important. Rhythm is just the way the notes are written on the page. Being able to play on or slightly behind the best for a better feel is extremely hard and take years to develop. You can't keep the rhythm you can only keep the beat. Rhythm != Beat.

LOL
I was hoping that would slide by.

I play guitar, trying to learn blues harp and used to play sax in high school. My pervious post was just a joke as I'm a big Jethro Tull fan. Playing any instrument, whether it be a concert grand or a pair of spoons is cool in my book. :aok
-
TUBA!!!!!!!!!
Also, trombone, trumpet, euphonium, bagpipes, viola, violin, guitar, and I sing.
:rock

You can't keep the rhythm you can only keep the beat. Rhythm != Beat.

we are just looking at it from a different view I guess, same as wilbur & myself were.....
cheers

Let me be more clear "!=" means does not equal. Rhythm and beat are not the same nor will they ever be or have been. Rhythm is not the same as the beat ever.

ok this is Burger King, have it your way :D I am not going to argue the point anymore
edit: but please do show me where "!=" means does not equal! please....... you lost me there......... I let that go right over my head if many others knew the meaning of "!="
edit 2: rhythm = beat , = measure = count or = count = measure..... all in the same to me ....... not counting or disregarding riffs, fills, bridges, etc......
TC

curry1? no reply? its been almost 20 minutes or more since I replied to you with you still online
please, if possible, answer or show me where "!=" means "does not equal"...........
btw I will even let you use google, bing, yahoo answers, ask.com, etc..... if you need to search for it....... let me know if you find it, please! I would be so != grateful !=
heh

Got my flutes yesterday.
I need to know where all these people get cheap extra pair of lungs to play this tube'o'pain. The embouchure alone is hit or miss all day :o
-

Also vuvuzuela.

Bass on the other hand...loud, in bands and is a mans instrument.
Oh and im not talking about the fish.
-
Which one? String, or electric?
I know they're both string, but one requires more skill than the other. ;)

Electric.
BTW, there both the same, if you can play one you can play the other basically.
-
I used to play sax, but I can't read music fast enough to keep up
-

you must be really slow...and i mean reaaaaaaallllllyyyyy slow.

Electric.

One is fretted, the other isn't. One has a bow, the other doesn't.
It's like saying that if you can play the snare drum in a marching band, you can play a drum kit. Sorta, but not really.

Yes, that is true, but you could still play the easy stuff if you know the other.
oh, and heres what i want to be able to do, every time i attempt it, i screw up and it sounds like a dog crapped out a penguin

No for some people its harder than others

You're thinking of the Trombone...
No he's thinking Tenor Sax. :D
-
Having played Sax for over 25 years, and having the whole set, i can tell you this:
Oddballs play the bass sax
to play the soprano you need to be able to talk street and mispronounce every second word.
alto is really for girls.
baritone is for men with lambchop sideburns
and tenor (which is my main instument) helps with the ladies..
as for the flute most pro sax players have one but will not come out of the closete and admit it.
you will never get me to admit it, never, never.
-
Ian Anderson made the flute cool. No debating that.
-
I play the two handed skin flute.
LOL! Steve you need to go to urban dictionary and figure out what it means to "play" said flute. :lol
